Mr Mobile is the GOAT right now. Hes been thinking so out of the box with his latest round of videos. I often find myself hoping something new is posted.
All the complaints are *positives* from the perspective of breaking phone addiction. It's a modern and functional device, usable for necessity, uncomfortable for extended use.
This is exactly why I’m interested. I need some Android apps, but want to make general SM, web, & RUclips use not great. My 21 yr old son bought a Cat S22, which has similar usability characteristics, but the Cat’s chunky ruggedness is more than I want. This seems like a sweet spot.
"using a phone this small is inherently uncomfortable" that's the market. I'm looking to stop spending so much time on useless apps and spend more time on better ones. So I'll stop endlessly scrolling on Twitter or IG and spend my time doing something that makes me feel better about myself
I have Unihertz Atom for 2 years now and its still amazing. I looked for a small tough phone because the previous two phones were so big, one broke in my pocket while I was crouching and the one before its screen cracked when i dropped from one feet height on top of a soft carpet. I dropped my unihertz many times and there is still no signs of damage.
I got this phone for two reasons. One, I was using my phone too much. And two, I was sick of carrying around large phones in my pocket. I wouldn't say the phone is uncomfortable to use. It works great for texting, emails, checking stocks etc. Swype typing works 95% of the time. The fingerprint sensor is meh, but it also has face recog, which works great. What you won't do on this phone is surf on it at a bar or anything like that. The phone becomes functional again. And the programmable button is great. I love this phone.
Is typing really okay? I really want a dumb phone but with some essential Android apps like WhatsApp and Spotify. But I'm concerned that typing will be a pain in the a**
@@funnyberries4017 good question. I ended up giving it to my son and went back to a normal phone after a few months. For the price it's a good deal but there's no android support or updates, ever. Bottom line is I'm an information addict 😁 so I need a regular phone.
Perfect for me as thanks to it's small size I'll likely not be tempted into downloading games or binge watching RUclips videos due to it being uncomfortable. However it still has all the features of a smart phone just in case if I need them. As an added bonus I'm in love with the aesthetic of this phone. Absolutely can't wait to get one.👍🏻
When this little thing has more ram than your computer 😭 Edit 9/Jan/2021: guys, I got an upgrade. Ryzen 7, 12GB of RAM, etc. I have a decent PC now and I couldn't be happier
@@BrawndoQC It tells how Apple cut corners. A $120 phone made by a small company has a bigger battery than a $400 phone made by a very big company. It is just so sad.
Imagine kids carrying this and mocked by their friends cause the device so small while they easily slip the phone to an empty bottle or glasses box and their friends phone taken by teacher cause it is freaking big
i totally fell in love with this. I dont need huge phone. All i need is a small phone which dont have internals from 10 years ago. Signed up for preorder.
I feel like if this had a keyboard, a flip out one like the Sony Xperia X10 Mini Pro from way back (yes sony were terrible at naming things back then too), it would make it a much more attractive alternative.
Oh I'd love it, that's a phone for me! FYI, my phone is 8 years old now. I need it to run whatsapp, call/sms and google maps once every blue moon when I'm lost or get somewhere new. I use the web client for messaging 90% of the time anyways and like smaller phones. I don't enjoy media on and hate that current phones are so large and bulky. And I need it to have specs that will last a lot of years again (especially ram), so android go and low end phones are kinda iffy to me - so that rules out a lot of entry level smartphones, feature phones, "expensive" phones and 6"+ phones. So it's basically a phone for someone who hates phones but still needs some smart features.
There's phones you might still be able to buy that are bigger but not _too_ big, like the Sony Xperia XZ1/XZ2 Compacts... the Jelly 2, at like 3 inches or so, is just a bit too small to type and read on.
You could also check out the new iPhone SE 2020. It's the smallest iPhone currently on sale and has the top of the line processor from the flagships inside so it should run well for a good few years.
@@Aaron-gi1xg honestly, I wish the new SE was actually like the old one, a refurbished and updated iPhone 5. Instead, we got quite a chunky boy. Let's compare: iPhone SE (2020): 5.45 inches tall iPhone SE (2016): 4.87 Xperia XZ1 Compact: 5.08 Xperia XZ2 Compact: 5.31 I would consider the latter to be _the absolute maximum size a small phone should be_ , and it's in fact the one I own. Beyond that, you can't comfortably fit it on small pockets or use it with a single thumb. It's a shame even Sony couldn't keep doing these, the Xperia 5 is way bigger. Guess there's no market in it.
@@xerzy Thanks for the recommendation. I didn't know they made compact versions that are actually affordable. @Aaron While I think that it's a really decent smaller form factor phone for some it is totally overkill for me. And ~550$ is the cheapest variant here - quite a lot for a glorified whatsapp machine if you ask me.
