This visual aide was PERFECT. I’m almost 6mo loc’d - and no amount of videos, articles, or advice from others was this clear as to what the budding and maturation process looks like. GO OFF!!!
This video may be 2 years old but here I am happy that I stumbled upon this vid as my son got his starter locs today. I sent him this video so he can learn the “budding process”. Thank you for posting this information along with visuals! Not all heroes wear capes ❤❤
Honestly, that visual aid REALLY helped me. I am 3 months into my journey and I’m budding like crazy. Thank you for this. I just have to practice some patience.
@@MaryK. I thought it was just me. 5 weeks and I can't keep my hands out of my head, lol. I am so loving this journey now that I have some much needed info.
🙌🏽🙌🏽 I'm a visual learner and this was amazing thank you lol I'm 4 months in a few days. My second retwist, she said it was budding but now I see what she means thanks to your visual aid!!
I have a better understanding of the budding process now. I thought budding was the process of my starter locs shrinking and knotting over time from daily moisturizing, and as my hair shrinks it begins to form a matrix of knots internally. I didn’t take into account the interaction of the starter loc with the shed hair building the internal matrix. So thank you
Just discovering you!!! Thank You so much for this!!! I just started my loc journey 6/16/24 and have been reading and watching everything. Nothing and no one explained the bud process like you did in this video!!! This helped me understand. I'm going to trust the process!
Aww thank you. I had no idea this video would blow up the way it did. I’m glad it was helpful. Yes, trust the process and let your locs do their thing.
I started my locs last Sunday on the 11th of April and I kept hearing budding talk but yours is the only video that not only helped me understand it but gave me peace with what to expect from the process. I feel like I just became a whole lot more patient after watching your video, thank you. I’m excited for my hair to begin budding this summer and for me to officially become.a part of the loc community. Peace and love sis 🙌🏾
Btw, you are great at replying back to ALLLL of your subbies comments, questions, and/concerns, THAT truly means a lot! That's rare to find on RUclips. Most of the time, ppl only reply back to 4 or 5 and totally ignore the rest. Thank you for that bcuz we have legit questions and/concerns AND anxiety, when we're starting, wanting to start, and is on our loc journey!
I make it my business to respond to everyone. I hope as the channel grows, I can continue to keep up. I definitely like interacting with everyone. Makes me feel like I’m getting to know you all as well. 🥰 I’ll do my best to answer all questions and I’ll be honest if I don’t know the answer to the question.
I am 5 weeks into the process, got my 1st retwist last week. I have been watching tons of videos. Yours is the most informative and your explanations were so relatable. I see you are still responding to comments. This is the reason why this is the first video I've commented on and subscribed to. Thank you for sharing!
Haha. Yes, this video has aged well and I always try to respond to comments. 🥰 Congratulations on starting your loc journey. Enjoy those initial stages and document your progress because it goes by quickly. 💫
This is by far the best explanation of the Budding process that I have seen as you've explained. Thank you as my hair is budding nicely. 9 months into the journey. ASE!!!!
This has been so helpful. I am a few months into locing my daughters hair and this is my first time. I was starting to think I was doing it wrong cause there is so much frizz. Thank you
Girl you said you not a loctician well I beg to differ. I think you are a loctician. It’s really all about the knowledge and you definitely have it. This is the best video on utube pertaining to locs and budding. I’m as you in my four five month zone and some have loc ed others still completely unravel and I’m starting them again even at this stage. I do have a lot of budding. My budding started in the middle of my locs and some at the end but my roots just wasn’t budding or loc ing. So for me it’s frustrating but I’m hanging in there because once I saw my hair budding I knew then that eventually it will completely bud and loc throughout and your video explained just that. This video is definitely a well needed tutorial for those of us that are beginners trying to figure out what is going on with our hair. I believe this video will encourage a lot just to be patient and keep on going with the journey because everyone’s hair is different. I have started to wear my hair in more protective style to keep it from unraveling until it locs up. It’s a frustrating process for me but I’m being patient and I’m going to hang in there for a year to see how my hair turns out and yes I do my own hair. Thanks again for the knowledgeable, encouraging video. Please keep them coming. I have officially crowned you as a master loctician 🌹🌹
Teach girl, Teach!!! You know you did the thang!!! Seriously, I appreciate the time you took in explaining and the visuals you so elegantly provided. You are correct, I do a lot of researching on this exciting budding process that I too am in. However you were very comprehensive and precise with your ocular presentation.
