What I've learned as I'm in my 60's is to not dress for anyone's approval. I value myself too much to be a slave to fashion trends.

Imagine if a male RUclipsr posted a "10 Things Adult women should NEVER wear" video ☕
If I made that list, my Number 1 would be "If you step on a scale and the first number you see is a 2 ladies, don't wear skin tight clothing". Because we have an epidemic of overweight women out there right now.

Remember guys, this is one woman’s opinion giving fashion advice to men. Its ok to wear what you want as long as you are comfortable. It may not always look good, but it’s how you feel that counts.

Wear what you want. If you think it looks good, no one else's opinion matters. Never dress for others. Fashion is completely subjective, and always changing, what's in today will be out tomorrow, so wearing what makes you feel like yourself is the most important thing.
...and the older you get, the faster the trends seem to change. The classics never really go out of style, so anything beyond that is a useless waste of time & energy after a while.
This really depends on what you're trying to accomplish in life. Unfortunately, with maturity comes wisdom, and with wisdom comes the realization that yes, the way you are perceived by others really does matter, and being poorly or provocatively dressed will invite negative judgement. Negative judgement can be a significant obstacle in life, especially professionally and in dating. There are two subsets of the population who don't need to care how they're dressed -- children and the elderly.
@@thomasbrennan6303the way someone dresses has no say on someone's maturity/ life wisdom. They might be intk different things to you. If they are a metalhead, band tshirts no harm in it. No harm in Tshirts either ffs. What people do in their day job is completely different to how they dress in real life for instance. No need to impress others or comply to trends just because of popularity.
@@mishswb4950 I'm not saying it does. I'm saying that not caring about your personal appearance absolutely invites negative judgement from others, and depending on what you're trying to do in life, that could be an obstacle to getting what you want. If you want to be a metalhead and wear band t-shirts and fill your face with piercings and tattoos, you're certainly allowed to do that. Just familiarize yourself with the local unemployment office. Dressing well is not a trend, it's a timeless social component, and believing it has no bearing on your life is immature wishful thinking. This channel isn't telling people "you have to dress how I tell you to." It's telling people "if you want to dress well, here's how." If you don't want to dress well, by all means, don't.
Love how you bash graphic tees and the show an older celebrity wearing one and it looks great.
I use to be anti Sling but on a trip to Jamaica for a wedding. Every time we went out I was seething with jealously when my cousin had his. The utility of these things is unmatched for travel or on the go activities. They also keep your belongings safe. Ms. Weston is really right regarding branding and holes/rips. If the branding is big and in your face then the manufacturer should be paying you to be their billboard, not the other way around. Cutting holes and rips at the factory in locations that aren't too revealing is a ridiculous fashion trend.

Sling/cross body bags (especially worn in front) are harder for thieves to access or steal compared to bullky bags or totes you mentioned. Also in crowded city streets or mass transit; fannys/slings take less space. As a working professional I wear my boring adult shirts and enjoy wearing my graphic tees at home!

It's a purse.
@@joelglanton6531you know men used to carry around satchels and pouches to carry around their money and belongings just like women do today. They stopped being popular for most people in the cities and in larger towns in the early 1900's.
@@middknightdream1577 They also used to wear tights; are you wearing those with your little bag too? It's a purse.
@@joelglanton6531 Funny you should mention that men wear something similar to tights called thermal underwear from brands like Reebok and under armour. Laugh all you want bet you didn't you know that the special forces soldiers and Military happened to wear nylon leggings under their uniforms to keep warm. Laugh all you want and insult all you want, but you know what the men from 150 to 200 years ago were more manly than most of the men today. Not to mention a lot of the guys in the military happened to carry around a type of satchel that typically carries their gas masks, medics carry satchels with medical supplies in them. You want to say that fanny packs are purses, yet she's telling guys to carry a backpack or an over-the-shoulder bag which actually looks like a purse. You want to know the cool thing about fanny packs and crossbody bags are, it leaves you hands-free unlike the shoulder bag this chick told you to wear instead. Do you consider gym bags to be purses, what about the shoulder bags the mail carriers use to deliver mail, or how about the soldiers of WW2 who lives out of their satchels and hip pouches, I can guarantee you wouldn't go up to one WW2 vet who served overseas and make fun of him for having carried a satchel? And yes I do have thermal underwear, most men do if you don't own a pair that means you haven't spent any time outdoors in the winter.

