    🤓 A little about my eyesight: 🤓
    I have had glasses for astigmatism since I was 7 years old, but I only needed them for specific circumstances, like reading blackboards or night driving (not when I was 7, obviously).
    At the age of 22 I landed an office job, and with my lovely new money I bought a smart phone. 6 months later, I had myopia (also known as short sightedness or near sightedness) and had to wear glasses full-time.
    My prescription has been going up since then, and I have been freaking out as I sit back and watch my eyesight deteriorate, feeling helpless and scared.
    I was up to -3 in my left eye, and -2.5 in my right eye when I discovered Jake Steiner and the EndMyopia method.
    I am still only a few months in, but already I am seeing at almost -2.00 in my left eye -1.75 in my right eye. Small changes, but any improvement is amazing when my eyes have only been deteriorating for the last 10 years.
    I am loving knowing more about eyesight and how eyes function. It's fascinating, and learning so much feels empowering. I love that I no longer feel helpless about my vision. I have also quit my smartphone so I could get over my screen addiction. I even bought a Nokia to get me out of temptation's way! Since doing this, I have been making progress with my vision, but also have regained so much of my life and time and perspective, so this vision journey is definitely having positive knock-on effects in my life as a whole.

    Hi Gemily,
    SUBJECT: Your Goal Settings.
    I do advocate personal prevention (with some recovery).
    The "problem", I have, is perhaps your problem.
    It is making "excessive claims", of recovery, and having people "expect", 20/20, almost instantly.
    Then - they see no results at all - and quit.
    (I can hardly blame them.)
    With that in mind.
    1) Do not demand 20/20.
    2) Aim to PASS the required DMV standard of 20/70, one eye, 20/40, the other eye. (Almost all eyes have this normal difference.)
    3) Do this checking on you Snellen, with bright light on it.
    4) This must be long term on your part.
    5) This is scientific objective verification.
    6) You do not need or want "medical verification".
    They have no interest at all.
    That is how I would face this plateau.
    Achieve a reasonable objective measurement, and you will succeed.
    Demanding mythical 20/20, and you will fail.
    For me, it is taking all responsibility, or no responsibility.

    Winter is rough for vision improvement, and not necessarily just because of the cold, less natural light over all is a big factor. But getting out more should help, at least it isn't really that cold there 😊 But a month is so not a plateau! I know it is so frustrating when things slow down but hang in, that non dominate eye will catch up, keep on keeping on girl. Great plan over all, nothing like a rut to make us reapply ourselves. You really should look into the humidifier too ☺

    I have been there too and managed to equalise so keep going! In my case I did have blur challenge in both eyes at the same time as I had already stopped glasses. I think patching can be more useful while moving yourself and your eyes so your brain needs to actively detect and recalculate distances. My left eye is still a bit sensitive to ciliary spasm but overall my vision is equalised. The whole process took several months and was unstable, ranging from blur to intermittent blur comparing to the right eye, then some double vision as eyes and brain learnt to converge for a single clearer image. I found that exercises, done separately for each eye (active eye opened and the other one closed) were helpful too, specially in the morning, before any screen exposure. Good luck, I love your channel! 😊

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      Thank you so much, Irene. That makes sense that patching while moving would be more beneficial. I am encouraged to hear that you managed. I am trying to incorporate more use of my left eye while my right eye has increased blur. I think that will help me too. Thank you so much for your comment.

    I remeber Jake saying the 1st diopter is quite quick to come down, I think it was something like "1st diopter, 6 months. The rest, 1 year 1 diopter" on average.
    So it makes sense you have reached a plateau. You are doing SO WELL!! Love keeping up :)

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Thanks so much. Yeah, I was thinking the first diopter could be quite quick because of ciliary spasm and over correction - even as quickly as the first 6 weeks for some - but because I didn't seem to be at all overcorrected when I started this (so much phone use at full correction over the year before I started EM took care of that!), my initial drop was just the modest 0.25 steps, so I didn't think that speedy start was relevant to me. But maybe you are right - maybe that is all part of the change in improvement rate...

