New piston sound is the right volume. But it does not feel chunky enough. Like it is missing an implication of weight.
Best way to put it! It's a step in the right direction but I think it needs tweaking
true, true
yeah i agree it's too treble-y. like someone just slapped the noise suppression filter on the old sound
it sounds too sleek
which just doesn't fit Minecraft, as most things are rural and the nice things are the exception
a piston shouldn't look like that and sound like plastic
I think it needs like a 'cchh' sort of sound to it
I personally don’t like the new piston sound, but I appreciate the effort to make it less loud and intrusive. It might need some tweaking.
Same! Its definitely a step in the right direction though because yeah I've never liked how loud pistons sound
They needs to do that the same with the sculk shrieker too.
Even the enderman's death sound too.
It matches better with the copper bulb sound, its more satisfying, i don't like it either though.
It sounds like lego bricks
Exactly this ^
2:46
Close your eyes and imagine someone dragging a pile of squids all tied together
holy shit lol
hahahah, that's a perfect description
As a splatoon player, if that's what you think it sounds like, you're probably high.
@@SnoFitzroy Oh darn it, now I’m picturing woomy-ing pistons
Great description
I certainly don't mind the sound being quieter, but it sounds almost closer to a switch being flipped rather than a piston. It sounds rather hollow and doesn't really sound like something that would have the strength to push blocks. I'm not usually someone to blatantly dislike new things that change things I've grown used to, but characteristically the new sound just doesn't fit the block too well imo. Hopefully there are further adjustments done to it in future snapshots
i absolutely loved the old piston sound, it made large machines feel like they have heft and made them sound impressive, this new sound will make these same doors kinda sound like fish in a lake so idk
well i hope mojang will add the recource pack by default which reverses it. like they did with texture rework.
@@igroin_the_cat2264the old sound will probably still exist in the Programmer Art resource pack
Absolutely but they were too loud and too harsh
@@riztizturn down the redstone sound in settings?
@@godzillaridergamer7595 You mean "blocks" sounds, that would also make doors and chests quiet
I don't understand why they didn't just make the old piston sound quieter if it was too loud. I don't like this new sound, it sounds... too _wet_ (I don't really have a better way of describing it) for something that's supposed to sound mechanical
Agree, the only problem is " Too Loud ".
The new one sounds like woody.
"Wet" was the first thing that came to my mind as well.
It kind of sounds like ancient redstone builds when people used fence gates
the old one has an uncanny valley effect if it's just made quieter. Like you should hear it louder but you don't, or like it's farther away
I came to add it sounds wet lok
I think one of the reasons why the the new piston sound is so weird is because it really doesn't sound like it can push 15 blocks. It sounds like it's made out of sticky lego. It sounds weak, especially in comparison to the old sound. It would likely be better if they just lowered the volume of the last sound.
If they have their heart set on a new sound they could probably pitch it down and it'd sound better
the new sound has this high pitched part that immediately made me wince. it also sounds more like interacting with a sticky block than a piston.
new piston sound feels like it's made of lego lol
A PISTON HAS FALLEN INTO THE RIVER IN LEGO CITY
Hello crafty
It that guys!
@@GamingBrenHEY!
@@mosshivenetwork117 BUILD THE NEW RESCUE HELICOPTER!
The new piston sound feels... weaker I guess? It sounds more suited to a dispenser or something like that, and doesn't convey the same power that the old one did
it sounds like wet smacking sounds lmao
your feelings are irrational
@@Fire_AxusThats why they are called feelings lol
Either way I think that it sounds like a very small plastic toy instead of an industrial mechanism
@@Fire_Axus Nothing irrational about it. Large machines shouldn't sound like plastic toys.
@@felipea1399 Don't dismiss feelings as entirely irrational things. Without feelings we are nothing at all.
Yooo, thank you for featuring my door in your video!
I feel like there's definitely a happy medium to be had between the new and old piston sounds. The mechanical clicky noise of the new one is nice but its missing the heft of the old one, which seems like it was design to also simulate the sound of the block being moved in addition to the piston itself moving.
