Not criticizing your job, you did good showing what has to done, oil is ok on the capstan and pinch roller, but grease is best to lube the pivot for the pinch roller mechanism, that is what teac used from the factory but today there is much better grease that will not dry up and become sticky, Krytox is a good choice, use it once and you'll never have to do it again,,,

This is a game of patience, and learning (to a point) on the job.
That's some fan!, on what seems to be the main motor!

!!!!WARNING!!!! Video does not show re-installing insulators on power regulator board!! Very important to isolate the resistor or else smoke signals will be made. It’s better to leave the board connected and remove the two screws holding the POWER IN connector. Then it will not be in the way.

I was going to place the similar warning DONOT GROUND THE TRANSISTOR TO THE FRAME you will lose sound from both channels make sure you replace the clear plastic square that falls into your machine when you remove the screw and nut on that board IMPORTANT

This was excellent. I couldn't move the little PCB in the rear, as it is held on one side by a very small nut, and could not get it removed. But everything else was great. Thank you for the video.

Well I was going to give it a try but im a little worried of messing something up. Its good to see that it may only takes about an hour so perhaps i will have a shop do it for me. A shop up the road is $85 an hour. plus the taxi to get it there and back lol. Great video ,almost good enough for me to follow along with you but as someone pointed out there is a part perhaps missing. I wish it were as easy as spraying alcohol and adding oil.

Novel approach, removing the two screws instead of removing the solenoid. Was looking to see how you dealt with the pressure spring that linked the solenoid plunger to the pivoting arm that you removed that was held on with two screws. You didn't show taking those out or putting them back in, must have been a bitch, but without that critical step this how to is incomplete. I assume you put the transistor insulator back on the voltage regulator board that is mounted on the back of the unit. That is used for the bias oscillator. A note on cleaning of pinch rollers and handling of belts. If you don't have proper rubber cleaning chemicals then water is recommended and skin oils begin the deterioration of rubber belts so avoid handling then. But there appear to be dozens of opinions on this subject, but then I have bottles of Teac rubber cleaner. There's lots of reading material on this subject.

I'm working on a A3340S where the pinch roller solenoid won't even try to engage. The mechanism is free to move, but the solenoid is only getting 7.6 VDC and not strong enough to overcome the spring loading that pulls the roller away when stopping the tape.
I tried to pull a schematic off hifiengine, but their site is giving a 500 error when I hit download. Is that solenoid powered by 12 or 24 VDC? I really need a schematic to trace where the power comes from and why that circuit is soft.

it could be 12v or 24 volt either 7.6vdc sounds low to me likely the powersupply needs recaped ive never worked on that nore have i ever had that problem

@@axelthefoxytechworld8024 Ripple was my first thought. But there is negligable ripple across the solenoid. I finally procured a schematic and it is more complex than I expected. This solenoid may be in series with diodes and other solenoids depending on the state of various relays. Ugh. But thanks for confirming the voltage should be higher.

During FF/RW, is sounds as if the tape is very close to the playback head? I wonder if the tape lifter can be raised a little more?

Hello, you need to, replace you take up
Reel, brake then, it will stop, spilling the
    Tape.

    • @axelthefoxytechworld8024
      @axelthefoxytechworld8024  2 года назад +1

The reason it did that is cause the pinch roller wouldn't engage so I had to do it manually

I just flush with 99.9 anhydrous IPA to flush old grease into a cloth. Same with the solenoid. Add oil. Done.

Odd, you cleaned the old grease from the pinch roller assembly, but didn't re lubricate it before assembly
