    No mistakes, just learning what doesn't work! Welcome to the club of people who've tried to reduce faster and concluded it doesn't work for us. You're doing the right thing by increasing correction for now. I've found life to be more fun with less blur.

      I am looking forward to being able to use AF for actually feel like I can reach clarity. Occasionally it seems to have worked - ai have cleared up the blur with the -1.75s, so I thought I should stick with this correction, but most of the time it hasn't, and I think 'most of the time' is what matters.

    Looking forward to your forthcoming astigmatism video. Currently have -0.75 cylinder in both eyes, no spherical. I would love to get rid of the slight blur/double vision that I experience. I have never worn glasses or contacts, but I’m thinking about getting -0.5 cylinder correction so that I can mess with the blur and possibly retrain my eyes to focus better.

    I enjoyed your thoughts on what you think you have done wrong with your choice of glasses on your journey to wearing no glasses. You don’t know if you’re doing the right thing until you try. I am going to continue to get information from Jake, yourself and others on the journey to endmyopia and wait until the new year to get differentials and normalised glasses.

    Hey Gem. I'm stuck in a rut myself. Had some good clarity for a while, then back to DV. It's been a couple weeks. It's no fun, but I refuse to backtrack.
    I enjoyed the video as always. Thanks for sharing your story and troubles. It's helpful knowing we are all struggling together.

      Yeah, I wouldn't backtrack for double vision either - double vision is a good sign, even if it does seem like it went backwards, you are still not far off clarity. Hope your rut ends soon! Any ideas why this rut happened, or just eyes doing their eye thing?

    Left eye: -3.75Sph, -1.5cyl
    Right eye: -3.25sph, -2.5cyl
    I wore my old glasses that had the same astigmatic power but lesser spherical that I don't remember somehere (1.5 to 2) and each lens has different dioptres of spherical.
    So I've been wearing my old glasses for a month and yesterday I went to my optometrist
    My current prescription is
    Left eye: -3.5 sph, -1.5 cyl (0.25 improvement)
    Right eye: -2.5 sph, -2.5 cyl (0.75 improvement)
    I can't bring both dioptres equally down..
    Do u have any idea? Any tips?
    Or is it because I didn't wear a calculated and properly reduced lens?
    Whenever I do active focus(normal blink no stinging -> clear vision)or Clear flash (close my eyes relax then open -> water gushing and stinging with clear vision)...... Only my right eye seems to be seeing clearer than my left eye...hence my right eye got even better than my left eye...
    Am I doing something wrong? Is it the methods? Or is it the normalised(blur challenged lens)?
    I don't wear glasses/differentials for close up as I dont really need them to read
    Pls reply..

    Hi Gem! Good luck with your N5s! Tell me, have you checked your eyesight improvements just at home or have you visited a professional since you started your EM journey? Yesterday I had a very interesting experience. I had to check up my eyes to renew my outdated driving licence (haven't driven a day since I got it , but it still somehow makes sence to get a new one haha). Anyway, I was somewhat confident that my vision should be around -2 at worst since my measurements show 67-75 cms for the last few month. And imagine my surprise when the machine spilled OD -4.25 OS - 4.0! And then on the chart I was able to see OD V 0.4 and OS V 0.3. It was a sunny day but of course the window curtions were down and the chart was on the gloomy digital screen. On my question why the didn't measure eyesight with normal daylight the opto told me that they should measure the worst conditions possible. And also she was were surprised about my chat reading comparing to the machine results - they didn't really concord. So her only explanation was that I had a lot of accomodational spasm and probably should use some eye drops that diolate pupils and get rid of spasm (causing blood vessel hypoxia and probably some other toxic effects). Leaving the opto office I saw a note on my cheak-up list that my vision was OD 0.2 OS 0.2. And that was a so called professional not your average salesperson in the mall.
    So I was very confused and a bit disappointed. I just couldn't figure out how it was possible to clearly see better and have such results. Since March 2020 up to now my eyesight have changed from 45 cms up to 70-75. Funny enough that just ufter my check up I measured my eyesight and it was 77 cms!!! My best result ever. And I clearly see the chart on my wall better, I'm able to read from my phone from my lap distance, not that I'm doing this a lot but before I could only use my phone at no more than 40 cms from my face.
    Do you have any idea why my official test is so far from my own?
    BTW I've been writing all this without any glasses though it's already dark outside and normally I would have to use my pinhole glasses for my computer work.
    Have a great day!