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      I only have -0.25 cyl. I will be getting rid of it when I reach my 7th pair of normalised. Just focus on sph to begin with. I made a video about reducing astigmatism and I put a bunch of links in the description that will be useful for anyone who needs to address cyl.

      Only 1 thing at 1 time, somewhere Jake said it. The eyes cant adjust to too many changes at same time. First sphere, later astigmatism. I think better improve sphere until halfway to 20/20 maybe then start improving astigmatism. Jake recommends drop Astigmatism if it is not higher than 1.0 diopter. I have no cylinder corrections at all on my glasses, which I bought for improving, because I want to make sphere reductions first. Then I noticed, ok better try equalize first before making sphere reductions in both eyes. So I am still at the 1. step: equalizing. thank god this works, because when I tried sphere reductions in both eyes only my dominant eye did the work, I think I would have increased the ratio.

      The Optometrist - never had your best interests at heart.
      He has his finanical interest at heart.
      It is a profoundly tragic situation. Some of them know that first minus lens they give you, is certain to take your distant vision down - rapidly and permanently.
      But they give it to you anyway.
      Well business is business.
      But they have no empathy for you.

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      Considering optometrists check under less than ideal conditions, and tend to over prescribe anyway, you can always deduct some of that prescription, but it is discouraging to have them try to get you to take a higher correction. That is why I haven't been to the optometrist at all since starting EM - I will go, but I need to get some good progress under my belt first. I don't need that discouragement in my head just now. Hi Gemily,
    So you were OK, until you got your Cell Phone, and a strong minus to "fix", giving you better than 20/20.
    A minus lens, is always a killer of vision.
    I think we should be issued a plus lens, at that point, to keep us from going down, because of that minus lens.
    You are a Brave Soul to continue working yourself out of it.
    Can you keep that minus off your face, at least when making these videos. You do not need them!

    how can i figar out why my maiopia cause ...is it for corneal problem or for ciliary mussel...does endmiopia fix both problem...?how

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад

      If you don't know the cause of your myopia, then it is likely that it is basically axial lengthening, as that is the most common cause. And if you wear glasses for close up, or just do a lot of close up, then ciliary spasm is very likely involved too. If your cornea is shaped in such a way that it focuses the light in front of the retina, then axial shortening would assist with that too. So, I haven't had experience of this, but my guess would be that it should still work fine. If this is your case, I could only say give it a go and find out - a lot of info is out there for free, so the worst that can happen is you don't progress. 🤷‍♀️

  • @alexbean5876

    Hi Gemily ! What high myopia do you consider that might lead to Retina detachment? And is it rare for high myopic people to have retina detachment ?

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +2

      There is no specific cut off point for "above this number it is very likely, below it is unlikely". To be honest, it is unlikely for anyone. Retinal detachment is pretty rare, even for high myopes, it is just even more rare for people who aren't high myopes. The more myopia, the higher the chances, but even for high myopes, the chances are pretty small indeed. So no need to stress - the risk is still low even with high myopia.

      I don't know for sure but there could be a number of reasons. Here are some possibilities:
      1) Get enough distance time in to make up for it
      2) Naturally know how to active focus so don't have to learn it
      3) Are not as genetically vulnerable to it (e.g. eye ball less ready to respond to stimulus by changes in axial length)
      4) Less stressed so their body knows how to relax (inc. ciliary muscle)

    You gotta account for ocular dominance. Everyone has a dominant and a non dominant eye (with a difference of a quarter diopter), even those who don't wear glasses. Jake has some videos on the topic. I don't think you need to equalise.

      You are right about ocular dominance being a thing to take into consideration. It isn't the gap that is the red flag for me, but the fact that my brain was processing a clear image, while my left eye was actually in a lot of blur, and my left eye cms were also going down. It seemed my left eye checked out of the process. For this, I need to make sure I wait for it. If it were just always a little bit less clear, never reaching full clarity at the level of my right eye (as has been the case so far) I would be more likely to think it was just a case of ocular dominance and not worry, as you suggest. Thanks for your advice, and I will keep it in mind as I work on this.

