Former Labour and Respect Party MP George Galloway has become the frontrunner in the Rochdale parliamentary by-election, running as a candidate for The Workers Party of Britain.
The UK’s response to Israel’s assault on Gaza was at the forefront of Galloway’s campaign as he addressed the audience at Wardleworth Community Centre. During his speech, he highlighted the potential conflict of interest for MPs associated with the Labour Friends of Israel group, including Keir Starmer, who he argues are advocating for Israel for their personal gain.

Yes, the funding of MPs as well as "other payments" are a matter of smoke and mirrors.
But like the very shady issue of MPs expenses, strangely, none of the MPs ever stand up in the House and demand a public inquiry to be launched to provide reasons why the funding streams should be closed down.
It doesn't happen because they are ALL just pigs at the same trough - regardless of which party they represent.
I've never been a fan of George Galloway but I'm actually glad he won that election.

Then they all got a good laugh that he went on big brother and pretended to be a cat as a task or something. He is very close with a lot of Arab leaders though so with the mistrust and islamaphobia some also find that 'dodgy' even though I don't think they fund him. Not a standard they hold for closeness to Israeli leaders however. 🤷♀️

He was basically a propagandist for RT news every evening brushing off genuine concerns as project fear etc… he is not in an economic position to be affected like millions have been (including myself) due to the lack of EU funding to the North East etc… I’ve been anti-EU for a long time, but it woke me up to understanding how all of these celebrity figures are just playing us really including him. I agree with his views on foreign policy etc, but I don’t trust him anymore. I even donated to his 2019 election campaign. There are other things too based on his twitter account and some of the things he’s said.

I dislike Galloway for a few reasons, but his longstanding advocacy for Palestine is to be admired and respected.
I’m the same, agree with and admire him in some regards but other things (eg getting behind the “Better Together” scaremongering campaign during the Scottish Independence referendum) put me off. A guy who wants independence for every other nation on the planet apart from his own it seems…

Galloway was a Labour party politician for many years but he was on the left wing of that party and was only ever a back bench MP as a result. He left Labour in about 2005 because he disliked Labour's then leader Tony Blair. He's been on the outside of the political scene in the UK ever since, fronting the Stop the War coalition for a few years and more recently heading up his own party.