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +1

      No, I haven't been to an opto yet. I only ever really went when I needed stronger glasses, so not very often anyway. Because of their tendency to over correct a little, and because when I began EM I didn't start with any overcorrection (in fact, I probably wasn't far off from going to the opto for a stronger correction - hence why I started doing EM: I didn't want a stronger correction!), I am assuming they would want to correct me at least 0.5 more than I am measuring - my N3s are my driving glasses, and are overcorrected for anything except night driving, but optos need to give you glasses that will be strong enough for night driving, and so I want to wait until I am further away from my starting numbers, not just 1 or 0.75 diopters of improvement. I know myself, and I know that if I feel I am doing well, but an opto says otherwise, I will lose a lot of motivation. But if I know there will be a significant improvement in my correction, then that is when I will go to the opto. I was considering going in Jan, to have opto measurements for the new year, but I need to get off this plateau first.
      As for your situation, how odd! 2 things I can think of 1. Was it a new opto, or someone you had seen before? If they know your previous correction, they would be less likely to decrease correction as, to them, myopia is unreversible. 2. It could be clinical blur adaptation, where your brain has turned up the contrast and is making clear pictures in the visual cortex from blurry images on the retinas. Or maybe 3. You are EM blur adapted, and so the blur is there, you have just lost your sensitivity to blur, so think that is what clear vision looks like. Or 4. You're measuring with too much optimist about how far you can get from your screen while still seeing clarity. Or 5. Your opto is wrong.
      Could be something else too, but those are things I can think of.
      Do you have a Snellen chart up? What like can you read on it with your current correction?
      Could you try a different opto and get a second opinion about your eyes?
      I didn't quite understand though when you wrote that the note said your vision was 0.2 - would that be like 0.25 in glasses, or is that 2.00? Either way, that is nothing like your 75-77 measurements.
      Someone posted something similar on the Facebook group recently. Was that you?

    • @mysli_vsluh
      @mysli_vsluh 4 года назад

      @@GemilyMez It was a new opto. And I agree with you about not ckecking your eyesight in order not discourage yourself. In my case I had to do it because of my driving licence check up. And also I'm not sure if have that much blur adaptation. I don't think I would be able to work and read from my computer with an eyesight as bad as - 4 without any correction at all. I don't wear any glasses, I use only my pinholled onces during the night time or if my eyes are really tired. And as I'm writing this I see that the font is very small, somewhat 1-2 mm (I'm on my 14" laptop and the distance to my screen is about 60-65 cms). Of course it's a bit blurry but I'm able to read it rather well.
      Also when I measure my eyesight I do those rocking motions back and forth to make it most accurate and I notice the state of smaller font below the Focus word. For me I find that not only should the main word be really readable but the smaller letter should also be just small not blurry or doubled in any way. As I understand people with normal vision don't see something just because it's very small or very far away when miopic people don't see it 'coz it's blurred or doubled (in case of asthigmatism)
      I use a mini Snellen chart for additional check-up that fits on one A4 and the distance to it is somewht 6ft or 2.5 m. And on that chart I'm able to see the 7th, sometimes even the 9th line. I have a bit gindow in my room so there is a lot of natural light that really helps.
      And also all the measurements I wrote above - they are for both eyes since I've notice a bit drifference between measuring only one eye at the time and both eyes (arond 10-15 cm or 1-2 lines on the chart).
      Me only guess that it was a very stressful situation for my brain since optos are really connected to a lot of bad memories for me (everytime the told me that my eyesight got worse). And I think that those machines are nor very accurate as well.
      And one more thing: are you supposed to do AF while measuring? I thinks I now try to do AF all the time while working with text since I don't wear any glasses.
      And about FB post it wasn't me so I would appreciate if you directed me to that post or told me what it was about. Thanks!