@@Mubashir_AK You're right, it's too small. I think I would pay any price for a 4,3" smartphone with top specs. Back in 2014 I had an Xperia that size and loved it
@Z Z I'm using a Xperia XZ1 compact right now. Although I really like the brand new X1 mark 2 shape, I really hope Sony can revive their compact line and don't follow the big ass tablet like phone trend.
Tiny + fully featured = function when needed, no hassle when not. I'd love a case that turns the whole thing into a controller for a Gameboy advance sized emulation machine that's worth packing daily. Seriously, almost the entire phone fits on top of a GBA's screen plate
My first Jelly Pro made it two years, and I only replaced it because of fall damage, lots of fall damage. There's no competition for fitting in your pocket with ease. The keyboard even became fairly easy to use after a week or two of getting used to it. Not easy, but definitely usable. I've never had a phone that got so many reactions and comments. My Red Hydrogen one and my razer phone 2 got less attention. Since the razer is now a brick and the red is on its way to the tar pits,I may be a jelly owner again soon, and happily. Unihertz is great with updates and support too. Nice review. I'll be on that Kickstarter.
Well not really. My Xperia X10 Mini had a 2.5 inch screen. The regular X10 was well over 4 inches at that point I’m pretty sure. And the next generation Xperia Z from 2012 or 2013 had a 5 inch screen. Yes phones got bigger but let’s not exaggerate like that
I just remembered my first Android device, the Galaxy Gio (in 2011), had a 3.2" screen, so just barely bigger than this. Damn, our perception of size has changed.
I had that one too back in 2012 and at the time it was comparatively big to some of my friends' phones which had 2,8-3,0'' screens. What a difference in 10 years time ;) I feel old now btw, haha.
I actually want a fully featured small smartphone. I rely on the usage of certain apps for work and for personal use, but they don't need to be on a large screen for them to be functional. I find myself grabbing my smartphone just when I get bored because there is always something to do with it. I currently am segmenting my media usage between multiple devices, so I become more aware of what I'm spending my time on. I use an Ipod Classic to listen to music, use a Surface Pro when I want to watch something, want to browse the web or if I need to do some basic PC stuff or hop on the Desktop PC to play games or do some more demanding PC stuff. I'm not the kinda guy that says sitting behind a screen is bad, but I do think it's really easy to distract yourself with all this technology. And boredom is good! It gives you the opportunity to reflect on what you really like to do and gives you room to try something new. Having a small phone that is not really a joy to use helps you to not subconciously grab it everytime you're bored and it being properly specced gives you the ability to have access to a full fledged smartphone when it's needed. You can use it as a navigation system, you can use it as a media streamer, you can use it as a phone, you can play games on it, all the smartphone apps you might rely on are supported and they will for years to come, but you're not going to use it that often because doing the things you really want to do are done better by other devices. For me it's always a conscious thought to pick up a device other than my smartphone. My smartphone is always in my pocket and I can whip it out whenever I need it, my surface pro is in my bag or next to my bed, so if I want to get it I have to actually stand up and walk to it. This means I have to consider what I want to do with it and if it's really worth it to me to get up and grab the device. This gives me more headspace to reflect on what I'm actually doing and helps me eliminate wasting time on my smartphone. In short: a small phone helps me with doing things I actually want to do and helps me with eliminating useless phone usage just to fight boredom. Looking back at this comment I see that eliminating wasting time is something that I still need to learn....
@@mrthinker210 Not that long. I write for a living, so typing and figuring out how to convey a message comes natural to me at this point. So if I want to comment on something, I can get into detail with relative ease. And afterwards I don't need to do formatting. I just do that whilst I'm typing. This means that it doesn't take much effort from me to make an understandable, yet detailed comment in a few minutes.
I'm a runner and would be freaking thrilled to have one of these. Taking my huge phone on a run isn't a great experience but I want the reassurance it provides in an emergency.
Yes! Yes, yes... I agree with you 100%. I'm searching for a replacement for my Sony Xperia X Compact... and so reluctant to go iPhone (who seems to be the only brand at the moment offering a Premium Compact!). But that's exactly it - as a runner or cyclist - you want a COMPACT phone that has for one, a "PHONE" and also GPS, BT and Battery Life. All you need from it on a workout (run, hike, cycle). The re-assurance of an waterproof IP rating would be nice too. Those minimal requirements (and this one has a few extras) make it a functional everyday phone too.
@@thatsval9946 Interesting suggestion. But, I do think that it would be kinda hard to phone Emergency Services from an MP3 Player should the need arise. I am also not sure that running Apps like STRAVA would work on an MP3 player (which probably doesn't have GPS).
