- Maruti Grand Vitara Hybrid vs Hyundai Creta diesel comparison - With uncertainties looming around diesel vehicles in India, many people are now eyeing at electric hybrids and electric vehicles. With the launch of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder Hybrid versions, competiiton in the already-competitive compact SUV segment has become even more fierce as both the hybrid cars pose a big threat to the segment best-seller Hyundai Creta. For people not in the know, Hyundai and Kia sell almost 50% diesel variants of Creta and Seltos, as there are no other diesel options at all. And since Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is claimed to offer 28kmpl mileage, we thought of putting it against the Creta diesel which too is known for its punchy performance and mileage. Guys , We have to keep in mind that hyundai creta diesel is a manual whereas grand vitara an automatic(cvt)

Bhai Hybrid cars have no gears they run on Atkinson cycle So there is no reason to bring automatic and manual in a discussion. All hybrid cars are automatic only. 😅
I wasn't expecting creta to lift the trophy. That was a good surprise and great content
Vitara is good in the city and it'll consume less petrol it will give milega around 26 km/l in the city

Unfortunately the approach taken is impractical and doesn't answer our questions. Had posted an earlier comment mentioning the test is insufficient as the distance of 100km was too short to guage a mileage test and also the speed at which the vehicles were driven weren't disclosed. This was for a purpose as it is reported by many that the strong hybrids loses efficiency beyond 80kmph similar to a pure EV. To my dismay the channel has reverted with an impulsive answer accusing me of requesting them to drive at 150kmph 😀.
Two major points make this comparison not so useful...
1. Creta is manual. Try the AtT and see the mileage drop.
2. Hybrids are more fuel efficient in city which is their strong point.
Exactly, it doesn't makes sense to compare cvt with manual. If I am considering cvt there I surely will prefer creta diesel at. Then grand vitara is an absolute winner both in price and mileage
Also, I'm sure Diesel maintenance will be much higher than Hybrid once it crosses 50000 kms. As much as I like Gagan Choudhary this comparison doesn't make a lot of sense. Autocar has done a proper comparison with Creta CVT, Seltos Diesel AT and Vitara hybrid. That video seemed a bit more logical.

Conclusion creta is still king .
Creta just needs some more improvement like all wheel drive features and some improvement in build quality . Else no doubt in this price range no one can give that premiumness , features , ride quality , stability , power , fun that creta offers .
Poor brakes poor suspension light steering higher on maintenance……i have being a old user of hyundai from first gen creta and nios also have breeza and altroz currently but i never ever felt the ride comfort in hyundai cars

Thanks for sharing good information around these cars, There is one more crucial factor to consider is , diesel car’s life in Delhi-NCR is 10 years , some restrictions also imposed during abrupt hike in pollution as well , but hybrid can be used for 15 years and without any such limitations .

Dear Gaganji and Yogiji. much much apricated your this work (Off course I do watch almost all your content) I must say this has cleared all my doubts about both the cars. I am in the process of selecting either of these and test drive both, where I find more edge, features in Creta. ( I like alcazar too) Even I am little worried about future of diesel in India, though we have BS-6 engine, add blue and all that, and every manufacturer has diesel vehicle in there range, mainly Indian co. Tata n Mahindra, where RTO passing is till 15 years, so I feel diesel will be there for sure. secondly depending on individuals preference one can go either of one. You both were in great sport mode and made this video very very informative, too the point, and close to some once choice. great work. keep it up. with Love.

Diesel engines have Higher Torque advantage (250 nm in Seltos/Creta) which gives more pulling power at much lower rpm

Fantastic video , but if we consider the diesel car maintenance, creta would be more expensive to maintain.
As vitara in this process would have added some extra km's with help of regeneration, those would be utilised in city traffic. So actual mileage would be higher i think.
I personally think with full loaded car, creta diesel will be much more economical.
I still regret buying a venue petrol turbo!

Diesel is always overall king, just hope they don't ban it! 3 cylinder hybrid is headache to drive due to noise and lack of performance!
In top cities, you can only run diesel cars for 10years.

If you live outside Delhi ncr and don’t have the compulsion of 10 year then there is not a competition. Creta is the car for most people.

If you drive in bumper to bumper than the Vitara will give 2-3km more per litre as it switches to EV mode more often there then highway.

Good review, but please believe that creta that you are driving is manual and giving 22 kmpl while vitara is automatic... if u try creta automatic vs vitara automatic that would be the real comparison!! I am sure automatic creta will be less than 15kmpl
Well saving in per km running cost of Creta diesel will be offset by the higher service cost of the diesel as compared to a petrol hybrid. Hybrid eventually makes more sense.
Man please make comparison of rc 390 and rr310 along with milage test.......
They have redo because for fair comparison. The hybrid comes to live in city traffic like bumper to bumper and it is so great for idling for long hours in hot summer with full a/c on. If you ask me if they redo this test in city traffic the creta is will 11 km/hr and hybrid will still give you 20km/hr. Let say most people drive 30km in city 70km in highway. After avg creta will give me 17km/hr and hybrid will give me 21km/hr for the lifetime of the vehicle.
After test riding New Brezza, I find that its appearance is the only impressive aspect. However, what truly matters to me is what's under the hood, and in this regard, the diesel engine was enjoyable. Unfortunately, Maruti no longer delivers the same level of excitement as before. Moreover, I believe that the increasing price of cars is making them less of a value for money proposition.
Do this comparison again with Creta Diesel Automatic in City...and see the results....

Great comparison but in next couple of years diesel engines are going away with new pollution norms. So, Petrol Hybrid will better better alternate for diesel and also by that time hybrid will be mainstream and cost will also be less. And also Petrol cars have 15 years registration.

The problem is in metros. Otherwise diesals will stay , if you buy diesal car right now you can drive it for next 10 ,15 years easily in most states of India.
Diesals are more robust to Faults and engine failure. High torque gives a good driving experience.
I don't think so the comparison is correct based on short distance. For strong hybrid part of the fuel is used to charge the batteries. To accurately calculate mileage of stong hybrid it needs to run significant kilometres.
Creta base on road diesel 12.20 lacs
Vitara strong hybrid 19 lacs +
And Both giving almost same mileage
Creta manual se compare kar rhe h sab vitara automatic ko. Diesel ka maintain bhi jyada hota h petrol se and delhi me Diesel gadi 10 years se jyada nhi chala sakte. Petrol 15 years tab use kar sakte h and hybrid i think 20 years
Was the diesel an automatic? How about comparing city driving? We all know that for the Hybrid vehicle, mileage will be much greater in city than on highways. Hybrid is best in bumper 2 bumper city traffic, which you missed?
