      With less technology in the patriot it is that much less to go wrong. I had a 2007 King Ranch second hand. What a nightmare. If the engine wasn't giving me issues, it was the electrical. My patriot is a stress relief.

      Have front and rear cross members checked. Just had my rear replaced along with radius arms and some suspension parts due to rust. Very expensive. Mine was past the 10 year warranty extension. Not sure what your warranty options would be with a used car.
      Also, replace the PCV valve. It's cheap and easy to do, and it's routine maintenance that's makes a big difference in patriots.

I have had no issues until just recently a control module in tbe steering column nothing that woukd make me hate this jeep. I do a lot of winter driving . It holds the road like a champ. It is quiet . Easy on fuel. 50 liter tank . Yes it is a simple interior but whatever. I was driving a newer Honda Acord. Mom told me to sell it. So I did. I miss all the perks but I am used to this jeep .

    I got my patriot in 2014 used it only had about 30k miles. It's been working fine I'd say I've only had to replace the alternator and that was the biggest fix. My uncle did it for 250$ in parts . Although it always pops up with engine lights because of the ABS and gas cap. It's needed about 3 to 4 new batteries in 10 years regular oil change and the gas mileage gets worse as the car gets older. It leaks water all the time I think the ACs are no good and it's like 750 to replace. I also had a motor regulator go out in my passenger windows and had to pay the guy about 150 to roll it up and check various other issues. It's been very reliable besides small stuff fixes that can be fixed within a day. It's like a upper mid vehicle I would want a sturdier frame less electrical components that are going to break easily anyway.

    I have a 2016 Patriot with FWD, a 2.4l inline 4, and 6 speed manumatic transmission. It's been fairly reliable, but the interior design is weird, and driving a sedan cosplaying as an SUV makes me feel like a poser. I took it off-road (through a very marshy front yard) once, and it was fine.
    The best thing about it is the cargo space. I can get quite a few 8' 2"x4"s, about 4 4"x4"s, or a bunch of 8' PVC pipes. This has been useful numerous times

    Occasionally? After the 12k mile warranty expired on my 2007 Freedom Drive 2 expired, I took more trips to repair shops than to work! Money pit. At 60K miles I'd replaced the control arms two times. Full brake jobs 3 times. Antilock brakes would activate (slam on and off hard) on dry pavement during the summer as I would negotiate a curve at 55MPH without even touching the brake pedals almost causing an accident. No one, including Jeep could fix it. Everything was severely rusted, including my crossmembers, which Jeep told me they wouldn't fix until the car collapsed! I figure I paid $3.40 a mile to drive that car, without including routine maintenance, insurance, oil and gas. In 60k miles I probably paid double for the car in repair costs.

  • @EdgarHammer847
    @EdgarHammer847 8 месяцев назад +1

    The crossmember thing is a big deal. Recently had to have my 2012 patriot rear crossmember, radius arms and rear struts replaced. Very expensive as i was past the 10 year extended warranty. Wish id known to look for that issue sooner.

    We had the alternator replaced,
    The battery has been replaced several times maybe 3 times, we replaced the throttle bottle, replaced the belt twice now.
    We have mystery going on with the ac // no one can seem to figure out the issue. Had. The reservoir and hoses replaced on for the coolant leak.

    I purchased one of the earliest "off road rated" Jeep Patriots in 2007. Very excited. Had wanted a Jeep for decades. New engine design. One of the first vehicles, I think, to specify 5W20. A few months after I bought it, Jeep increased the length of the engine warranty for new purchasers, but not early purchasers like me. I was suspicious. Jeep had narrowly avoided federal fines for having too low a fleet average MPG. They did so, solely with the inclusion of the Patriot, which got much better gas mileage than the other Jeeps in their lineup. I did some investigation, and learned Patriot owners in Europe were told to disregard the 5W20 oil recommendation in the manual to avoid premature engine failure. But US owners were NOT warned. In fact, our oil caps were embossed "5W20". So (IMHO) US owners' vehicles would be sacrificed so Jeep could avoid federal fines. I started asking mechanics to use 5W30, but got a lot of resistance due to the embossing on the cap. So I milled the embossed lettering off the cap. The car turned into a rust bucket before it hit 60K miles. It was a money pit. It was too fragile to keep on smooth paved roads. In fact I NEVER dared to take it on un-paved roads let alone off road. The only thing that didn't fail was the engine, because I used thicker oil. Despite all the repairs, I took a $20k beating on trade. Never again Jeep. Never. My advice? Steer wide of vehicles that specify thin oils for MPG.
