  • No one does retro motorcycling as authentically and successfully as Royal Enfield in India. Hero's new Mavrick 440 wants to add a shot of performance and modernity to this genre, while Honda with it's CB350, wants to offer a largely similiar experience to the Bullet 350. Dinshaw Magol finds out what flavour of retro is best for you.

I don't know why these people find cb350 gearing such an issue. Once you get used to it, it is not an issue at all. It is the nature of that bike and you have to learn how it behaves. Tall gearing makes this bikes extremely smooth at any rev range. I have cb350 rs and i like it's gearing. The only down side is it affects its top end. You have to rev it hard in 4th gear only to reach let's say upto130kmph and then only put in 5th gear. It wont take you from 100 to 130 in 5th gear easily. 5the gear is just for relaxed Cruising and for increasing fuel efficiency.
Btw I'm really surprised after looking comments supporting cb350. People understand what matters most, not always bhp and cc matters. But honda need to work on marketing and they should seriously bring something new now. Rest honda is love ❤

People sometimes forget what is important and get unnecessarily bogged down with such things. Keep in mind that many people forgave RE for many years despite horrible engine refinement. Those who understand and value Japanese engineering will know just how great a machine the Honda is.

Moreover retro classics look like this be it any brand, it's not unique to RE even though RE makes the best retros no doubt. Second thing, CB350 comes with optional 7 yr extended warranty which means 10 yrs manufacturer warranty which I guess is the best. Honda is reliable, vibration free and service wise better than RE. On a serious note, I don't care if CB350 looks like Bullet, It is the only retro bike today that is 'Built like a Gun' at that budget. It also delivers the maximum bang for the bucks when it comes to fuel efficiency and addresses the elephant in the room with aplomb. Honda might not have as many service centres as the RE, but I believe, a robust Honda will rarely get stranded. (The reason Unicorn and Activa are still so popular)

Im planning to purchase a bike. Confused between Royal Enfield classic 350 and Honda CB350.. please suggest me which is better ??
Another minus point is i have RE showroom and service centre in my home town... For Honda i have to travel 50km to purchase. Regarding service they said that they will keep a service mela in my hometown for every 2 or 3 months. Is it a minus?? Please guide me

@@OmFreeRadicalcb 350. You wont need to visit svc other than a service or major damage. So, its inversely related. Get it and sleep well at night and enjoy while on roads.

Every bike indeed has its pros and cons. I purchased a Hero Mavrick 440 just 2 months ago, and unfortunately, I've encountered multiple issues within this short period. In these 2 months, I've had to visit the service center 12 times. So far, the ECU, throttle body, and gear position sensor have all been replaced. Now the horn, hazard & speedometer is not working. The bike is showing new issues every week. I hope this helps anyone planning to buy the Mavrick 440 to make an informed decision.

    That hero 440 motor deserves
    1. a true classic body work.
    2. And a himalayan 411 like retri adv body.

RE Bullet though seems heavy on paper but once you start riding it the bike is so well balanced that the weight just dissapears. Handling is very good in tight city traffic as well on highway. Brakes too are good as they stop the bike nicely. Bike seat is super comfortable, very well made seat. Suspension is the best thing abt this bike, its so well set up you won't feel exhausted ever after long ride. Fuel economy abt 32 kmpl in city conditions is ok but could have been better. Design wise its a beauty. Glad i made it mine.

I was a Dominar 400 owner for almost 5 years, sold it since it was becoming difficult for city office rides, bought Honda Highness its a gem its engineered perfectly the weight distribution is so well done you feel like riding a normal bike and the weight doesn't fall on shoulders or back and the gearing ratio is a bit odd in the initial days but now i have got accustomed both city and highways ! RE i would not even consider its a hit or miss game with no alloys and very disappointing service.

In my experience so far (not counting the maverick), I feel most comfortable carrying a pillion on the classic/bullet 350. There's no feel of wobble or lack of torque and it pulls away so easily.
CB350 was the only other bike that came decently close to it.

Mavrick is my personal choice..Its retro yet modern..It has more performance and has more features like turn by turn navigation, automatic headlamps and slipper clutch with 6 gears..It can effortlessly cruise in 6th gear at 100 to 110 all day and still has power to pull..The bottom end torque is also decent and is far better than Honda..

CB350 for refinement & reliability any day!
    Own one.
Love the suspension on the Maverick 440 tho
And the cb350 is based on the 1970's dream cb series
With your logic the continental and interceptor gt 650 is a plain copy of the Triumph Thruxton.

If its a retro comparison why Jawa 350 is missing, rather than Mavrick Jawa 350 was the best contendor as Mavrick falls under neo retro bikes like Triumph speed 400, Honda CB300

People going for these long stroke catagory mainly for the majestic look. If you want a smooth bike there are better bikes. Again if you want a high performance bike, there are better options. But only bullet can offer majestic stace which none of the other two cannot match. So my choice is bullet.