@@Jonathan_Strange Have you considered a smart watch with cellular capability? My galaxy watch can make emergency calls if needed, something similar that may suit you as well
@@AyrisX86 Thank you for your response and suggestion Morgan. Does your Galaxy watch take a sim card? Can it make phones calls independent of your phone? (or can it only make phone calls while it is connected to your phone, ie. in close proximity, either connected via BT or WiFi. If that is the case... it kind of defeats the aim of ONLY taking the watch with me). I appreciate the suggestion... and maybe I should see if there are Fitness Watches out there that are not too bulky - that can take a sim.
I love the aesthetic of tiny tech. My favorite console is the PSP Go, my favorite laptops are by GPD. I appreciate new, inventive design and seeing the ingenuity to cram as much as you can into something small.
I nevera knew I would find someone with such taste as me Actually My main pc a gpd win 2 even for work... My fav. Console is the psp go... I own a regular size original 3ds... Also o bought a gameboy micro at its days... I am using right now a xperia mini pro for the calls... I was using the anika i9 as main phone before (now it is broken, but it was a great mini phone)... I think I will buy this now since the helio p60 in 3 inch screen size phone is the best option for me
Me too. I have a GPD Pocket 2. I have the original Jelly Pro but it was the battery drain that made me give up on it. That and the camera. I've signed up to this one (Jelly 2) already. I just wish they'd come out with a better camera in the same form factor. I'd gladly pay $250-350 for such a device.
Yeah and it has an IR blaster too! Seems too much of a coincidence that Apple would remove the headphone jack straight after buying Beats Audio which is a headphone company and now Apple have 'airpods' which for some bizarre reason people see as been an adequate alternative to a decent/proper pair of headphones. I really hope that the companys start to bring back the headphone jack it's quite frankly one of the only things holding me back from buying the iPhone SE 2020 in addition to other phones on the market that lack the 3.5mm headphone jack.
AEP-World Nobody thinks the airpods are an adequate alternative to a good pair of headphones. People that buy airpods do it to flex on other people, or because they have a ton of money and don’t really care about sound quality and such. That said, they don’t sound terrible, but there’s way better options out there for the money
I've been using my Unihertz Atom (the first one with 2.5" screen) as the main and only smartphone for just over 2 years now. It's fine, I sometimes wish it had a bigger screen, but not by much. I think 3.5" - 4" screen would be perfect. I had a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro 2 with a 3.5" screen, and it was a brilliant little thing, wish they would make an updated version. I don't get the obsession with phablets..
I need an IPhone 4s sized phone with everything from a flagship, headphone jack and sd card slot so yes ppl loving small phone need real smartphone too.
Lol the Iphone 4s is useless in 2020. I was like you, brought a 2nd Iphone 4s for about 10$ or less with the hope that it still could perform as what I remember back in the day. But to my disappointment, without updating the OS to IOS 9, the phone is unusable. RUclips app doesn’t work, using web browser to play RUclips video was horrible due to 360p quality limitation, laggy experience, no subtitle support. Also most of the apps that you are frequently using today won’t work on older IOS version than 8 or 7, otherwise, if there is an app that still support older ios, it will laggy as hell. Productivity is nearly down to zero point IMO. But if you are type of nostalgia person, buying one and downgrade the ios to 6 to play your lovely older triple A game titles isn’t a bad idea either. Man, I love the time when triple A mobile games still costed you a few buck but didn’t force you to buy ingame item to have good experience. It is just all about gameplay and graphic
Duy Thinh Khuc Bui 1st why did you get it to ios 9 it's just the best way to kill it 2nd An unjailbroken iPhone is useless, jailbreak it and keep it to ios 7 3 I got it for 6 years she was the best phone ever, my current one is not as good feeling than it
I was genuinely expecting a 2-300 price tag so when you said 129 I was like, holy hell that's still impulse pricerange compared to what I was expecting. And that's coming from someone with an aging iPhone SE as a daily driver with a Pixel 4 (which is a miserable first-time android experience) as a backup/alternative
As an android used that Pixel line hurt. I agree 100% but when the Pixel 1 was announced it was the most anticipated phone for me. It just went downhill from there
@@incog0956 The OG pixels were great but the one I'm using costs literally twice what my iphone cost brand new. and it's got so many issues, especially with the screen and battery, that I just don't have much hope for the future of the Pixel line.
People always change the launchers anyway. For this phone I highly recommend Niagara launcher. Hands down the most intuitive launcher out there. No need for an app drawer ever again.
By 2:39, I fell in love with this phone. Just imagine the amout of flexing I can do when my friends ask it's specs and I reply with 128 internal and 6 Gigs of RAM.
I tried Pokemon Go on the old (2.45 inch) Jelly pro. It took a long time to load, but after that it technically worked surpassingly well. Some text was almost impossible to read, though.
