The cigarette lighter is a very important accessory in your car so today Im going to show you How to a Fix jeep patriot cigarette lighter by tracking the possible causes to this problem witch are 4 main reasons
-Number 1: it could be a blown fuse
-Number 2: it could be a wiring issue
-Number 3: it could be the socket itself going bad
-Number 4: it could be a bad TIPM
so after some diagnosing I find out that I have a wiring issue and I was able to trace it and address it the best I could
    Tools i used :
    -The tools I used
    -Flat head screwdriver
    -7mm ratchet
    -12 V Test light
    -Multimeter
    -Heat shrink butt connectors
    -Heat shrink tube
    -Electrical heat resistant tape
    Steps
-The very first thing to check, is the device you plagued, in make sure it is working by test it in another car or test a well known device in your cars cigarette lighter.
    - Locate the fuse box then open it and refer to the owners manual of your jeep patriot and/or the electrical diagram of the vehicle to locate the right fuse to the cigarette lighter witch is fuse number 13 in the jeep patriot.
    - Grab your multimeter or your 12V test light hook it to a good ground point on the chassis of the car and make sure you have power on the tow side of the fuse (power in and out) you can always make a visual check on the fuse by pulling it out and see if the thin metal wire inside of it is broken if so the fuse is bad you need to replace it then check if you got power to your device, in my case the fuse is good so I continue to the next step.
-Get access to the cigarette lighter connector to see if it got power by using your multimeter, or your test light, in my case I used the multimeter by putting it to read direct voltage (DC) and back probe the wires, the pink/black wire is the positive and green/black wire is the negative, in the jeep patriot,if there is power you need to see 12V, if so then your cigarette lighter socket is bad and you need to replace it or repair it if it possible, in my case there is no power so I continue to next step, but in this stage you can also check the cigarette lighter socket just withe a continuity test, you put one lead of the multimeter on one pin of the socket and the other one touch it to the middle of it or the side So one pin should make contact withe the middle point of the socket, that's the 12V point and the other pin should make contact with the housing or the ring of the socket and that's the ground.
-If you are here you are left with tow things, a wiring issue or a bad (TIPM) =fuse box on Chrysler products, so to be sure you need to test the output pin of the fuse box so you need to locate the right connector and the right wire in our case it is the connector C8 pin number 20 Pink/Black wire you just need to back probe it with a wire Then use your test light or your multimeter to touch the wire and close the circuit to a good ground, if you have power make sure you are testing the good circuit by removing the fuse and put it back to see the change of state with the fuse you need to have power and without the fuse the power is out if so, then you have a wiring issue witch it is my case so I continue to the next step.
-The strategy I use is not very professional but it works, you can use an Automotive Circuit Tester if you can but for me, i just try trace the wire into the harness and pinch it randomly every few inches with something very pointed like a needle or in my case a push pins, then test it with content using the multimeter until it beeps and like this you can limit the section of the damage and trace it back until you find your break.
-After finding the damaged wire you just need to cut it and put it back together after cleaning it with contact cleaner you can crimp it or solder it then seal it with a heat shrink tube and liquid tape if possible don't forget to test your cigarette lighter and be sure that the job is done correctly, then wrap the whole harness with a good quality heat resistance tape like Tessa automotive tape for example, and you are all set.