I’m so glad I found you’re channel..I’m currently 3 days into my journey and I’m sooooo excited🥳🥳 it’s so hard finding ppl who just started but you’re close enough! Thank you! Newly subbie here 😬
Awesomeness!!! Thanks Queen. Congratulations on starting your journey. I promise to keep posting and hopefully be able to keep you encouraged and inspired. 🥰
Thank you! I'm doing research on locs and was unsure if this is a sign the the locs have gone wrong or if its a natural and healthy part of the process. This was super helpful!
I started my locs on February 10, 2023 and in the budding stage. I've been sharing for info on budding locs. Your video was on point. Thank you so much❤
Thank you as well 🥰🥰🥰 enjoy the journey. The budding stage feels like it’s forever but it goes by quickly. I kinda miss when it was a little wild. 😂 Now they are grown and sophisticated. 😂
This visual was the first time I've ever truly understood the locking processing, and I've been watching videos obsessively for over a month lmfao. So dope! I started my journey 2/25/21
Thank you just 2 months in, and I started taking my locs out to when I saw the budding, but I had no idea that was expected... but now is know... thanks to your video
This was one of the best loc journey videos I’ve seen. Thank you for your amazing visual. It was very helpful. I’m one week end and I’m a little bit nervous but I have to remember that everyone’s journey is different. I’m learning to trust the process. 🙏🏿❤️
I will be one month loc'd on July 29thand my hair is budding like crazy. I washed it twice and I believe that helped it bud even faster. At first I was like no way my hair budding this fast but on my second wash I saw the knots/buds when my locs were wet. I was so excited. This video just confirmed I was right. I feel like at this rate im going to be fully loc'd before the year mark
Mine too, I had washed my hair like 6 times first month, n the budding is hella crazy, a good thing is my starter never comes loose, so I don't need to go back 4 a retwist, I'll go back after 4 months.
The visual aid was everything, this helped so much. I thought I was needing a retwist but my roots were still tight and my loctician sent me your vid, thank you so much
You explained the budding process so well. Really great because I'm naturally a visual learner. The loc matrix seems a whole lot more complex than I thought. Great job!😊
This was the perfect video!!!! Just started mine (2 strand twist method) and aside from thoroughly explaining the budding process, the encouragement is always needed so thank you for this WHOLE video
This is the best explanation I’ve heard or read. I’m a linear thinker so visuals, details and processes are my jam. I just had my first shampoo and retwist at 5 weeks... and my first buds! I’m so excited but had no idea how they form. Thank you for this awesome lesson!
Thanks for this video! My inner hair nerd likes your very scientific drawing and your humor as you teach🤓 I think you were having trouble finding a distinct bud/bulge because your loc budding looks far along, with the puffiness taking over most of the length of each loc - I'd say yours are almost "teenagers," the next milestone to watch for! Between my start on May 28 and this week (1st retwist this Sunday, July 7), I already have 1 bud on nearly every loc🎉 - more photos for my Loc Journey Album! So, I'm excited to watch your journey and read everyone's loc experiences - keep "growing," everybody!
Thank you for the compliment 🥰and congratulations on starting your journey. 🌱 Enjoy every stage.I sometimes miss that short loc phase. It went by so fast. They’re about mid back now.
Absolutely great visual and video. You are a fabulous instructor. I'm 4 days into my starter locs and your video has really given me a better understanding about the journey.
Aww thanks so much. Congratulations on starting your journey. 🥰 Take lots of pictures, that starting phase goes by so fast. I sometimes miss my short loc phase.