Piston sounds like a tiny click instead of a proper push now, hope it sounds more powerful next week
Yeah, there's definitely a "sliding/pushing" aspect missing from the new sound.
I actually really like this new piston sound, the old didn’t sound good at all to me honestly, but maybe a sliding sliding of the piston sound or maybe they could use that deep keyboard thonking sound with this new sound
Needs to be lower-pitched to sound like it's coming from something beefier.
The old piston sound feels too iconic
The new one sounds a little too much like a trapdoor when used in a door
I would vote just making the old sound quieter
Its a wet slapping sound.
I don't really need to say more than that.
Old textures were iconic as well, but they were changed. Iconic is not a good reason to keep something to being the same.
@@zackrose6261But tbh the old one feels way more minecraft-y
@@angelica-fg4gjthats said about anything when they release it and then everyone immediately goes "oh this is better" im not saying the new sound is better but minecraft-y isnt an argument because the game is constantly changing
@@zackrose6261 Objectively some of them were better like wheat crops. Just because new doesn't always mean bad, doesn't mean new only ever means good.
The piston needs to sound like its sliding, right now it just kinda sounds like it clicks
The new piston sound doesn't give off the mechanical nature of the piston. I feel like they should just re-use the old sound, and maybe make it quieter, less ear bursting.
the new piston sounds like a car blinker
just like the bulb
I like the old piston sound for big machines like big doors. It makes opening them feel weighty and mechanical
the new piston sound when combined in a door like that sounds like a muted version of the lego placing sound when you build something in a lego game LMAO
That witch change is also really good from a standard gameplay perspective, because witches (in my experience) are always somewhat rare to encounter in survival only for them to do nothing, and now killing them offers a real reward.
They really should spawn more
Redstone buff is wild! 4-8 is such a crazy difference
I know a certain hermit with a redstone permit or two who will be pretty happy about this chance.
This is in response to the whining about raid farm nerfs. It is definitely a massive buff to witch drops!
@@PhoenixFlamezz well mojang once again didn't know their game and removed basically all viable access to large amounts of redstone.
Except of course gifting farms that are still faster than
@@nnnik3595 eeeh.. some players going afk four hours and passively generate huge amounts of resources isn't the only thing Mojang have to take into account. Look I enjoy that as well, but thinking it's what the game balancing should revolve around would be pretty damn self centered.
I’m very glad they are buffing witch farms after removing raid farms. I might start preparing a perimeter for one soon :)
new piston sound just, doesn't sound like a piston at all, idk.
*finds reason to complain*
it really doesn't,@@crist8600. but hey, complain to all your hearts content i guess
@@crist8600L comment, let ppl state there opinion ong
It sounds like a jumping slime
its because youre not used to it. if that was the sound from the beginning, youd say the old sound didnt sound like a piston
The new piston sound needs a metallic element kind of like clockwork; I would mention this on their discord but I have little faith that I would be heard over the noise no pun intended.
I really agree with your thoughts on the piston sound. It just feels like it has so much less weight to it :(
true.
1x1 square meter of redstone-powered iron, wood and cobblestone cannot sound like a cardboard.
In my opinion they should just decrease the volume of the old piston sound (or not even, it’s a fine sound) instead of replacing it with something that just sounds…….. not good
I agree. I never had heard of people complaining of the piston sound before (except when others intentionally build noise machines). Feels like more of a PR change to make the game more "inclusive".
Sorry, but I disagree. The old sound is something I heard tons of complaining about. If you haven’t heard complaining, then it’s because we gave up all hope of change. It was far too loud.
@@creeperkafasithe comment about it being for “inclusivity” is a totally unnecessary reach
@@WyattporterIkr not everything is about "oh soft gen z inclusivity"
I personally care a lot about the sound of the piston in redstone contraption.
I deliberately go out of my way to find a pistonless design to some circuits, which often costs a few extra ticks.
If you want to understand my pain, just try and find a pistonless monostable circuit. You have to dig deep for something like that.