This is literally my purpose of my Unihertz Atom (which is IP67 water resistant and rugged ). Perfect little running machine that’s synced with my Apple Music and Spotify playlists.
Yes there is entire subclass of people waiting for tiny android. Of 50 k goal they reached almost 1 million $ on kickstarter. My Jelly2 came in yesterday, and I love it.
@@yoursunnyPower yeah, I guess? If I look hard enough, I could find one or two current 4 inch display phones, but it's the variety and ubiquity I miss. If the SE is too expensive, there's not really another option for me.
Not only that: IT'S A MEDIA PLAYER. It's the perfect device for when you go running and want to take your music with you, but don't want to carry around your big-ass daily. Due to its size, you can fit it in literally any pocket or armband. This phone, coupled to lightweight bluetooth headphones like my Sony NWZ-WS613, is just brilliant. No need for a big memory when you have connectivity and Spotify with you. There IS a market for this, and the market spans literally anyone who does sport, which are increasingly many people not only in the States, but Europe too.
@@rafikz77 better in most ways, but not every way. Apple turned the headphone port into a micro trans action, and it is smaller, which may be a niche feature but it is a feature none the less
The point was that they managed to fit a bigger battery in a smaller package. He didn't say anything about it being a better phone. You Apple heads are so easy to trigger. Smh
Using Jelly pro currently, and yeah, I'm the one who in the category that admire to this kind of compact and mini phone. From the experience, the tiny phone is everything good to me, except the battery (Jelly pro is house with only 950 mAh, really low capacity power supply). Good to know that, the manufacturer realized their former products shortage, and willing to improve it. Looking forward if they will released the better "Pro" version. But, beside the Jelly series, I would rather hope that, they can continue their another products series which equipped with rugged properties -- Unihertz Atom!
@@doug4974 the original atom is good because it's about as small as the jelly, but the atom L is too thick and heavy. Thickness is fine on a smaller phone, but when you make it thick and large it's just heavy and cumbersome
You almost guessed it! The reason I’m interested is because I’m sick of wasting so much time on my smartphone, but dumb phones don’t seem to have enough features for me. Although this phone has the capability to do lots of things, it doesn’t seem like you’d particularly want to do much with it and for me that’s the point haha. I’m also considering a minimalist launcher in addition to it. There’s not really anything that’s perfect on the market for people like me, but this seems like a pretty good option. Your review was really helpful!
Wait wait wait hold on. Are you really comparing the camera to those of the Z Flip and Razr 2019? The phones that cost 10 times this little thing? Am I missing something here?
They came out with the Jelly Star and will be releasing it in the US in a few months. Not as many spec upgrades, but most folks I know getting it are doing so to have new security and software updates.
I've used that one before. I don't remember what phone it was on, but it was great. I was able to get the display to somewhat resemble the shape of the phone, so to me it was a win.
@@HeX341 rectangular display looks good on rectangular phones, like old windows Phone but current curved phones look good with little bit of radius in display corners. And if you don't like it you can always close from app for a fresh change. It's an having an option thing. If inside display corners compliment corners of the phone then it's looks aesthetically pleasing and natural.
Honestly, this is totally perfect for me. I hate how big phones have gotten these days and I always dreamed of a tiny fully featured phone without a lot of cut corners. And well, here we are. Im totally buying this whenever it comes out
I have a 6.3 inch phone for my daily driver and an older 4.5 inch phone as an emergency backup. I can't tell you how good it feels to use the smaller phone after extensively using the heavier, larger phone for weeks. So no, I wouldn't mind a small android.
Your editing and cinematic skills along with your communication skills are underrated You should definitely try your hands on different types of contents
The fingerprint sensor works great, it's just that you have to double tap it, i guess it's a security feature. The only down side so far is the battery time, moderate use will last you the day, but charge time is very fast so a power-bank in the bag and you are fine. Use this as my only phone now. Thought typing would be an problem but fund that it´s about as easy as a standard sized phone.
Disagree.. I have used my Jelly Pro as my primary phone for 2 years now. Your right I dont need Android10 but would never go for a "repurposed phone" or a dumb phone. Voice to text is what makes this work well. Perfect for someone who hates big phones.. doesn't like talking on any phone and only is reachable by text!
I have a VERY specific use case for this as an engineer. We have to take geotagged photos everytime we're in the field, having to carry around a gigantic phone in the heat for hours on end while taking photos every five minutes is exhausting for the arms, having one with a dedicated action button and is the size of your palm that weighs practically nothing is a dream come true for me. Definitely looking out for this one
I'd love it as my work phone. 80% usage is just having to carry it around waiting for my boss to phone me. 20% of texting work colleagues and 10% for those very occasional multimedia usage when I just HAVE TO ( according to my boss) read that email NOW rather than waiting for me to get to my desk And even better. Because my work (my boss) mandates that I carry it around at all times, it's small enough that I can hide it in my trouser pocket and forget I'm even carrying it without having to adjust my crutch every time I sit down.