I don't think I said enough about your hand written illustrated " Loc Hair Journey Step by Step , it was so good and informative BIG THANK YOU , SISTER LADY FOR HELPING ANOTHER SISTER TRYING TO GET IT RIGHT THANKS AGAIN ..... *
This was the most helpful video about budding, and understanding the process. I'm still unclear as to what I am seeing on some of my locs is budding or bunching, but I will give it more time to see, and try to stop smoothing them out lol.
Omg!! This video was THE BEST!! Thank u soooooo much!!! I started my locs Apil 16, ‘22. My hair is long, past my shoulders. I didn’t cut it (part of my spiritual journey). My texture is really silky. My goal is the bohemian locs like Lisa Bonet’s bcuz my texture being like hers. I guess bcus of my texure my budding is a little different or i think it’s different. I started my sons and my daughters locs… i guess I didn’t pay attention other than doing their retwist. I know each journey is different. It is starting to bud though. Thank u for the visual, we all are different but this helped me more than any of the other thousands of videos I’ve watched.
Thank you for this information. My locs are starting to do this. Thanks for affirming that all is well. I am an artist so I really appreciated the illustrations your provided. Spot on. BTW, I really like your make up, especially your blush. Just perfect! I keep trying to get mine just right - thank you for the inspiration! I wear similar colors on my eyes.
Well thank you for your kind words. Yes, got to have the visual for us artistic people. 🥰 I like to keep my makeup simple, but never be afraid to have fun with it.
Now that was informative. I loved the examples, the drawings and the naturalness of your face. Personally I've always thought of Locs as my personal spiritual journey. It's never just been a hair style for me, it's who I AM. I got that same sense from you. Keep it real.
Thank you for this video I'm only 3 months on my journey and I did notice the budding but my hair be shirking up a lot I go once a month get them retwisted this video shole stopped me from washing them they be so soft think I was putting to much oil on my scalp lol I'm still new to this thanks for your video I will be be following you
Haha! I was constantly spraying mine with my homemade leave in conditioner in the beginning and wondering with they were unraveling. It was me. 😂 Keep going. They will firm up. 💪🏽
i have a couple of questions: 1. how many times have you retwisted before the budding actually began? 2. after their fully budded do they have to rebud if you get a retwist? other than that, you have the most detailed video i could find! im one week loc'd and didnt have much info. and as a person with ADHD i couldn't sit still and pay attention to any articles, but this video and the visuals helped a lot! thank you so much😁
Thanks so much for the compliment. 🥰 Honestly my hair was already budding in the middle within the first month. I was shocked and in disbelief. My perimeter took a little longer. I’d say by month 3-4 they were all starting to bud. Once you’re fully budding, you’ll feel the new buds when you retwist, but they will be smoother the more mature your locs become. Hopefully that answers your question completely, but if not just let me know.
I am tremendously grateful that I found this video. My locs are at the same length as yours and they are surely in the budding stage. I can tell they are forming nicely but I was unsure about the frizzy parts. I also want to commend you for helping me see that locs can be styled beautifully at this length. It’s 11pm and I got up out the bed to see if I could duplicate your style and it looks great! I’ve never been a hair person which is why I am now in locs so I am looking forward to trying new styles at every growth stage. Thanks sis. Blessings to you ❤️
Aww your message truly made me smile. I started my channel in hopes of motivating and inspiring others. 🥰 I’m so happy to hear you tried the style and like it, sometimes just a subtle changes makes a big difference. Keep on loving your locs and embracing them at every stage. Blessings to you as well.💞
This is so informative. I have Caucasian hair and I'm 5 weeks in. I didn't realize that the locs bud in both directions. From my root to about half the length of my hair is twisted and bent and the rest of the length is loose hair.
This was so helpful!! Thank you! I’m on month 4, too and my hair has changed so much. Not budded everywhere but has a good amount. You just gained a subscriber!🎉😄
April 10 I started my dread journey I don’t go back to get my done until 3 weeks so end of April I go back I been oil my hair every morning I been enjoying this journey
Girl that visual aid was on point. You should be a teacher.
