As others have remarked, it’s brilliant to see Eddie back for a couple of episodes this month. Apparently he was keen to act with Jean Alexander one last time as he knew was leaving. What a fantastic actor Geoffrey Hughes was.. he brought so much to role of Eddie Yeats.. and putting him with Stan & Hilda as their lodger was a stroke of genius!

She was insufferable, obviously, but he married a 21 year old woman and was talking about having kids immediately. He wasn't supportive of her working, he even sacked her! And when she did get pregnant, he drives her to the middle of nowhere and tells her that's going to be their new home, and what a wonderful life his children will have there, and how he'll need plenty of boys. She's a couple of months pregnant and it sounds like he's got another four or five pregnancies planned for her. Virtually any woman would walk away from that.

Susan has issues. She is acting like having a baby is a death sentence She is so selfish and childish, she shouldn’t have gotten married. She should have gotten herself a cat and lots of boxed wine so she could enjoy her empowerment alone
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, with Stan dead, Hilda belongs with Eddie! That character deserved to be put out to pasture with the people she looked at as family, not with Dr. Lowther. I don't get why the scriptwriters chose that end for her, I really don't. For Hilda to leave her home, surely she would only realistically have done so for a really special reason, ie being welcomed into the Yates house as an honorary grandma for Dawn.
I agree, or another nice ending for Hilda would have been for her to have ended up marrying Tom Hopwood and going to live in his bungalow with him. It would have made more sense than Dr. Lowther proposing, just wouldn't have happened in real life

I always believed that Mike really loved Dierdre. He probably would have ruined it in the longrun if she had left Ken for him, as he can't seem to deal well with the women in his life, but I would have liked to have seen them give it a go. Ken is like a robot in a wig.

I think to make it through one of the many Mavis fluttering fits of nervous convulsions is to remind one's self she is acting, which is hard to do while shouting at her from the settee.
i think she's perhaps the best actress on the show. to portray this emotionally fragile woman, always seemingly on the edge of a nervous breakdown, certainly takes some acting ability. equally, she acts as the touchstone for other people's emotional chaos.

She’s actually not that bad an actress (look at her compared to Brian, Kevin, Alan, Jenny) and she was so very young at the time (about 21) where she was largely working with older actors. There’s rumours she and Johnny Briggs didn’t get on and everyone seems to blame her. Couldn’t he have been the difficult one? We’ve seen how young people (women & men) are effectively abused, bullied and harassed in this industry so imagine what it was like in 1985 when she came back on the show. I imagine she was treated quite poorly. I also think it was rotten of the much older Bill Podmore to criticise her casting. No wonder she left the business. Ask yourself this - at 21 in an industry full of sexism, bullying and being paired up with established older men to act love scenes with - how would you have come off in 1985 as someone who was really just a kid. Perhaps she stood up to them? Perhaps it gave her mental health issues? I don’t think it’s a coincidence she never acted again. Wendy now lives a very happy, quiet life in Cornwall with her family. I’m Pleased to hear it. I can’t believe she was so bad she became the unpopular figure she seems to be. Bet has always supported Hilda, when she needed it. Look at the concern and support she's giving her now. Meanwhile, all Hilda has done, lately, is run around behind Bet's back, putting the poison and boot in, everytime Bet has any problems.
Even if they didn’t interact much previously I’d have thought Vera knew Eddie well enough to have a brief catch up chat rather than just a quick token hiya. I know he was sat with Kev, Sally and Curly so maybe she didn’t want to intrude but that’s never stopped her before lol.