    try doing active focus with something in good focus, try to magnify details.. put something close to the eyes until it starts to become blurry and then sharp again, that's how i release the spasm.I have found many tricks that work for me, I can almost read clearly from the screen without glasses.

    hi, I feel that my differentials are weakening my weak eye. do you feel that as well?
    and also, what do you think about equalizing while I still have cyl correction? I know Jake doesn't advise it but I saw you have done this and it worked for you

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  2 года назад +1

      Hi! I do not feel that my differentials are weakening my weak eye, no.
      Regarding equalising while still with cyl:
      1. I can't say for sure that it worked for me - my last optometrist appointmet, the opto put cyl correction in the correction he recommended for me. And my diopter gap was still given as 0.5, not the 0.25 I am wearing.
      2. I had astigmatism correction since I was 10, which did not increase over the years but stayed static. I only developed myopia at age 22 or 23, so I am not sure whether my astigmatism is lens-induced, or if it is legit astigmatism that I won't be getting rid of or not.
      I would always recommend following Jake's advice. He knows what he is talking about:

    Hey Gem. I wonder how can I understand if I am blur adapted or my ciliary muscle is still in spasm and I have to wait till it releases

    • @GemilyMez
      @GemilyMez  4 года назад +2

      It can be hard to know for use whether your ciliary is in spasm, that's why the EM method begins with differentials and why you are meant to work on the edge of blur - by eliminating over correction for close up, your ciliary muscle is no longer required to tense up. Add some distance vision in and your ciliary will have a good reason to relax. You will know know you have ciliary spasm by comparing your eye sight - is there something that early in the morning you can see clearly, but after a few hours at a computer is now blurry? But if you have never released your ciliary spasm since starting EM, you may not have anything to compare it to, so it can be hard to know for sure. I think if you have worn glasses for screen work, you can assume that you start EM with ciliary spasm.
      Blur adaptation is different. In EndMyopia, it refers to getting used to blur, so your brain/eyes no longer feels the need to do anything about it. Clinical blur adaptation is when your brain kind of changes the settings like on a computer screen - like increasing the contrast - to help you see better in blur, but it doesn't mean the blur has actually improved.

    • @SAvannagEvanS
      @SAvannagEvanS 4 года назад

      @@GemilyMez Super interesting about the clinical blur adaptation. I think that's what I have given my big divergence. (One eye 20/20, one myopic to the point of clinical blindness.) 2 months of 'end myopia' on my left eye, had done nothing. Perhaps because I've had 40 years of clinical blur adaptation. It's pretty ingrained. 😒

    I know right. The plateau sucks. But troubleshooting with your habits and checking your log is really helpful . In my case i looked at my log i found that in the end of April 2020 i was around -1.5 . And i start using -1 as my Normalised ( actually i had -1.25 glasses but i wanted to keep them for night vision and i really was rushing idk why ) so i had active focus challenge which was kinda difficult . but i kept going outdoors it was summer it was sunny most of the days .... and in the end of July . my cm improved to 80 cm (-1.25) and yeah with -1.25 i can see 20/20 and more . But since then i got plateaued for MONTHS !!!!! . No matter what i tried . I got laptop for my close up work . I started to go outside more . I started to spend some time without glasses and active focus without them to have extra challenge. Going for long walks .. etc . But my cm and Snellen results didn't change my cm at their best is around 80/83cm. . I was thinking of just dropping to -0.75 but i knew it would be a big jump and probably wouldn't benefit me. So last week i switched back to -1.25 and OH MY GOD effortless 20/20 vision is amazing . I can look everywhere and it's clear without any effort . I decided to keep wearing -1.25 and enjoy the effortless clarity that i never had before. And hopefully when i get back to -1 my eye will try to get back to the same clarity that i had with -1.25 .

My right eye is the lazier eye but it seems faster to adapt to the drop despite my left has been the same for more than 4 months. Anyway I'm trying a R - 1.75 L -1.50.