The original Jelly/Jelly pro was shipped with Android 6, but later updated to 7 and finally 8.1. It also got security updates every few months. They were more committed to this than some much more premium brands. So I trust them not to drop the ball this time as well. The reason why I use that phone: running. Other phones are way too big and heavy to be carried when running in my opinion. But I need to have a phone with me, especially to meet with friends (running group). Since almost everyone in Germany now uses WhatsApp instead of SMS, a 'dumb phone' would be quite useless. There even is an optional band allowing you to wear the jelly on your wrist like a watch. Obviously this isn't my only device.
It's like a smart walkman bro for all the music heads out there hope you can relate to it, personal opinion i wanted a feature rich "smart walkman"😂 and obviously this cannot be a good device to binge movies but if you're using this as a walkman ,oh boy it's so perfect 💫💯
7:47 small-phones-doesn't-mean-bad-phones represent. This thing reminds me of early iPhone competitors, that was the perfect size for anyone without basketball hands and bottomless pockets. iPhone SE and Sony's Compacts were an acceptable substitute for a long time but new SE is huge again and Sony seems to be moving on entirely, so this is the perfect time for this to come out and save people who don't appreciate shovel-sized phones.
I am the odd one out because I am not trying to minimize my phone usage, I just want something that fits better in my hand. Im tired of the wrist pain and sewing deeper pockets into all my jackets for a large screen I don't really need (I have a tablet and a laptop if I want a big screen) but I also don't want to sacrifice a bunch of features for an overpriced "dumb phone". That hotkey on the side is super appealing for a quick flashlight too! I dont even mind that the camera is not fantastic.
Having used 1 of these as my sole phone for more than a year and a half now, I'm well and truly smitten!! Long may Unihertz continue to make ever improving Jelly phones! 😃🤞🏻
I used to watch a LOT of MrWhosTheBoss but I really appreciate your less over the top presentation. I’ve switched to you. You don’t assume I need graphics and constant cuts every fraction of a second to hold attention. You appreciate the viewer and it shows.
I've been using this phone for a couple weeks now and love it. So easy to use. I've always been extremely picky when it comes to phones. This one fits my everyday life and is not bulky at all. I can text pretty easily you just have to get used to it. I just like how compact it is.
I think if I were to explain this phone to anyone I would point them straight to this review: _"Absurd? Yes. But enjoyable? Also yes."_ Keep up the good work MrMobile.
Been using this as my main phone for a few weeks and love it. It's got a few irritating quirks but this is the best tiny phone on the market right now, I have the palm and unihertz atom and this one blows them both away.
I am also a runner and currently using my iphone 12 mini which is great as long as you got enough pockets. In summer time you want something like the Jelly 2 which seems to fit in the smallest pockets possible. The lte apple watch is of course an alternative but with all the problems transferring ebooks and music offline, bad battery and bad connectivity at times not the best choice.
Michael F., I spotted the Xperia 1 ii on this video, can we get a hint of when the review is coming? Really looking forward for your review to make a decision, that's in fact the only one I'm waiting (I've seen like 20 reviews already)... FYI this Jelly 2 video was really good too, I signed up to get one when it comes out!
Emergencies • When you need to: -record videos, voice logs or take pictures -make calls, messages or send emails Traveling •The small size and light weight helps to: -avert the eyes of thieves, pickpockets... -save space -save the battery life of your main phone by using it as an alternative such as when: *you want to listen to music *you want use a flashlight *you need to check your schedule for the whole day More like a business/travel phone alternative
I always love your reviews, your style and voice are brilliant, im buying the Jelly 2, iv been using my note 8 for 3+ years now but I'm just tired of lugging it around, yes its a brilliant phone but I'm happy to loose some of the benefits to enable me to gain some of the freedom of a small and light device, tech should be getting smaller and blending into our lives not expanding and taking over it. Keep up the good work my friend and all the best for the new year from over the pond in the uk
Finally! A phone I can honestly envision myself using. Alas, I have tall hands with long fingers. I could see you struggling to using it in the B-roll, best efforts though. I think I might succumb and just get a Pixel 3 or 3a. Small but just large enough to tolerate.
