  • Hey there, book lovers and writing wizards! 📚✨ Get ready for another fun tech review video where I compare the Kobo Libra Color and the Kindle Paperwhite!
    I got lucky and received the Kobo Libra Color e-reader ahead of it's upcoming release and had to share a review. Since I have big plans on using it as a tool for my writing, I wanted to show off all its features on this channel so other writers can think about this option as well.
    So summon your inner bookworm, and get ready to talk e-reader tech. Just kidding, we're mostly chatting about this baby as it relates to books. If you're looking for detailed specs on the devices, I do not have them. What I do have is a huge passion for fun readers that let me annotate, take notes, and look at pretty graphic novels all in one spot. Let's get into it!

    I love the Kobo Color! It's a beautiful experience. I have the Kindle Scribe and I believe Amazon really missed the mark on that one. The Scribe is definitely a nice device, but it's the one I turn to the least because of the large size and the limited use of the stylus. In contrast, with the Kobo, I can annotate a book the way I would if I were reading an actual paperback or hardback.

    • @ANSageWrites
      @ANSageWrites  2 месяца назад +1

      This is exactly how I feel too. The kobo is the right size for me and the color annotation is honestly amazing. I love it

      I also dislike that you can’t annotate on the page on the Scribe.
      Amazon should have made the Oasis or an Oasis size as their “Scribe” or even 8” instead of 7”.

    I find the big problem with Kindle, though this applies to any e-book (or any other digital media) ecosystem, is that should you - for whatever reason - violate the or happen to hack off Amazon via one of their many, many, many, many, many services and they threaten to close your account - you risk losing all your e-books, audiobooks, purchased Prime Video content, etc. We've also seen cases when a company removes itself from a country (Barnes and Noble in the UK) and palming the service off to another company - only for that company to eventually shut down the service. I really do wish e-books were platform and ecosystem neutral where the same content can be used across all e-readers and platforms. But as always, tech companies "know best". As for me, as Amazon wields a bit too much power, I'm moving to Kobo (Colour Libra) and buying new books there. But I'm using Calibre to make a full backup of my Kindle library as a precaution.

    • @Movielad76
      @Movielad76 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ANSageWrites Here in the UK, I've written to my MP about the right to transfer digital goods to other services. He's replied to say that he'll debate this in parliament when it comes up, but that could take ages. It's a start, though! Yes, I've chosen the Kobo Colour Libra because it's the closest to the Kindle Oasis in form, plus the Kobo supports more formats than the Kindle - it's more "open" (or as much as open can be in a protected ecosystem). I'll probably stick with Audible for audiobooks for the time being, however.

    • @lys762
      @lys762 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ANSageWrites If you plan to use Calibre, I would suggest you to also take advantage of its "Annotations" plugin which will allow you to back-up your highlights/notes from your Kobo to your Calibre/PC :)
      (Plus, with Calibre and Kobo, you will also able to automatically create collections and to update any metadata you wish for all your books. I love playing around with subtitiles and series :D)

    • @kathyw.1835
      @kathyw.1835 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for your practical review. I'm not into all the tech specs but just want to know the ins and outs as a reader. I'm in the States with a Kindle Paperwhite so would have to transfer content with Calibre. My main concern however is that one of my favorite authors is a Kindle Unlimited author with several longrunning series. While I do have a Kindle app on my Samsung Galaxy phone I'm assuming I would have to purchase her books, download to Kindle app and then transfer yet again to the Kobo? That being said I still really would like to get away from being so tied to Amazon and this color ereader ticks all of my boxes - size, physical page turn buttons and USB-C charging. Am I missing anything?

    • @ANSageWrites
      @ANSageWrites  2 месяца назад

      I think you got it all! I'm not sure how calibre works or if it goes against any Amazon rules and regulations so I can't speak to it. I know people mentioned there are certain books it can't transfer and I'm thinking those might be KU books since they are exclusive to Amazon. With that said, I'm keeping my kindle specifically for KU books and will be using Kobo for everything else.

    The E Ink technology is the same. If or when Amazon brings out a Color Kindle, the screen is likely to be the same tech as the Kobo Libra Color. But the Kobo has the first mover advantage. I'm sure Amazon is confident of domination over the Color E Readers when it brings out its own Color Kindles.

      @ANSageWrites Lol, agree with you there! They know they're the biggest player, and are working to a plan. They're sure that once their Color Kindle comes out, many will upgrade to it, and they will use their dominant position to get more money out of existing Kindle owners.

    • @ablair7007
      @ablair7007 2 месяца назад

      I would not hold my breath for colour Kindles anytime soon... not only has Amazon recently downsized its Kindle team significantly, but manufacturing of the eInk colour screens has not been easy to ramp up to volume. So Kobo by coming out first, Rakuten Kobo has essentially booked all the company's colour screen production capacity for the rest of 2024 and into 2025 (Kindles also use eInk screens exclusively). Plus with Kindle having almost ten times the market share of Kobo, eInk would have to be able to produce ten times the volume to colour screens in order for Amazon to be able to offer a colour Kindle... its not going to happen anytime soon. Maybe in 2026 there will be a colour Kindle actually available, unless Kindle goes with a completely different screen technology.

    • @AnjanS-rp4qk
      @AnjanS-rp4qk 2 месяца назад

      @ablair7007 The Amazon Kindle has become ubiquitous now. The growth as percentage is going to be difficult unless there is a breakthrough idea or a novelty, say, a Color Kindle. You are right, the same Company supplies both Kobo and Amazon. Interesting info about the volumes locked down by Kobo. Obviously they have the first mover advantage. But the Amazon Kindle user base is huge. Whenever they bring out something substantially novel, that is the demographic that will drive sales and volume growth. If, however, Amazon has given up the battle for now, that would mean a long delay. Even if Amazon pushes for more production growth, it will take years to move from plans to production. Guess they're looking at some other numbers. Interesting info. Thanks.

    I’ve currently got the same Kindle PW and I’m very very tempted to go with the Kobo Libra Color due to its features (not just the color aspect).
    I’ve only got 81 Kindle ebooks so it shouldn’t be too hard to move over, however, I just don’t know what to do with KU as KU is a great option if I end up reading a lot, which I hope to eventually. Even reading one Ebook a month you get your $ worth with KU.
    So I’m really indecisive, not to mention at the moment I can’t justify owning 2 ereaders at the moment 😢 I just don’t do enough reading, hopefully I will one day and I’ll definitely be buying a Kobo in the future.
