The intake cam is infinitely adjustable.only need an aggressive exhaust cam, because the stock intake valve train can be a trash no fun cam to a full race cam. The valve duration and lift is infinitely adjustable.

Can the vvel system can make tapping noise?
If you do a enging swap do you have to reprogram the vvel system?

good video, is that seal on there from OEM silicon or is it part of a gasket kit? Also Where should the cams be set when you are doing the timing? I've managed to walk in the middle of a job where the previous tech left on bad terms so I have to make sure everything is right when reassembling the engine.

Does the intake cam rotate like a normal cam at all or does the vvel actuator do all the movement of the intake cam?

If a camshaft is off even a little it could destroy the the pistons and more.

Ok so i knew it made the intake valve open further (lift) but does it really change the time that the intake valve stays open? (duration) I'm not being a smart ass im just curious as to how this stuff all works together. I can tell something happens around 5000 rpm and up. Kinda feels like the throttle opens up more. Pretty cool how they make this kind of stuff.

It does vary both, with VVEL and CVTC acting independently on the intake valves.

I believe I have this issue with an Infiniti QX56, just trying to gather information regarding time phasing if the timing chain is ok, during idle, the car has misfires on bank 1 which is the driver side bank. When I scope the signals, it shows the intake cam being retarded by a large margin, about 60 degrees. The VVT sprocket was replaced for that bank and the chain verified and they are good. I was somehow suspecting this VVEL system that is not operational, what are the ways to test them if possible?

I forge my engine and after we started it up, it has an awfull sound in the heads, we think it could be the actuators of the vvl sistem. How can i solve this???????

I've always run Mobil 1 5w30 and my engine has been extremely smooth.

@Dark Days Yes, a higher quality oil will definitely help quiet the VVEL and will also help the engine run a little smoother. Group-V ester-based oils such as Redline and Motul are excellent motor oils but they are very expensive and they aren't ideal for long oil change intervals. Mobil1 0W-40 and Castrol Edge 0W-40 are cheaper and almost as good, they are both true full-synthetic Group-IV that meet the very stringent European specs for VW/Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Porsche. And they also do contain some ester. I'm using Mobil1 0W-40 in my VQ37 with great overall results, I went from Mobil1 5W-30 to the 0W-40 and I noticed my VQ ran smoother & quieter. It's also highly regarded at Bob Is The Oil Guy and has returned some of the best used oil-analysis reports of any oil for VQ37 applications, with some of the lowest overall wear figures, so apparently Mobil1 0W-40 is a great choice for the VQ.