Yet here you are watching it n commenting on it...
I'm in my 40s (and blessed with genes that make me look late 20s, modesty aside) but am still definitely keeping my band shirts and vintage graphic tees. Otherwise, I agree with pretty much everything else. I'd like to add each and every iteration of yeezys to my most hated pieces of footwear along with them crocs, haha!
Why u dont like yeezy? Some of them look nice for example 700 but people Are hating Becouse they try to be original in their straight/ baggy jeans and dunks

What adult women shouldn't say: "so cringe".
Take a note, Ashley.
So graphic shirts are trash but graphic _socks_ are fine. This is why I say fashion rules are made up.
They are made up.... 100% made up
well i don't think there is something like dressing for you're age or dressing for you're body type. everyone should wear whatever they like and don't care too much about people that tell you what you should or should not do. in the end fashion is something totally individual and should be fun and free and not restricted.
Valid point. But isn't also possible to refine & deepen one own's individual style by considering other opinions & perspectives & options?
Some people who do their own thing are boring-they think they've figured out everything (including everything about style) & no longer need to be curious.
Even if I don't agree with all the points in this thoughtful video, I like how it makes me think better about the choices I make.
Peace.

Now imagine if the roles were reversed “10 things grown women should never wear” bashed and cancelled immediately but since it’s a woman she doesn’t get much repercussion
The white socks thing is ridiculous. There are not tons of sock options for men with full size (13+) feet.
I was looking for this comment, Plus what's the difference between wearing a t-shirt with a bunch of logos and designs on it and wearing socks with a bunch of logos and designs on there? Not to mention the fact if I'm working I don't want to wear an expensive pair of argyle socks or some kind of fancy designs socks with logos all over them just to wreck them at work.
I would argue that if you are trying to be trendy, wear what she tells you. If you are trying to dress to attract women, wear whatever you are comfortable in. Women like men who are comfortable in their own skin. Don't dress to impress anyone but yourself.
None of this is trendy.
The purpose of socks and slides come from wearing basketball shoes. The basketball shoes aren't supposed to be worn off court since it'll destroy the grip, and after a game, you want something comfortable like a slide.
My graphic tee's are not going anywhere.
I agree with about half of this. Never wear socks with sandals, no skinny jeans, no loud designer logos. Most of these are just fine. Mainly it should be dress appropriately. Hanging with your bros, wear tshirts. Going on a date, going to a job interview, dress more formal. Going to the gym, wear the baggy swaets. Also fit is important, some guys just stay skinny their entire life, and the skinny jeans are just right.
what if i want to tho..i dont need other peoples approval of my style how about i do it bc i enjoy it or bc i enjoy comfort.

I'll argue Grapphic T's can work, but it has to be done in a mature way... all the examples here are clearly egregious... (graphic V -neck, oversize Rick & Morty), but I think the right shirts layered with the right seperates can be mature and a bit rock and roll.
Also, monotone socks and sandals are quite runway at the moment... done in a very clean and well proportioned silhouette is perfectly fashion forward and can be at home on a man of any age. (Think colorful standand).
I'm going to take a hard no to this boring, conservative, and uninspired Ken doll aesthetic.
It's basic and common.
There's nothing wrong with graphic tees and they can look better with certain fits than plain clothing.
Ashley's style sense is boring, bland and generic. Also these are her opinions and not those shared by all women.
@@bigvanvader3122 Well, I agree with most things one should not wear, but I'll never let go of my graphic tees. I don't dress to impress for the GF, I dress for da boyz. 😎
Does your GF know you're interested in boys?
Heh. I knew what the takes would be when I clicked on the title out of morbid curiosity. I grew up listening to all this "appearances matter, get with the times, you're too old to wear sneakers" (heard that last one at 22). I had a very fashion-obsessed upbringing (which, fun fact, is common among alcoholic families as a method of control) all under the reasoning of "it makes you more popular and upward-mobile", in other words, "Look how I tell you or you will be a social outcast and lose money". If you object, there's an instant "Would you wear that in a job interview?!"
But spoiler alert: outside of a job interview (we already know to dress up for those), it didn't make a damn bit of difference. I dressed up and "fashionable" for years, even got regular compliments on it, but it didn't make any difference (whereas acquiring skills did) other than making me uncomfortable with myself. Hitting middle age, I feel too old to care about "dressing your age" etc.
Your life is YOURS. Outside of any work requirements and special occasions like weddings and funerals, dress how you want. I like vintage tees and pride myself on how many years they can go. Even more comfortable and aesthetic with age, IMO.
Articles and videos like this wag their finger and try to convince you that fast fashion (which is an environmental bludgeon, btw) is the way to go. It's basically one big ad with judgy opinions (read: not facts, as preferences are a thing). "Invest in pieces" = BUY STUFF! (There's also the internal contradiction of "graphic tees are inexcusable, but ditch your plain socks for patterns that put a smile on your face" - I don't care about socks and again, dig vintage tees, sooo yeah.) And "of course" ripped jeans are bad (agreed on the ones made that way, at least) because they're old. First, old things aren't categorically bad, and second, maybe I prefer a timeless look over this "keep buying to stay fashionable" thing.
WOW. I hate being told what I should NEVER wear to fit in. No matter what i wear someone will have a problem with it or the brand or design of it. I doubt i'll ever grow out of wearing jeans and tee shirts. However I never understood the fascination with skinny jeans, or sandals with white socks thing or sandals and toes. They'll never be in my wardrobe. In my 40's and don't care about dressing to make a statement or being approved by my look. Anyone who likes or doesn't me because of my clothes probably isn't worth knowing.
Context is important. I have band t-shirts. If I'm at an event with likeminded people they may work, I've gotten real phone numbers from women at shows when I wear L7: Smell the Magic.

