Enjoy the move. I am in Leyte now and loving it. I am planning a move in ten years. I want to get away from the major cities, especially in the States. Family, food, and faith are the Filipino way. I lived in Dayton for years in my twenties. I miss Yellow Springs. Go Blue, by the way!
I grew up in metro Dayton. I joined the military. I got married in the PI 2005. Been there 10x. Been around the world now back in metro Cincinnati. Family...brother and sister in law. Brother an invalid. Sister in law a bitter divorce. I love the PI! Never know might retire there I have the $$$
@georgefotiu4287 Leyte is huge, brother. I would recommend traveling to Leyte for a month and drive all over the Island. I, for instance, dislike Tacloban and prefer Ormoc, due to me visiting both cities. The provinces between North Leyte and Ormoc are where I like and feel comfortable.
Thanks for sharing. Laying here in bed watching your story and self talk. As a retired Veteran myself I get it. I live in Clayton and saying the same thing to myself. Best of luck brother!
I'm coming in Mid-July as my Girl is in Dumaguete and taking Korean air chicago to Korea then 2 hours later to Cebu where Derek with (Q Adventures ) has my new motorcycle waiting as I'll spend my first week with him before going to my apt.
Yes, watching the sun rise over Mt Arayat is quite enjoyable. In fact, the mornings, imo, are the best time of the day in the Phils. I am usually not a morning person, but when I visit, I am. Good luck with your adventure.
Just seen your page and subscribed. I plan to come to Mabalacat in December to meet my lady friend there. She works in the pourage house there in Bamban Market. Look forward to following your adventure and move.
WOW LEYTE! I fly there every year to see my fiancée and 16 year old daughter. I have road my motorcycle over every square kilometer in Leyte, especially Southern Leyte. Maasin City is my home there. Maasin City to BayBay, Ormoc, Tacloban, Sogod. I know the island like the back of my hand. I have a hundred friends in my motorcycle club, MBRC, Mixed Big Bike Club. And coincidentally I live in Ohio also. I go back later this year.
Indiana guy who has visited Philippines multiple times and Moving myself to Dumaguete in July after spending a week with my friend Derel (Qadventures) in Mactan Cebu for a week and then joining my Girlfriend via my new Honda ADV 160 all set up going to my new Apt. where my realtor has found a nice place to start. Enjoy as you'll find the first 6 months a roller coaster and concentrate on a select group of friends and have fun on the learning curve. And sounds similar to my story as I lost my Mom and finally after 7 years accepted my Best friend in States married 21 years to a Filipina to join them as he has a house outside Cebu city and go there with them for a month. I rented a Motorcycle and started going to different islands living in different cities to see what i thought of it. Then i met a lady there and decided to see how it would go. Now a couple years later and multiple trips and I am leaving in 50+ days to 24 hour flight chi to Korean 2 hr layover then Cebu. So we'll see how it goes and next one include some sights and sounds there and family /friends or what is happening good and bad
I can't wait to get out of California and retire in the Philippines and get back to the province life. My first wife passed away and they wanted to send flowers to her funeral but I asked if they could make a donation to St. Judes Children's Hospital because to me flowers would be a waste of money but helping children would be much better. The first time I went to the Philippines to meet my present wife I flew out of Baltimore so I know how it feels to fly from the east coast. When you said that you were flying to Atlanta I thought that you were flying Korean Airlines.
good luck bro!!!! i myself am leaving july 18th and my girlfriend asked me to change my flight to go to davao because her parents didnt want her flying to manila by herself so now i have a 28 hour flight.....but ok its worth it to me. im looking forward to going.
You just came across my feed new subscriber here in Southern Luzon. You can order clothes from King Size and they ship to the Philippines just get the expedited delivery or they send it PhilPost. I’m 6’4” myself and need tall sizes also Nike app works in the Philippines.
Good luck brother. We'll be there in 4 weeks. We're sending our son's gaming system in a balikbayan box. It will be there in 3-4 months but that's okay. He'll be too busy reacquainting and exploring with his cousins and friends.
I been going for 10yrs but its the hot weather and the food and the kerioki the garbage burning i can only do 4 to 6 months live in seattle for boating season but good luck bud you will enjoy beaches and your super nice the people are great there
Hello fellow Buckeye! That is definitely one of the biggest things to think about, I'm on blood pressure medicine, thankfully that's the only thing I have to deal with. But medical is still in the back of my mind.
Amazon is new but reaily available as warehouses in Cebu and Manila and Lazzada, Shoppee and Alibaba are their alternatives as Everything is now available but can be 2-10 days for delivery depending on location as the province is nightmare but if in city like me easy breezy
im taking a gaming desktop with a 34 and a 27 inch monitor......shipping mine on LBC takes 3 monthes but thats ok i also have a new 18 inch gaming laptop im taking with me in carry on
I sold all mines before I left AZ 2yrs ago and bought new ones here. It's a little pricier but the difference in shipping more than covers it. My advice to new movers leave all your stuff back home they have everything you need here unless you plan on living in the province. GL

Don't fly through JFK NY. That airport sucks. TSA sucks there. Everything there sucks. Had flight ✈️ through there from Ohio to the Philippines.