Thanks for the review. Actually, this is EXACTLY the type of phone I want. It looks easy to carry yet it will keep me connected by text, email and phone. I love the simplicity of flip phones, but as a college professor I need to be accessible by email unfortunately. I don't use social media anymore, so really I just want a phone that can handle group texts, email from multiple accounts, access to google assistant for voice to text, and one that is small enough for slipping into a pocket so I can forget about it. In fact, the small screen is a plus, as it will encourage me to stay off the phone as much as possible. Thanks again for the review. Doc
My phone!! Yeah, 2 years ago, i saw this video, and a few months later, i bought the phone. I think this thing gets kind of a bad rep from most reviewers. It’s a great size for my hands, almost nothing is too hard to see or touch. Typing on it can take a few days to adjust to, but after that, there’s nothing stopping you from using it as a memo-pad for late-night ideas and dream journalling, like me. I actually really like gaming on it, too. I play Arena of Valor and Brawl Stars on it every once in a while, i find no problems with it. And it’s practically built for Soul of Eden and Mushroom Wars. I also use emulators on it. Yeah, up to PSP. It works great. Yeah, some PSP games don’t run well, but most do, and all other systems run perfectly. Using touch controls can be awkward for these sometimes, so i bought 8bitdo’s Zero 2, which is actually smaller than the phone’s screen. I have the unofficial smallest gaming set-up ever, and it’s really fun to use. In my opinion, this phone isn’t limited by it’s size, it’s bettered by it. I hate phablets. Even google pixels are too big for my taste. This phone? Perfect. Obviously, research the hell out of the market before you buy, but i highly recommended it if you have small hands.
My phone's last security path was in May of this year. Whether that is good or bad, I don't know, but I hope it helps you decide. Also nothing on Android 11 yet, as far as I can see.
This would be awesome for music and handheld emulation. I wish more phones would have extra hardware buttons. It would make apps like Button Mapper INSANE.
Typing on this is fine. If they make the screen bigger I wouldn’t buy it. If you want a bigger screen buy another brand. This is marketed for those that don’t. I don’t understand how some people on here are saying it is too small? Is the concept that this isn’t for you too difficult to understand? Stop asking them to make it bigger cause you sound stupid asking for a bigger “mini” screen. They found a sweet spot. I lose some texts that people send me, which is actually not too bad of a con because people text way too much anyways and it’s irritating. Just bought this phone 1wk ago and can’t wait for the 3! ❤
i think the idea is that being small IS the primary selling point. i used to have an LG Optimus V when android was still kind of new and budget meant BUDGET, it only had a 3.2 inch screen on it but it never stopped me from watching youtube, taking and touching up photos, running emulators, very quickly typing messages using swype (it takes practice but you get pretty good), having a custom launcher and all of the stuff i do on my modern phone. the only thing holding me back then was the specs and this doesn't have those problems, so i'm sure the kind of people who hate the phablet wave and miss the compactness of flip phones will adore this.
People with SMALL HANDS and the gender whose clothing is made with RIDICULOUSLY TINY POCKETS are some people who might have been waiting for a phone like this! Typing on a keyboard this small is NOT difficult for me, but typing on an SE 2020 is terrible because it's just too big and wants me to flail my fingers PAST the keys I'm aiming for when I swipe, which just isn't easily feasible. Comparing how you don't like the pictures of this one is like me complaining for you about how the google whatever won't fit in your pocket -- different priorities. This is almost my dream phone.
I just got the Jelly 2, which has been updated to android 11. I like this tiny phone with nfc and a fingerprint sensor because, while I want to use various apps for their functionality, like tap to pay, using a store's app, and looking up a bit of need to know info now and then while on the go and getting notifications I want, and taking an occasional photo, I don't need or want a large and/or expensive media power house phone. For typing on such a small screen, I use the compact/abridged qwerty keyboard mode of the smart keyboard soft keyboard, similar to the blackberry pearl keypad, which I'm using to type this post on my Jelly 2. There are also other compact keyboards, like the message ease keyboard, that are better for small screens too and the swipe typing on some keyboards could help too. My only problem with it has been store apps that let you scan barcodes of their merchandise or QR codes often won't scan the barcode/QRcode. As for why this phone would have such high specs despite it's small screen, some apps, and even android 11, may not run at all or without issues without higher end hardware. Finally, once I get the arm band for the Jelly 2, It can also be a smartwatch :)

This is very true
All the complaints are *positives* from the perspective of breaking phone addiction. It's a modern and functional device, usable for necessity, uncomfortable for extended use.
This is exactly why I’m interested. I need some Android apps, but want to make general SM, web, & RUclips use not great. My 21 yr old son bought a Cat S22, which has similar usability characteristics, but the Cat’s chunky ruggedness is more than I want. This seems like a sweet spot.
"using a phone this small is inherently uncomfortable"
that's the market. I'm looking to stop spending so much time on useless apps and spend more time on better ones. So I'll stop endlessly scrolling on Twitter or IG and spend my time doing something that makes me feel better about myself
I feel you bro. That’s why I’m here. I’m tired of wasting my time on my phone.