Thank Ayanna. 🥰 Teaching...maybe later in life. Requires too much patience. Lol
This! I absolutely agree!!
FACTS!
👏🏽👏🏽she won me as a subscriber...👏🏽👏🏽
Excellent

Aww thank you. Budding is definitely my favorite topic when it comes to locs, such an interesting part of the locing experience.

Welcome to the loc family. The first month may test your patience but hang in there and trust the process.
Honestly, that visual aid REALLY helped me. I am 3 months into my journey and I’m budding like crazy. Thank you for this. I just have to practice some patience.
Awe thanks. Glad to hear it helped. The budding phase is so fascinating to me. I found myself looking at and feeling them every darn day.
@@MaryK. I thought it was just me. 5 weeks and I can't keep my hands out of my head, lol. I am so loving this journey now that I have some much needed info.

🥰🥰🥰
ThAnk you, this helps a lot. 1st video after searching for so many where I truly understand the budding process with an accurate visual.

She just stopped me from taking my starter locs out again thank you 😊
🥰🥰🥰
Aww thanks so much. I really appreciate the feedback. Lisa Bonet’s texture and locs are gorgeous, so I’m sure yours will be as well. 🥰🥰🥰
Started my locs 12.21.21 - this is a great explanation of budding. Thanks for the visual!!
Thank you and congratulations on starting your journey. 🥳🥳🥳
Hi I started my locs on 12/23/21 they are budding already too…Keep up the work.
Best video I’ve seen yet on budding 😩 thank you girl 😊
Awww thanks so much. I really appreciate that. 🥰
Thank you this is 1 week journey for my starter loc.
That’s awesome!!! Congratulations on starting your journey. 🥰
Now that was informative. I loved the examples, the drawings and the naturalness of your face.
Personally I've always thought of Locs as my personal spiritual journey. It's never just been a hair style for me, it's who I AM.
I got that same sense from you. Keep it real.
Thanks for your comment. It’s been almost 3yrs now and I definitely agree it’s more than just hair. 😉
I bared with you sis and your visual aid was A+++. Thank you! My hair actually buds from the bottom up.
Haha!!! Thanks for hanging in there. 🥰

Haha! I was constantly spraying mine with my homemade leave in conditioner in the beginning and wondering with they were unraveling. It was me. 😂 Keep going. They will firm up. 💪🏽
This is the best budding video I have watched, and I have watched plenty! Thank you! I’m approaching four months right now.
Thank you ☺️ hope you’re enjoying your journey.

Visual aid saved me. Putting the panic back in the bag😊
Aww glad I could help. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for the visual explanation! 3 months in and so excited for this journey. Glad I found your channel.
Aww thanks Tonesha. I’m sure your locs are already looking good. 3 months in is a fun stage. They change so fast. 💨
i have a couple of questions:
1. how many times have you retwisted before the budding actually began?
2. after their fully budded do they have to rebud if you get a retwist?
other than that, you have the most detailed video i could find! im one week loc'd and didnt have much info. and as a person with ADHD i couldn't sit still and pay attention to any articles, but this video and the visuals helped a lot! thank you so much😁
Thanks so much for the compliment.
@@MaryK. that helps so much Tysm😁
This is the video that I needed. Thank you for that visual it was on point. Just started my loc journey 5 weeks ago
Awesomeness! Congrats on starting your journey, glad I could be of assistance. I'm originally from Georgia by the way. 😂
Congratulations on starting your journey. I’m glad this video was helpful. 🥰
This was so helpful!! Thank you! I’m on month 4, too and my hair has changed so much. Not budded everywhere but has a good amount. You just gained a subscriber!🎉😄
Glad to hear your journey is going well. Mine were roughly the same around the 4 month period. 🥰
I’m 2 months in my loc Journey, thank you so much for the Visuals 😁
