Great video Lilian! I loved how you shined such a positive light on unraveling. In the loc community i think that is the #1 thing that locd heads get discouraged about in the very beginning. But you explained that it is perfectly OK and actually a good thing. You made a great point when you said that the unraveling actually helps it to loc faster. I find this true because if you think about it, if you start your locs with braids it takes a very long time to loc and takes awhile for the pattern to go away because braidlocs are super tight and condensed. They really don't unravel and they don't expand much as the other methods, so it takes awhile for braids to loc up.
Thank you so much Samone. Yes, it is very easy to get discouraged when starter locs unravel but it isn't necessarily a bad thing. Thank you very much for watching. 😘😘🤗🤗

@@LilianOkibe no problem! Thank you!! I was just over here like I know its someone with information about this unraveling situation, it’s only like 3 or 4 of mine that keep coming untwisted but everything you said makes sense, they aren’t coming all the way untwisted but just loose and now that I have watched this, I’m good to chill out now 😂 💛🥰 I will definitely pass this along!
Thank you for reassure me that my braids locs unravel is ok all you are saying I am experiencing actually 3 months locked and all the unraveling hair already locking at the end I have very curly hair and the mini braids unraveled locking fast … using only rose water and oil ❤
I'm glad to know that you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for watching.🤗🤗 If your loc extensions are unraveling, it wasn't installed properly. You should go back to your loctitian to reinforce the point of attachment.♥️♥️♥️
This is awesome and so educational thank you 🙏🏾 All that my starter locs ever do is unravel, I tried coil and twist but after every wash it was like “haha I’m unraveling again 🤪”. I believe my hair is around 3/4 inches long and 4c. After watching your vids and your method I decided to use your method but because my hair is so short and I want them permanent and full at the roots, I’ve loose plat til the ends instead of starting tighter at the root. Do you think this will work? I can send you a photo/video by email/Insta if you wish to see it? Other than all of that - please stay awesome, please stay amazing and thank you for sharing your gifts with us 🙌🏾👏🏾
Thank you so much. 😊😊🤗🤗 Yes it will work. The purpose of starting tighter at the root is just to have that "fresh" retwist look. The tight root eventually loosens as your hair grows out. That's why I say not to braid tight too far down the length of the hair so that the tight root loosens after a few wash days. Otherwise, the tight root will not loosen and it will eventually be thinner than the rest of the loc as the hair grows out and locs. I explain all this to say that you don't need to start tight at the root if you're doing them permanent. That way, you don't have to worry about the possibilities of mistakenly braiding tight too far down the loc. You can still send me a picture if that will reassure you but I'm certain that it'll work. ❤️❤️❤️
Is it normal to see the ends unravel where I had color prior to locking? Thanks for this update. I had comb coils which are very tight. So now I will bypass the combcoil on my upcoming retwist.
You're welcome.🤗 Yes that's possible. That could be a sign that the colour altered your coil pattern so that part has difficulty coiling like the rest of your hair. It will eventually find its way and if it doesn't, you can cut it when your locs form and grow out. ❤️❤️
Thankyou im so hapoy with this video!!!❤ just started my loc journey 11 days ago...the unraveling is real! But im nit gonna give up.i just keep twisting my unraveling locs...what should i put on bottom of them? I dont want product buildup..😊
Hey I have 4c hair and I’ve been loced for 6months now. I’ve gotten 4 retwist the last one I did myself because the two previous retwist unraveled at the root (different locticians) . They’ve unraveled again and I’m not sure what to do🤦🏽♀️. How can I get them to stop unraveling from the root ? I don’t wash my hair unless it’s time for a retwist.
It is normal for retwist to unravel. Generally, retwists do not last longer than 2 weeks except you put it in a style. If you want your retwist to last longer, you can put it in a style like twists or braids or switch to interlocking instead of retwisting. However, doing these will reduce how thick your locs eventually become. If you want thicker locs, it is better to embrace the unraveling. It all depends on what is more important to you and your goals for your locs.❤️❤️❤️
I have soft hair. I dont retwist anymore because i cant stand the oils making my scalp itch and flake. And it runs in my face. I already have oily skin. I have a lot of loose hairs.
Okay I have locs alr .. but I ended up getting starter on the side and on the back the sides are fine but the BACK omg. I got them 2 days ago and they started unraveling what do I do ?

Thank God for the knowledge.🙏🙏🙏 Most white people manually lock their hair with a crotchet needle because their hair takes longer to lock naturally. What they have is instant locs. You shouldn't compare your journey with theirs (or any other person for that matter). Everyone's journey and timetable is different.❤️❤️❤️