    Now I have to respond to this video, because this is what I am doing now. I want to equalize my eyes first. My left eye is like -4.5 and my right eye like -4.0. Now this is what I do: I used glasses, which give only the left eye the chance to do active focus, the right eye should stay blurry, so it won't dominate. I look on my 75" TV which is my computer screen in 2.5m distance with these glasses: (1) L-4.00 R-3.50 (2) L-3.75 R-2.75 (3) L-3.50 R-2.25 (4) L -3.25 R-2 (5) L-3 R-1.5 That way only my left eye can do active focus and it is the only one, which will improve. My right eye clears up so easily it really needs at least 1.0 lower glasses than the left eye, so it can't dominate. For me this works. And I use 2 fullsprectrum lights which shine on me while looking at the TV, producing 1000 lux. This all forces me to do active focus all the time, because I need to read things on my TV. I think this is the best way and for me it worked already since with 4 glasses. I work now on the jump to the glasses nr5. No measurements needed. I know my left eye will be better when I can read with the glasses nr5. I think if you do it the way you described and Jake says it takes time, this is because your better eye does most of the time the active focus work and the worse eye works only very little, that slows down the process. And my recommendation is NEVER PATCH! This gives only headaches, it is not naturally. Better give the stronger eye a too weak lens. The brain will accept it and use the eye, you want to improve, and which has the edge of blur. But you should use these special unbalanced glasses only for that active focus distance and setup, Otherwise is will be very uncomfortable to look through strong unbalanced glasses. When I look at my TV I forget quickly about the unbalanced glasses, they don't distrub me. My left eye is doing the active focus, my right eye gets light. It works for me and I think it is much faster. But if the glasses are too strong unbalanced like L-3 and R0 this gets uncomfortable too. The eye with the weaker lens needs still orientation to feel comfortable. It needs orientation but not the risk of trying to clear up, because then it would dominate and do the work. So a test lens kit is a must have to figure out the right unbalanced glasses.

      Hey, thanks for the really detailed comment. That's really interesting. I feel like the effect would not be so different to when I put a piece of plastic (which I have just cut out from a plastic sleeve from a folder) over my stronger eye. The result is blur I can't clear, but I can still see light and make out vague shapes. This clear plastic idea is only something I have started doing recently (I worked it out when I wanted to patch for my walks outside, so hanging my glasses cloth over my stronger eye as I do for close up wouldn't work for that ;) ). So your weaker eye is responding well to your approach - how is your stronger eye going? Are you managing to equalise at all?

    • @spirittouchrecords2785

      @@GemilyMez I also tried that with some transparent foil which creates blur, but it is too much blur and the eye loses the orientation. It is uncomfortable. The strong eye really needs a good lens, but so weak, that it cant clear up the blur. Everything what gives too much blur makes it very uncomfortable and I would highly recommend not to do it then. The trick is the brain has to think your worse eye is the one which is stronger and the stronger eye is the one which is weaker. Nothing else. Only light with too much blur for the stronger eye will prevent getting headaches but it is too uncomfortable for the brain to accept such big unbalance. So saving money for extra unbalanced glasses by covering the eye with blurry material is really difficult. When I started my left eye could read only blurry with -4.0, but now I am at -3.25 (reading with quite good clarity after some active focus time) and working towards -3.0 It obviously improved with this method and quite fast. I feel when doing it intensively it needs only about 2 weeks to adapt (right now I block my process with too much smartphone use I think). The stronger eye seems to improve a little bit automatically, I dont really measure it, I just wait for the moment when my left eye should get stronger than my right eye, then I would have (over)-fixed the unbalance. I discovered, better give the stronger eye a "safe lower" lens, a 0.75 gap between L and R is not enough it will still take over the control of clearing up. So my last glasses have a gap of 1.5 That way I can be sure the strong eye will not be able to clear up. I once had to send glasses back because I noticed 0.75 gap was too low. The strong eye took control over when clearing up, so the glasses were worthless to work with. With test lens kit I found out a 1.0 gap should be minimum for me. But with the fear of my strong eye could take control over I increased the gap to 1.5 on my last glasses. It is really unbelieveable the strong eye can clear up text with 1.0 lower glasses than needed, but the weak eye can only make 0.25 clearing up steps. So thats my way to force the weak eye to do the active focus all the time. Basically I use only the weak eye to read, the strong eye is satisfied with a lower lens, because it gets light and enough sharpness to follow the movements of the weak eye(orientation), the brain is accepting it like it really could be that situation that my weak eye is the stronger than my strong eye. It is still a bit confusing. My weak eye is not only weaker in sphere but has also more astigmatism. So I think thats why I have in fact maybe a bigger gap than 0.5 when its about readability. Maybe I have a 1.0 gap. And thats why I still could not finish the equalizing although making an improvement of already 0.75 with the left eye. Now my next concern is, later I would try to fix my astigmatism and realize damn I improved more sphere than I should. In fact I should improve 0.5 sphere unbalance and 0.5 astigmatism. But I never tried to work on astigmatism improvement. First I want to have equalized eyes for reading. I will take care of astigmatism later.