At least with white, cream, or beige pants, for sure. For darker pants, you have to decide whether you'd rather look childish (graphic socks) or unstylish (white socks).
Both are terrible. It's black or grey socks in the winter and no-show socks in the summer.
I mostly have black or grey socks. Also have white which I wear in the summer mostly. I dont like anything too crazy. Pairing socks together is so tedious I only like to have 3 colors, and a green pair of dress socks is the most "fun" i get.

She's actually right about almost all of it, she's basically saying "stay away from stupid teenage trends like rapper hats or ironic fanny packs and go for timeless functional but considered and tasteful simplicity." I'd add if you really HAVE TO wear something totally off beat, have it be YOUR version of offbeat, not something you've seen in some fashion magazine, and have a reason for doing it (i.e it belonged to my granddad, it's so interesting I always need it around, etc.). This isn't about what other people think, this is about how you SHOULD think about yourself and how you move in the world.

I'm inspired. Birkenstock sandals and slouch sock for the win. lol
My graphic t-shirts don't prove how cool I am, they prove that I have an actual personality lol. Also, only wearing solid color t-shirts is not an example of "men's fashion coming so far", it's an example of the de-evolution of fashion where they want people to look like they were pressed on an assembly line haha.
Good graphic t-shirts are so hard to come by that are well made and have a good design. Most of them look right out of hot topic which, I'm sorry, looks really bad. I would rather wear a minion shirt then that.
@@darkrising8280 Ignoring that a minion shirt would be a graphic t-shirt, what do you mean good shirts are hard to come by? I've got shirts from Walmart that I bought 7, 8yrs ago that haven't even faded, much less look ragged or something. Liquid Blue is available at more "high end" stores (even if online) and they're made great. Only real probably you run into are the graphics that peel and flake after you wash them once, of which you do not have to buy if you so choose. The design thing is a you/preference problem because I've never even been in a hot topic sooooo I wouldn't know lol. Even if so, I'd still rather wear that then I soulless solid colored shirt everyday.
Imagine a man uploading a video telling women what not to wear. Wouldn't be acceptable would it.
Good points, now let me share a tip with you. Cool it with the digital zoom effect. When used to emphasis a point can be effective, but stop using it to "make your video more interesting" -- If you want to break up a static shot, get a second camera. You come across as a kid who threw this together on their dad's iphone.
I'm 37...I don't care what some fashionista "influencer" thinks is cool. There is no situation where I would ever want to impress this vacuous excuse for a human anyway.
Who wants to worry what others think of them? Just be yourself guys, you don't have to listen to someone who has no idea what MENS fashion should look like.
You clicked on a video you knew you likely wouldn't care about and didn't want to extract anything from and now you're complaining. An excellent use of time if I've ever seen it.
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYouyou've copied and pasted this message numerous times here. The woman in the video is not going to shag you, give it up pal 😂😂
@@anandmorris Nice projection. Sorry you'll be spending your Saturday evening alone.
Why wld you be watching this for?
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou 🤣🤣🤣 Your desperation is an embarrassment. Man up. Or are you transitioning?!
Good info and great commentary behind it. I can’t say I disagree with anything you say. Sandals and socks is probably my biggest sin but I normally just do this out of laziness. 😅
Socks with sandals are no worse than wearing a v-neck sweater with basketball shorts like that one picture she showed.
I'll be happy to be buried in my skinny black jeans and band shirts 😅
white socks are out but youre gonna put me in a corduroy flannel like im matthew mcconaughey's weed guy? nah