Of course I know that people don't care for the loud noice, but for the people that do care it is a welcome idea.
It just has to be fleshed out better. I don't like this sound either. Just make the old noice quieter and I would be happy.
The piston sound should include the sliding sound to convey the parts rubbing against each other as they move
The old piston sound is iconic. Could just make that quieter, and decrease the range that you can hear the sound
I can't believe it, they're finally tweaking the aesthetic side of the old redstone features! However cool that might be... To be totally honest I don't like the new sounds that the pistons make, it sounds more like slimes bouncing around than an actual piston sound. The old one was loud, sure, but great and really gave _weight_ to the piston. They would've been fine just turning its volume down instead of completely overhauling it. Now redstone machines are gonna sound like a bunch of slimes wobbling around, which I guess gives an ironic literal meaning to ''slimestone.''
I would really just like the sound muffler mod that is built into the inventory UI to be vanilla.
It does the exact right things, it's not the sounds themselves that need tweaking imo
new piston sound just, doesn't sound like a piston at all, idk
The new piston sound when fired a lot at once feels like when you're rapidly building something in a lego game
Generally a cubic meter of solid iron when moved has more OOMPH than a tiny 2*4 plastic brick
I think the new piston sound is really cool! However, I think it's a little heavy in the high end frequency. I think if there were mid to low frequencies, it would sound a lot better
The new piston sounds like a spring pen
old piston sound is epic- it represents actual movement, new piston sound sucks in comparison
i dont like my pistons to sound like chunky gravy
2:00 it seems many comments agree with me already, but yea the piston volume is good, the sound almost feels "mushy" and doesn't sound like a piston, it sounds like a door or something like that.
Linear actuators are basically silent in the real world
@@lomiification a couple things with that, first off i think of a minecraft piston more like a solenoid (its instant and only exists fully extended or fully retracted), and those can make a lot of noise depending on the situation
second off, minecraft is a video game with a fantasy medieval/renaissance style, i dont think pistons are meant to be like modern linear actuators, probably more like 1700s steam pistons or something, but that's probably looking to deep into it since its a video game lmao
but tbh regardless of any of that, a minecraft is a video game and punchy sounds make more sense for something as powerful as a piston.
@@lomiification and what? It's videogame.
@@Minty1337 also don't forget a piston can push a solid 1m³ block of gold
What the new piston sound lacks is the mechanical feeling, where it makes you feel it's mechanically adding force and moving the blocks it's moving. This can definitely be achieved with a more silent sound
Yeah, these snapshots aren’t really exciting, but I’m glad we’re getting closer to 1.21!
Hardly, the redstone, piston, and tooltip changes are huge imo
Personally i'd rather not see the update come out yet. I think it would be beneficial for the quality of updates if there was an update every two years instead.
@@omen4s976 1.20 released in june 2023???
@@youtubedoesntlikemyemojiname Thank you for correcting me. I edited the comment to say every two years since i still think giving mojang more time to work on updates wouldn't be a bad idea. Especially thinking about the health of the developers. I think one of the few reasons they want to push updates as frequently as possible is because they want to make more money. I could be wrong but i doubt it would hurt a company this big to only make updates every two years.
@@omen4s976 I wish many in this community shared this sentiment. Unfortunately ppl say "Mojang are lazy" and should be churning out updates more often ...
I hope they revert the piston sound change. Funny enough this sound feels like it would fit better into the beta version of the game and I think the current sound we have is fine, they could just make it quieter in terms of volume not the actual sound.
I actually agree with this, sounds like the old doors
Geez now these crazy raid farms are gonna give like 100k+ redstone dust per hour!
New piston sounds are something between trapdoors and levers/buttons. OG sound will be very nostalgic, and I think they could make new sound closer to old one but quieter.
will there be a resource pack that adds theold piston sounds on vanilla tweaks
I would definitely use it. I hate the new sound.
the new piston sounds more like a cupboard opening and closing
The old piston sound has some skidding grating noises which emphasize the motion, the new one is just a click, like a latch opening or closing. It needs some sustained noise like wood sliding on wood to match the motion.