      @@spirittouchrecords2785 Fascinating. So you have Differentials, Normalised, AND this third type of glasses to undercorrect your stronger eye? Glasses can be bought pretty cheap - I can afford to give that a try if that is what you are saying. Thanks for all your insight.

      @@GemilyMez Well, privately I replaced my computer screen with the 75" TV to avoid close up screens completely, so I dont really need differentials. I also use a program called Vysor to mirror the screen of my smartphone through my computer to the desktop and on my TV. I bought 3 pairs of expensive good looking glasses with good frames with the diopters -2.0, -3.0 and -4.25 to have good glasses for every day situation and to prevent strain/hyperopic defocus. For my eye improvement I use only the unbalanced glasses with my TV. Thats all. They are like my normalized glasses. I searched for cheap glasses with anti-reflective coating and the cheapest ones cost about 20€ incl shipping. Nowhere lower than that.

      I have to add: If you do that, of course you will have a strange eye feeling after some active focus time when you make a pause. When I dont look on the TV I always put the unbalanced glasses off. You will feel the positive strain which happens to the weaker eye and if you measure it after some active focus time you will notice it improved thanks to the active focus. But still while doing this there will always be a weird feeling with the eyes, because only the left eye gets the strain to improve. I think thats the price for improving it faster. If you do it like Jake says, it will take longer for the weaker eye, because it is more inefficient for the weaker eye, most of the time only the stronger eye will do the clear-up, but it is of course more comfortable. Well for me it is better going faster through the weird feeling hell, than waiting much longer. I know the next day the weird eye feeling is gone because of the sleep reset but I worked a lot more on my weak eye and it wont take so long to equalize. Dont look with the unbalanced glasses anywhere else than on the meant text at the right distance (in my case my TV), because it feels very weird. 1.0 gap is a lot in general, but for reading text it is for me the right minimum gap. A few months ago I had no glasses at all, I was changing from contact lenses to glasses. And my eyes were dry. To give them a break I started using contacts each day only on one eye. That was even more crazy feeling. If you wear on one eye -4. and on the other one 0, the 0 eye has no orientation. I always had to blink to make sure both eyes look at the same direction, I did not want other people to notice that my 0 eye was always moving to a neutral position, because it could not stick to the same direction as the other eye because it had no orientation/too much blur. So definetly improving only 1 eye to zero would be hell to live with.

      Directly behind me, on the top shelf of the short book shelf? To be honest, loads of different translations of the Bible 😂 In this room we have a lot of theology and spiritual sort of books (I work for a church), and also a book case of collectible books as well (which you can't see in this video, but can see in this one: ruclips.net/video/TJnxRgKThx0/видео.html ). All my fiction books or non-religiousy non-fiction books (like health stuff, or sociology stuff) are in the other room. 😉
