      @@andreaschmall5560 ...Andrea, you are absolutely correct that the Bee Gees were very popular and wildly successful. However, they were ceaselessly ridiculed in the music press for producing fluff and junk, particularly in their so-called disco phase. Success and popularity doesn't necessarily translate into critical acclaim. The music press, in particular - RollingStone Magazine - were particularly brutal...as they were with Led Zeppelin (whom they trashed repeatedly). I think that now both the Bee Gees and Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page in particular) are recognized for being trailblazers. Barry Gibb was recently presented a Kennedy Center award. And clearly Barry deserves the Gershwin Prize too! We shall see if that happens.

    Barry doesn't always do falsetto, especially in their earlier songs. His first "falsetto" song wasn't until 1975's "Nights on Broadway", however in a live version of the song, it is sung by Maurice. They could all do falsetto. I don't know which Bee Gee videos you've done, but you need to do songs from the 60s through 2001. They are more than mid/late 70s. Also, you should do a video by each one singing lead. They all had great voices, so different, but blended so well. And don't forget Andy.

    Thanks for your reaction.
    The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988.
    The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born.
    All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically.
    Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1967. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced).
    From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too ruclips.net/video/7niXSh7vWRI/видео.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: ruclips.net/video/WH_j90fCIk4/видео.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out ruclips.net/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/видео.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: ruclips.net/video/MT9vRHSWNbk/видео.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you ruclips.net/video/CA4CInDnTk8/видео.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: ruclips.net/video/162GlAEpfrY/видео.html.
    Andy was kind of Barry's mini me, about half a foot shorter and 12 years younger but they were the only lefties of the family. However, his voice was nowhere near as broad in range or as strong as Barry's. As producer Alby Galuten said in the book "Tales of the brothers Gibb "Andy's falsetto was nowhere near Barry's." Andy had a lower, huskier, sound to his voice and his range was not as big as Barry's. I personally always thought his voice was much better suited to songs of his first album, Flowing Rivers. Andy died of myocarditis - which is an inflammation of the heart - on March 10, 1988, 5 days after his 30th birthday. His heart had been weakened by his drug addiction over the years which, by the way, was also the main reason for his split from Victoria Principal. He also had a congenital heart problem that was later also discovered in Barry and Barry's second son Ashley. Try listening to the song Dreamin' on ruclips.net/video/-KdBVKcSSSw/видео.html which is kind of a duet with Barry. And here are the 4 brothers live on stage in 1979 doing You Should Be Dancing ruclips.net/video/_6MR-E_Qzz0/видео.html And finally a few photos of Barry and Andy: i.postimg.cc/jS6n3Jkv/Barry-Andy.jpg and i.postimg.cc/TwnPh8M0/82c126fc42a35d3b737867af41338199.jpg and the 4 brothers with their mother i.postimg.cc/FRNMbwkD/b9b2561eadffee11347573c97063c2f8-zpsd89478eb.jpg

    You'll soon get used to who is who singing the more you jump down the rabbit hole folks . . . You'll soon understand when Robin sings or leads by the wild vibrato that he has in his voice . . . So, the voice that started off this song was Robin's, and then Barry basically took over the rest of it, apart from when their joint harmonies kicked in. The best thing for you both to do is to listen to songs where each of them do the lead in a song, and then you can literally "almost" figure out who is doing what in all of the others after that . . . Barry was mainly the lead in most of their songs while the twins did the backing, and then all three will harmonize at some point. However, if you actually watch their music videos - or anything form their live shows, and not just the music option songs like you are doing here - you'll also see who is singing at the time to help you out voice wise, too!

    They are just amazing... wrote their music.. for decades.. don't mess with this group. Wrote music for soundtracks. I grew up in the 80's my Uncle/Godfather.. loved the BeeGee's b4 the disco era.. when Robin did Massachusettes.. (sp) my Uncle is 20 yrs older than me.. He loved the Bee Gee's b4 the Disco era. This is a song b4 the Disco Era. Never mess with sibling harmonies.. Bee Gee's, Osmond's, Jackson's..

    When they started they were unfairly called out as a sort of the Australian - brother boy band version of the Beatles. But in the Sixties, all bands were compared to Beatles. Their folkish harmonies were unparalleled. Their Greatest Hits from BEFORE their Main Course album are phenomenal and then unparalleled in the 70's. The main difference is that they made the transition in the 70's and started the whole Disco craze. And Barry is one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. Again, right up there with Paul McCartney.

    • @susieq9801
      @susieq9801 6 месяцев назад +3

      They were not Australian but English. They were writing and singing 3 part harmony before anyone in Australia heard of the Beatles but they were accused of copying them. Also don't forget Robin co-wrote 90% of the Bee Gees songs with Barry (including those for Streisand, Rogers/Parton, Warwick, Ross, &c) and Maurice wrote many with them as well. Maurice was the musician who put Robin's and Barry's lyrics and melodies to music and was the third harmonist. Unfortunately disco scuttled their career.

      Yes, the Main Course album was where they transitioned to disco. My favorite song from them is LONELY DAYS. It's an amazing banger that doesn't get played by "reactionists". It was a pretty big hit that I recall hearing frequently during summer break from school. It's possibly their most forgotten hit ... a banger!

Barry was nearly 12 when he and his family emigrated to Australia so he spent most of his childhood in the British isles and the twins were nearly 9 when they left England. You two are great! You should listen to "To Love Somebody" which Barry said was his favorite song. It's also mine. It's another one from the yearly years. ( listen to the live version from 1967) In this song that you just listened to, Robin sings the first verse and Barry sings the rest. Just gorgeous music. The Bee Gees were so underrated. As disco faded they unfairly received a backlash because of their disco music. They were the face of disco and people were burning their records. It became so bad that they started writing songs for other singers. Such a shame. They just played to the market at the time. Their early music is my favorite but I love all of it.