Perfect for me as thanks to it's small size I'll likely not be tempted into downloading games or binge watching RUclips videos due to it being uncomfortable. That was my exact thought. I had an Xperia Mini Pro that was my favourite phone until it got stolen... And by then it was out of stock.
I wanted it to have a dpad and physical keys, I helps navigate in a small screen, like the Galaxy 5/Europa, man, I loved that phone.
@@xmlthegreat yeah I had one too, I really liked it. Although without the keyboard I think it would have been the worst phone I've owned.
Yeah this style of phone reminds me of my old LG Rumor 2
@@Narvie04 but without the front keypad. Was that LG touch screen?
Let's compare:
iPhone SE (2020): 5.45 inches tall
iPhone SE (2016): 4.87
Xperia XZ1 Compact: 5.08
Xperia XZ2 Compact: 5.31
I would consider the latter to be _the absolute maximum size a small phone should be_ , and it's in fact the one I own.
You could just buy an old 4-inch iPhone like the 2016 iPhone SE, or iPhone 5S.

S4 mini gang where are you at?
well no, even the first iphone in 2007 had a bigger screen than this
Now they're calling it a microphone 🎤
Well not really. My Xperia X10 Mini had a 2.5 inch screen. The regular X10 was well over 4 inches at that point I’m pretty sure. And the next generation Xperia Z from 2012 or 2013 had a 5 inch screen. Yes phones got bigger but let’s not exaggerate like that
How the time has changed
The contents of Mr. Mobile YT channel really separate him from other reviewer. Unique contents for sure. Kudos!

@@justsomeinternetuser got it directly from the Unihertz website.
It's still going well.
Giant comments how long did it took to write.

Yes! Yes, yes... I agree with you 100%. I'm searching for a replacement for my Sony Xperia X Compact... and so reluctant to go iPhone (who seems to be the only brand at the moment offering a Premium Compact!). I have a 6.3 inch phone for my daily driver and an older 4.5 inch phone as an emergency backup. I can't tell you how good it feels to use the smaller phone after extensively using the heavier, larger phone for weeks. So no, I wouldn't mind a small android.
but this is too tiny compared to your "4.5 inch phone"
4:32 damn thats a bigger battery than the iPhone SE
For a 4th of the price
Your editing and cinematic skills along with your communication skills are underrated
You should definitely try your hands on different types of contents
Hmm. Maybe Michael just has huge hands? It can't be that sma-
*[sees the shot of it inside the arch of his headphones]*
Oh good lord that is tiny.
it's just amazing how far we've come in technology that we can get 6gb of ram in such a small device, and a fingerprint, and a headphone jack!
I'd love it as my work phone. 80% usage is just having to carry it around waiting for my boss to phone me. 20% of texting work colleagues and 10% for those very occasional multimedia usage when I just HAVE TO ( according to my boss) read that email NOW rather than waiting for me to get to my desk
And even better. Because my work (my boss) mandates that I carry it around at all times, it's small enough that I can hide it in my trouser pocket and forget I'm even carrying it without having to adjust my crutch every time I sit down.
@@catdemon922 And according to him I'm *still* not working hard enough
Simply put this phone makes a phone a tool again instead of turning its owner into the tool
6:59 Patiently waiting for the Xperia 1 mark 2 review 🙂
It's like a smart walkman bro for all the music heads out there hope you can relate to it, personal opinion i wanted a feature rich "smart walkman"😂 and obviously this cannot be a good device to binge movies but if you're using this as a walkman ,oh boy it's so perfect 💫💯
my thoughts as well...coupled with an arm band, this would make for great hikes, walks jogging etc...play hi res audio files. What's not to like...
I was just thinking the same thing! Use it as a streaming walkman. Hell, I wouldn't even pop a sim card into it, just an microSD and wifi.
If the DAC is quality, that was my first idea. It begs to be your little music player. Hell, even if the DAC is bad it's alright for bluetooth.
I'm definitely looking at to order this thing. Mainly for music. Bluetooth my earbuds n throw this little thing in my pocket n keep going
@@Chance57 it has usb-c, you could go with a little dongle DAC and you'd have a very nice portable audio rig
Shovel😂
"the new SE is huge again" lmao that thing is so tiny, it's not even 5"
@@Ignacio.Romero I remember when 4.2" was considered bloody massive.
"find a barber that's actually open" if you actually found one let me know!!
Most of the barbers around me in the STL area are open lol
@@ther3aper561 He filmed this a while ago cause he got an haircut.
Like he even needs a haircut
Home haircuts FTW!!!