Thanks for the video 😊
The noise is like suction
i really dislike the new sound, it sounds dirty
Pistons are meant to push (and in the case of sticky pistons, also pull) things. I think the sound needs to have a little oomph to them to convey that sense of force they need to have to do that. I'm not saying it needs to be loud, but this new sound feels more like you're flipping a switch for a light or something
It sounds like a lightswitch with a slightly muffled click
It sounds like the honey sound when theres multiple pistons going off, its also kinda weird to me that a dropper or dispenser is louder than the piston. Its just missing something that was in the original sound, the new one just sounds like 2 wood blocks knocking together or a door opening
tango is gonna be happy about the witch droptable update, you should make sure to mention it to him
Doc seems to have had an early heads up
Yeah... that piston sound is yucky. Now, how else will i get a very industrial background noise for some builds?
I love how the old piston sound is so substantial, like the block is clearly doing a lot of work, pushing really hard. The new sound is kind of slimy/ squishy and doesn't give the same feeling of "OOMPH" when it activates. The sound of an old piston door was so satisfying, but the new one is kind of weak.
The current position sounds like a trapdoor plus a button. It sounds like something being rotated into a slot or toggled. It needs to sound more like something sliding before coming to a heavy stop, then sliding back and locking into place.
The new piston sound sounds like lego pieces being put together imo
The old piston sound is soooo classic, it's sad to see it go. But had it always been this new sound I don't think anyone would have complained. Good change, but maybe a little tweaking is in order.
This new one sounds like a wet slapping.
I'm sure you can figure out the implications from there.
It's like the scene at the start of season 10 when they're spamming the salmon head on the noteblocks.
@@DoughnutDragon no, it doesnt
@@DoughnutDragon Someone get me an end rod and a sheep, I need to test something out
@@TimeTravelingFetus this was 100% the method they used when designing the sound
Naw it’s absolutely dogshit
i think maybe even a "lubricated piston" type when you right click a piston with slime or honey or smth would work, giving players options
I like the new sound, but I agree it needs more of a mechanical sound added onto it. In machines, it does indeed sound “wet”!
I think the piston change is fine when you're using one but they do not sound good in a group, if it was more mechanical and less, goopy? this would be perfect
love how mojang didnt even put in the effort to make a new sound for the piston and just used like a trapdoor sound and the default piston sound at a lower volume.
For a positive thing about the new piston sound, I do really like the little "click" that it has. If it didn't sound as wet, it could make for some extremely satisfying sounding piston doors.
The sound of pistons firing over and over is such an essential Minecraft experience. Whatever the new sound ends up being it’ll have some big shoes to fill
3:24 Missed opportunity for Mojang to make a new skeleton head based on the bogged tbh.
That piston noise could definitely use more tweaking imo
Also something I would suggest for the sound is something that sounds hydraulic
i love the new piston sound ngl.
I think they should add a hydraulic layer to the piston sound. The sound u get from opening the trunk of a car for example
The new piston sounds like Legos getting built to me. I welcome it
I don't like the new sound to the pistons. It sounds really treble-y and like someone just slapped a noise suppression filter on the old sound. I think it should be tweaked and also it has an uncanny valley effect with other redstone sounds (like the dropper failing) but the pistons being silent with the new attenuation distance, like you should hear it but you don't
The new piston sound reminds me of the old door open sound. It sounds more like a button click than anything seriously mechanical. If they could bring back that more industrial feel or maybe add a toggle between the old and new sound in the accessibility settings, that might be a better solution.
The new piston sounds more like a switch/button rather than having any mechanical heft to it.
I'd suspect all that was really needed was to reduce the volume of the current sound by default as if you turn down piston sounds they are usualy less of an issue.
I've got to say: the new piston sound is awful. I preferred the old one a lot more
I think the new piston sound gives an impression of much smoother, more precise piston operation, and I like the way it sounds on that piston door.
