As a teenager in the states, I was an anomaly for liking this series. I was so fortunate to be able to pick up Canada's CBC TV. The series, during the mid 70's thru the 1980s was pure gold-a perfect mix of humor and drama.
@@jasonbarron3047soaps basically replicate the times and era we are in, so corrie today is rubbish. I was only about one when this was originally broadcasted so all new to me and I love it.
The car raffle plot is a comic masterpiece. The 'obvious' answer - Fred should 'buy' some tickets himself - appeared to have been missed by the writers. Then Jack suddenly suggested it, then there was that hilarious final twist, which also established Percy Sugden as a Coronation Street legend. Thanks so much for these!
Bernard Youens really aged in the last few years and looked so much older than his 69 years when he died in 1984 bless him. His ill health really took its toll. He is so stooped in these episodes. Great character and he played it so well considering he had his stroke years earlier and struggled through.
I found Terry Duckworth so loveable back then. Such a pity they reversed the roles of him and Jack and turned Terry into the devil incarnate. Terry and Tracy Barlow's personality transplants were the biggest mistakes of 90s Corrie imo.
I dunno, he's quite boring in this mode. The evil Terry storylines to come are some of the best of the 80s and 90s, and they draw out some excellent drama from the Duckworth household, instead of non-stop slapstick comedy.
@@frazzleface753absolutely have to agree with you there. Huge storylines pure open heart wrenching storylines. The acting portrayed by all of the Duckworth's, was absolutely brilliant.

Is it just me who thinks the character of Maggie is such a selfish cow? All Mike wants to do is see his baby. Not like he’s got some weird interest in a non-relation. “I want, I want.” We don’t all get what we want in life.
Well she really went with him to get money for a second shop, she was an opportunist. Mike said no and that was it. She got the money from the man she married.

Her argument that Mike coming into his sons life now would disrupt things too much is ridiculous considering he isn’t even a year old and it would make no difference to suddenly have Mike in his life.
I never thought Maggie was attractive..there was no sexual attraction from Mike. Her hair accentuates her triangle head, and look. I think the producers could have put some effort into her look. But maybe she was not meant to stay on the program….

Absolutely ridiculous at this late stage that Granada were still trying to sell the viewers the notion that Stan could actually do a window round, when it was perfectly obvious Bernard could hardly walk let alone push a barrow about the streets. Its one thing trying to suspend reality, but another trying to persuade the viewer of an impossibility.
Stretching credibility is commonplace in ‘soaps’ even today, just as ridiculous is Annie Walkers absence being explained away by visits to her daughter ‘Joanie’ and perpetual confinements to her bedroom with migraines when Doris Speed had actually left the series already.
