My first video from Michael was his review of the LG G Flex 2, on my G Flex 2. By far one of my most favorite phones that I’ve had the pleasure of owning, before it started to boot loop and I switched to the iPhone 8+. Sucks to see LG leave the mobile market.
I'll always miss LG. The G6 and V20 were amazing phones and surprisingly the latter was easy to repair when I needed it to be. They where actually just called "GoldStar" here in the west in the beginning😋 I had a TV from them many years ago. But many people confuse their slogan to be the name. "LG" means "Lucky GoldStar" while "Life's Good" is just their slogan.
@@Oystein87 Yes, I know! They were founded as the Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Company in 1947. "Lak Hui" is pronounced as "lucky" in Korean. In 1958 they founded GoldStar Co. Ltd., another company strictly for plastics products. Then in 1983, the two companies merged to form Lucky-GoldStar. In 1995 the merged company was renamed to LG Corporation, and the tagline "Life's Good" (from the company's initials) first started being used by them.
Watching this makes me sad. This was one of the few companies that gave me hope for a more competitive smartphone market. With less competition innovation in smartphones outside of foldables will be nonexistant. 😔But like you said let it be a lesson to all those new companies. You hear me one plus!

The second that Samsung became the “defacto” android brand after the galaxy S7 and note success, LG had to tread carefully. Unfortunately they seemed to have ideas too bold for the tech of the time. Rip LG i will miss you buddy.

@@wj427 Same. Always preferred LG's design and hardware features, it was one of my favorite OEMs. Too bad everything was poorly executed. Phones had bad software and manufacturing defects. My Nexus 5X, for example, had an incredible camera for the price, a great fingerprint sensor and was always updated, giving it was a Nexus phone. But it went into that bootloop madness after a year! I lost all my money in a single year! My previous Nexus 5 was a great, good-loking phone with poor battery life and camera. The G series and the Velvet were some of the best-looking phones around, the V series had incredible phones with no compromisses. LG did great audio and video, too! But one couldn't risk buying an LG phone with no software support and no assurance that the hardware was gonna last for years, sadly.
2015 and the Snapdragon 808 sealed a lot of phone makers fates. LG, Blackberry, HTC, Motorola, even Sony, all tripped and died as a result of Qualcomm's miserable, half hearted efforts. That's not all that went wrong but it definitely helped rush them all to their timely or untimely ends

Thanks LG for providing your costumers not only “fun” phones, but also giving us fond memories of it.
"Windows Phone's failure as a platform is a story for another time" I would REALLY love to see a video on that! (Personally, I hated the Windows Phone OS)
Windows Mobile - specifically W10M - is still my favorite handset OS ever developed. As poor as the app support was, the software was a dream and the phones themselves were either super interesting (in the case of the Lumia 1020) or beasts for their time (the Lumia 1520 and the 950 phones). The modern OS duopoly is awful.

@Mandie Shumway one plus, vivo, ippo all under BBK, also Motorola is lenovo, and lenovo is making other phone brands as well. And do not forget, huawei still works where Google influences are far and beyond
@Mandie Shumway Uh, no. The S20FE cost OnePlus a large market share when it was released. The current top market shares are Samsung and Apple, in both sales and handsets. There's a reason why Apple and Samsung can still sell when they take things off their phones (Samsung temoed expandable storage and the charging brick from the S21 lineup, yet it broke pre-order records).

LG is truly a company that leaves a bittersweet taste in my mouth. I grew up with my babushka relatives owning LG clamshells before I picked up my LG V10. From a usage perspective, it was my favorite phone I have ever owned. That said, just nine months into ownership I experienced a bootloop and lost everything on the phone. I truly believe that LG would still be here if not for the bootloop issues. I know myself, as well as a few friends, never would have bought anything other than an LG had our G4s and V10s not bootlooped.
I remember on the G2 they had the Vienna Boys Choir sing the ringtones and it's that attention to detail and making a phone unique that I live for. You'll be missed dearly!
From "Life's Good" to "Life was Good" in 2021.....RIP LG phones, you were truly the most unique phone maker ever and the most daring when it came to push out and make new things....Thank you

Never owned an LG but this makes me sad. Looks like losing a good friend. I still have hope that you will return with a banger once more and delight us all some day!
What a phenomenal video. A lot of big truths in this. I'm looking forward to the LG Chocolate video. I had the Voyager when it was in it's prime. THAT was a great phone along with the chocolate. Everyone in my school district had it. Only a select few had iPhones at the time.
I remember being on the playground when the LG chocolate was the "it" phone, "she's got an LG chocolate" this, "I'm getting an LG chocolate for my birthday" that - I wasn't into tech as much back then so I was just thinking "huh must taste pretty good". Really was my first taste of phones not only being something you'd want to carry, but a fashion choice in itself. So they've stuck around in my mind for that.
I'm still proudly rocking my LG G6 from almost 6 years ago. The phone is a BEAST. It still runs like a "shinkansen"... the only problem I have is with the battery... Sometimes, it randomly, turns itself off when the battery is below 25-20 percent and it just happens to get a call... I disagree with whatever most tech reviwers say. The phone's demise can be connected to the times when they started having these weird experiments with modular bs, swappable covers instead of focusing on whatever made them strong in the market.
@@Phrancis5 But it would still work today even if you could not replace the battery🤷♂️ But FYI: All phones can get battery replacements.. But not all can be done by you at home without risking to break the backside..😝