Same I like the sound in a piston door, but watching the actual piston move blocks has an uncanny valley effect, especially if you're just a few blocks away and barely hear the noise
It’s not consistent with the other sounds in the game. Take doors for example. Interacting with one creates a yet heavy and intrusive sound, yet somehow now the piston is quieter than it.
It feels a little weird and I think it needs to sound just a little more heavy for the sake of Minecraft’s aesthetic consistency.
They can make the sound in the middle of those 2 for the piston to be less loud but still make u recognized its a piston
I'm a big fan of those new advanced tooltips, makes understanding enchantments way more intuitive
The volume sounds right but should definitely sound different. Honestly a noise reduction is probably all it needs. Maybe a toggle or separate redstone volume slider?
Hope we get a new map for 15 years!
I like it being quieter, but I think the "heft"/"Chunky" issue people are discussing (which I agree with) could be addressed by the piston being pitched down a little towards the end- even going so far as adding a little bass for the *impact*. The pitch-up at the end is what gives it the click/car blinker vibe.
For a more expensive candle extinguisher, the wind charge can also be used.
There's nothing like flicking a lever and hearing a mechanical rumble as your door opens. Don't take that away because some people find it annoying.
"i like a thing so it must stay even if everyone else hates it!"

@@aetheriox463 But 99% of people say they like the change’s purpose, just not the proposed sound. And I agree. I think that the piston sounds have been too loud for too long, and I love that is being addressed! However, redstone machines look heavy, mechanical, made of stone, chunky. So for the same machine to make the sound of a wet door doesn’t make sense. 😅 Doesn’t match and is rather unpleasant. The door opening in the video sounds like someone dragging around squids, not a mechanical door opening.
@@aetheriox463 the sound volume is great, the sound itself is garbage from a toilet.

I like the idea of quieter piston sounds, but this new sound sounds like a load of trapdoors opening & nothing like a piston 😭 definitely needs to be more mechanical instead of a door being opened
I believe the piston sounds should scale on how much blocks it pushes
I love the new sound!
Every little update we get makes Minecraft so much better
so true
A single piston sounds good, a lot of them tho... sound pretty disgusting lol
Giving the new piston sound that initial pushing sound (like the wind up) would fix it. The volume is correct, but giving it that mechanical pushing sound would give it the oompf it needs.
Absolutely great new piston sound! So satisfying.
i actually like the new piston sound
I like the new piston sound, it sounds like a wooden puppet or something. lol
I can see why people don't like it tho. The old one sounds really powerful, like the piston block is pushing with all its might, but the new sound makes it seem like pushing a block requires little effort. Maybe adding a small amount of that old hissing back into the new sound would help. (even though I like the new clackity piston sound)
I agree that the change is a good idea; pistons were always too loud and abrasive and sounded deafening when a lot were used together, but the execution feels incomplete. Sure, they could keep the old sounds but make them quieter, but this is a good opportunity to make something more appealing than the originals. The new piston sounds might sound better if they simply included a “SHff” sound in there to simulate the friction caused by the movement. Currently I’m mostly just hearing a beginning click and an ending click. It doesn’t sound like it’s moving anything, not even its own piston head.

What the fuck have they done they've ruined the fucking piston
Now it sounds like a fucking piston, literally.
Wet slapping sound is just not right man.
It is just a block game, really no need to be like that
Indeed. If they don't revert this I'm just not gonna update. All my builds rely on the current piston sound (I build steam engines so the piston makes the chuffing noise) and this new one sounds like a wet trapdoor.
jesus, the minecraft community are such babies lmao
I may have an idea to keep the classic piston sound but also have a quieter piston, the MUTED PISTON, you craft it the same way as a sticky piston but you can use either piston and replace the slime with wool, that way you have the option of the classic sound and a quiet piston. Hope you find this Xisuma, love your videos, Ive been watching for a few years now.
Lmao the piston door with the new sounds almost sounded like the lego building sound in the lego video games.
my idea for redstone machine noise, was to make it so a block like wool could be placed between the player and the machine to stop noise, like they do with sensors. Probably hard to implement tho
RIP for Old Sound Piston Rest In Peace😢