Just stay inside your house for lord sake
That's the most effort I've ever seen for a sponsor.
booptidyscoop ya..gotta appreciate that
The camera is actually pretty good to my eyes, very nostalgic
I used to watch a LOT of MrWhosTheBoss but I really appreciate your less over the top presentation. I’ve switched to you. You don’t assume I need graphics and constant cuts every fraction of a second to hold attention. You appreciate the viewer and it shows.
I've been using this phone for a couple weeks now and love it. So easy to use. I've always been extremely picky when it comes to phones. This one fits my everyday life and is not bulky at all. I can text pretty easily you just have to get used to it. I just like how compact it is.
I'd buy it just because it's tiny. I love collecting tiny, functioning devices.
I think if I were to explain this phone to anyone I would point them straight to this review: _"Absurd? Yes. But enjoyable? Also yes."_ Keep up the good work MrMobile.
i seriously admire your love for quirky phones. like the doug demiro of the phone world. keep up the good work michael :)
kobalt Gotta love Doug Demuro. Him, watchjrgo, hoovie, samcrac, and carwizard could keep me entertained for months on end
Been using this as my main phone for a few weeks and love it. It's got a few irritating quirks but this is the best tiny phone on the market right now, I have the palm and unihertz atom and this one blows them both away.
what is irritating about it? if you dont mind me asking
Aside from the camera, this tiny phone has better specs than my 2019 mid-low ranger Huawei Y7 🤣
Emergencies
• When you need to:
-record videos, voice logs or take pictures
-make calls, messages or send emails
Traveling
•The small size and light weight helps to:
-avert the eyes of thieves, pickpockets...
-save space
-save the battery life of your main phone by using it as an alternative such as when:
*you want to listen to music
*you want use a flashlight
*you need to check your schedule for the whole day
More like a business/travel phone alternative
I always love your reviews, your style and voice are brilliant, im buying the Jelly 2, iv been using my note 8 for 3+ years now but I'm just tired of lugging it around, yes its a brilliant phone but I'm happy to loose some of the benefits to enable me to gain some of the freedom of a small and light device, tech should be getting smaller and blending into our lives not expanding and taking over it. Keep up the good work my friend and all the best for the new year from over the pond in the uk
This channel deserves atleast 5 million subs. This guy puts a lot of effort in his videos. All his reviews are unbiased.
6:58 I see you Xperia ii 😏
Finally! A phone I can honestly envision myself using. Alas, I have tall hands with long fingers. I could see you struggling to using it in the B-roll, best efforts though. I think I might succumb and just get a Pixel 3 or 3a. Small but just large enough to tolerate.
Jelly is so good they actually made a Jelly 2.
When are Cake 2 and Pizza 2 coming out?
Wrong type of jelly :D
"Text is so small that reading it while walking is difficult." Good, everyone needs to get this phone.
What about software updates? I really want this phone but this topic makes me fell a little bit sceptical.
My phone's last security path was in May of this year. Whether that is good or bad, I don't know, but I hope it helps you decide. Also nothing on Android 11 yet, as far as I can see.
@@bittsystar276 of course it helps. Security patches are important for me. Maybe they are not so often but sound good for me. Thank you
@Casio Auditore I played Pokemon Go on it a while ago. Works fine. :)
GOOD NEWS! Just this morning, a system wide update came out, including an upgrade to Android 11 and a security patch!
This would be awesome for music and handheld emulation. I wish more phones would have extra hardware buttons. It would make apps like Button Mapper INSANE.
Somehow he reminds me of Tony Stark( Robert Downey Jr.)
Like when he asks Google Assistant to find a barber for him which is actually open
Yeah, me too
Same
Typing on this is fine.
"Using a phone this small is inherently uncomfortable" - Try using it with one hand instead of two, duh :P
Even this smol boi has more RAM than my PC.
True :(
They managed to pack those specs into that chassis, and that's pretty great. Even if the screen is microscopic.
unihertz have been making some solid devices tbh, hope they stick around
People with SMALL HANDS and the gender whose clothing is made with RIDICULOUSLY TINY POCKETS are some people who might have been waiting for a phone like this! Typing on a keyboard this small is NOT difficult for me, but typing on an SE 2020 is terrible because it's just too big and wants me to flail my fingers PAST the keys I'm aiming for when I swipe, which just isn't easily feasible. Comparing how you don't like the pictures of this one is like me complaining for you about how the google whatever won't fit in your pocket -- different priorities. This is almost my dream phone.
You should review the Jelly star when it comes out
Watching this on my jelly 2 so far so good
7:00 Sony Xperia 1 II review?? 👀
" I struggle to envision the kind of person who should buy it "
Us, who are stuck between either tiny phones and 6 inch bricks that we have to carry on a daily basis, yeah, my money will go to the tiny.
6:59 Sony Xperia II... review coming soon?