I always had an LG phone in my pocket for every MCU movie I saw in the theater. I had an LG V40 when I saw Avengers: Endgame on opening night in a packed theater. I loved LG phones and it's sad to see the end of them. RIP
I've had the G4 and currently still use my V2O. Been using it for about 4 years now. I'm sad that the next time I get a new phone, it won't be an LG...
My first phone was an LG Optimus of some kind, and my first nice phone was an LG G3. Currently rocking an LG G8, and my next phone is going to be an LG G8X. I've had LG phones in my pocket for a long time, and I've disliked almost every non-LG phone I've used.
I remember back in 2017, the LG V30 and the Pixel 3 were the only two android smartphones that I considered to replace my iPhone 7 with, sadly, none of those phones were available in my country, so I followed the masses and bought an iPhone 8 Plus, which was an outstanding device, but I admit, that sky blue or raspberry LG V30 was something I would have loved to carry with me everyday for a full year 🥲 so long LG, it was fun to see you around 👋🏻
This seems like Michael's funeral speech for LG He was a good guy. Did alot of good things. Influenced alot of people. But in the end things turned out be not as good. May he rest in peace.
From the Optimus G, to the Flex 2, to the G6 and V30, I was there to buy them all on the first day of release. The V30 is still one of the best cell phones ever in my opinion. I'm going to be so lost without them (Typing this on a Note 20U lol), but they will be back. I bet my life on it. When I was working at a cell phone retailer, I was the top selling LG phone rep in Eastern Canada. Because of this, LG treated me so well, I really admire them.
I bought an LG Velvet 3 months ago and it was such a great deal in terms of money, taking in account its performance, cameras, safety (military shock certificate, IP68/69 water and dust protection, OLED screen) and its super design. I was quite wondering when I bought it, how does LG make money on phones if a similar model from Apple or Samsung costs even 50% more...it seems that they were just present in the market and their great phones never made profit. Sadly, Sony will have the same faith if it doesn't change its phone marketing strategy.
still hits hard. the G2 was my favorite phone i've ever owned. so fun and ahead of the curve for what it was. they dared to be different while everyone else just stayed with the status quo.
I have a drawer full of old LG phones, they made some of the best phones back in the day, I loved my Voyager. The G6 was my last Android phone. I could see them coming back one day though.
It is a sad story. Solid smartphones, had some issues like every other brand, but they did things their own way. How many more "gamechanging" things would LG come up with if they didn't disappeare? How many cool ideas like the Wing? It's sad to think we will never know. Surely a special brand with unique approach. Farewell, LG.
The Nexus 5 was my daily driver for nearly three years......LG’s hardware with google’s software.....it was AN AMAZING PHONE! Since then I’ve used both the iPhone and the pixel ....but I miss my Nexus soo much......God that was a Great phone!
This sort of reminds me of the loss of Jibo, only LG is a far larger company. I still feel sad knowing that another player in this competitive segment is now gone even though I've never owned an LG device.
I had vivid memories of the Brand Feel in love with a friend's G2, bought my first smartphone a V10. Went to the G4 and now on a V35. I love the phones for what they do. Sony also does it. Xperia 1mk2 and Xperia 5mk2 both have headphone jacks and even a camera button to boot. The new X1/5 will also have the headphone jack as well.
Fun fact: the first review I've ever seen of Michael was his review of the Flex 1 on my Flex 1. I felt your disappointment when it's sequel didn't live up to your expectations. Thanks for this awesome tribute, Michael!
My first video from Michael was his review of the LG G Flex 2, on my G Flex 2. By far one of my most favorite phones that I’ve had the pleasure of owning, before it started to boot loop and I switched to the iPhone 8+. Sucks to see LG leave the mobile market.
I remember when i was so obsessed with Lg G flex and G Flex 2...i just keep seeing his videos
That's quite a Flex you got there.
I'll always miss LG. The G6 and V20 were amazing phones and surprisingly the latter was easy to repair when I needed it to be. One of my first phones was a flip phone of theirs from cingular wireless and I felt so cool having it. That was the thing about LG; you FELT cool having one. Even if no one else thought so. It made you feel special. Good times. Even now, in 2022, I still wish we had a sequel to the Wing.
We can't deny that LG was the first manufacturer that really went against the grain as far as phone design and innovation goes. RIP and yes I still miss my LG Choco back in the day
From "Lucky Goldstar" to "Life's Good" to "Last Gasp". You will be missed
I didn't know that's what LG meant
They where actually just called "GoldStar" here in the west in the beginning😋 I had a TV from them many years ago.
But many people confuse their slogan to be the name.
"LG" means "Lucky GoldStar" while "Life's Good" is just their slogan.
@@Oystein87 I had a vcr of theirs for ages
@@Oystein87 Yes, I know! They were founded as the Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Company in 1947. "Lak Hui" is pronounced as "lucky" in Korean. In 1958 they founded GoldStar Co. In 1995 the merged company was renamed to LG Corporation, and the tagline "Life's Good" (from the company's initials) first started being used by them.

The second that Samsung became the “defacto” android brand after the galaxy S7 and note success, LG had to tread carefully. Unfortunately they seemed to have ideas too bold for the tech of the time. Rip LG i will miss you buddy.
Fir me it was all the software issues. Nobody want to drop a load if money and have meh software or as I experienced boot loop madness and they did nothing for me so I went to Samsung and I was glad I did.
LG is the reason Samsung had to step it up with the cameras etc in the S6 and S7 series..😝

It’s crazy, I remember a time when I was in the Philippines and my eldest sister accidentally dropped my other sister’s LG phone in the sea…we had to go get it…and the crazy thing was, that phone still survived 😂.
When I arrived in America, my very first phone is an LG G6… my brother (who’s now in the military and is married) gave it to me, I still have it and use it (despite not connecting it on a phone carrier).

I remember being on the playground when the LG chocolate was the "it" phone, "she's got an LG chocolate" this, "I'm getting an LG chocolate for my birthday" that - I wasn't into tech as much back then so I was just thinking "huh must taste pretty good".
