U read my mind. Exactly what I thought when Malcolm opened the door and she came right in. On top of that, she always throws mud in Audrey's direction when she can, so obviously keeping her in the dark was better for everyone, except nosey Ivy
SPOILER ALERT: Shirley and Curly are so cute together. Fast-forward a year or two and shame on the scriptwriters for the moronic Racquel, who broke Curly's heart and who was so shallow she made Audrey Roberts look like a brain surgeon. Ha ha. Loving these old eps.
Curly was broken hearted over Shirley. Remember when he played loud music and stopped paying his rent? Alf kicked him out and Vera brought him home like poor little lost puppy dog. They certainly did make a mess out of Curly’s storylines. I don’t understand the appeal of Raquel at all. I know she had and still has a following but is not my cup of tea.
The actor Shane Rimmer was Canadian and this was his second time in the street. Apart from playing Malcolm Reid he also played GI Joe Donelli in 1967 and 1970. He was a busy chap as he killed Elsie Tanner's husband in 67 and terrorised poor Irma Barlow in 1970, ending in suicide. I watched the episodes last year and some fabulous acting indeed by all concerned.

I still remember the Curley and Lucy scenes from when I watched as a kid, thought they were very funny but touching. Shirley was awful, it’s a shame she didn’t make an effort with her sister as much as Curley did.
@@chrissywales6575- You've said pretty much what I was going to. I remember my Mum doing the same thing back in the 80's when I was little. Most small groceries weren't self service. Even if you were in the shop yourself the grocer would get the goods for you. I think Audrey should kick spoilt big baby Alf into touch! Shes given him every chance to change his small shopman attitude! I swear, I’d have dipped if my wife got a dog and made me take care of it. I get that Bet and Alec are supposed to be the comic reliefs during this point, but did they have to make Bet so unlikeable in the process?
Shane Rimmer was Canadian! It was not his first appearance in the show either. He murdered Elsie's American GI husband Steve by shoving him down a flight of stairs.
His accent is American - not at all Canadian. At least I hope that's not what we sound like. LOL . I've known Brits that have been here the best part of their adult lives and they still have a British accent. Nitpicking me..
Anyone else noticed how big the ceilings are in Corrie? In each house and the pub? All have boarders around the top. The problem is that the houses would have to be much higher for ceilings like that in real life, obviously I know they have to be high as it’s all filmed on sets but it’s just a bit noticeable
Bet is playing a blinder with Alec...He could give, Ebenezer Scrooge a run for his money... But she wears the trousers in that relationship...He goes a bit too far, and Bet pulls him right back into place...Her name should still be over the door as the licensee...Alec doesn't really care about any of the customers, Bet does, that's the difference Yes, it's just a TV programme but, I've known a couple of bar owners, and it's the landlady that makes the decisions. Alf was used to having Rene as more of an equal partner in the business. Audrey was the floozie who managed to finally luck out and hook a man who was actually single. She ran ring’s around him and got security. She still bought everything she wanted but he finally got her in the end when he cancelled his life insurance.
Why does Ivy think she has a right to know everything, I really can't stand that woman. Wish someone would get her told.

Alec and Bet pairing... what a stroke of genius.
They're a good double-act but I think they're 3rd in line to Hilda and Stan and Jack and Vera. Especially Hilda and Stan.
Yea, Jack and Vera got better with age, but Hilda and Stan were the unbeatable pair.

never understood giving the shopkeeper a list to pick up later. you are in the shop so you might as well just get your goods.
Back then, people would drop in their order for pickup or delivery later. It's the equivalent of those who today order online.
