As others have remarked, it’s brilliant to see Eddie back for a couple of episodes this month. Apparently he was keen to act with Jean Alexander one last time as he knew was leaving. What a fantastic actor Geoffrey Hughes was.. he brought so much to role of Eddie Yeats.. and putting him with Stan & Hilda as their lodger was a stroke of genius!

@@stormhawk3319 Mike was a great character, but the writers made him a selfish and manipulative husband to Susan Barlow. She was insufferable, obviously, but he married a 21 year old woman and was talking about having kids immediately. He wasn't supportive of her working, he even sacked her! And when she did get pregnant, he drives her to the middle of nowhere and tells her that's going to be their new home, and what a wonderful life his children will have there, and how he'll need plenty of boys. She's a couple of months pregnant and it sounds like he's got another four or five pregnancies planned for her. Virtually any woman would walk away from that.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, with Stan dead, Hilda belongs with Eddie! That character deserved to be put out to pasture with the people she looked at as family, not with Dr. Lowther. I don't get why the scriptwriters chose that end for her, I really don't. For Hilda to leave her home, surely she would only realistically have done so for a really special reason, ie being welcomed into the Yates house as an honorary grandma for Dawn.

Unpopular opinion - I don’t think Granada did much to help Wendy Jane Walker. She’s actually not that bad an actress (look at her compared to Brian, Kevin, Alan, Jenny) and she was so very young at the time (about 21) where she was largely working with older actors. There’s rumours she and Johnny Briggs didn’t get on and everyone seems to blame her. Couldn’t he have been the difficult one? We’ve seen how young people (women & men) are effectively abused, bullied and harassed in this industry so imagine what it was like in 1985 when she came back on the show. I imagine she was treated quite poorly. I also think it was rotten of the much older Bill Podmore to criticise her casting. No wonder she left the business. Ask yourself this - at 21 in an industry full of sexism, bullying and being paired up with established older men to act love scenes with - how would you have come off in 1985 as someone who was really just a kid. Perhaps she stood up to them? Perhaps it gave her mental health issues? I don’t think it’s a coincidence she never acted again. Wendy now lives a very happy, quiet life in Cornwall with her family. I’m
Pleased to hear it. I can’t believe she was so bad she became the unpopular figure she seems to be. But it seems the producers wanted to write little comments about a character they named Wendy in to the script and had Susan abort her baby behind the father (a popular character’s) back. They knew in 1987 that the audience would largely dislike Susan for that. I feel like they did it on purpose to further demonise Wendy.

yes she was a good enough actress to have had a decent career - The Corrie script did her no favour an as you say conpared to the vile Jenny she was way way above in her acting

Interesting that they had a character called Wendy in the last episode of Wendy Jane Walker. And wrote a line into it "not very well brought up, is she - WENDY!" Too much to be a coincidence. It seems the actress wasn't very well liked

Bet has always supported Hilda, when she needed it.
Look at the concern and support she's giving her now.
Meanwhile, all Hilda has done, lately, is run around behind Bet's back, putting the poison and boot in, everytime Bet has any problems.
