I've come here because of Travis Raab's recent video you were in and really appreciated your guys conversation. It really inspired me when you said that often we can fix problems we encounter with these machines ourselves. I have a Teac 80-8 that has worked in my studio for quite a while though, I recently encountered an issue for which it has been previously serviced. I usually have the machine plugged into a power conditioner with some other studio equipment, in the instance of this issue I had it plugged directly into the wall outlet. I left the room with the machine on and working well (having just ran a couple takes). When I came back the VU meter lights were off and the transport no longer worked. FF, RW, and Play did not register at all when pressed. I thought it might have been a blown fuse but I really have no idea. I don't come here expecting your guidance but I would like to be able to give it my best shot if you have any. I also wanted to express my appreciation for your work and what you share. Thank you!
Hi DM, I have zero musical talent, but I'm hooked on Travis' videos. He always makes them so interesting and entertaining. Thanks for the kind words. I think you're on the right track suspecting a blown fuse. I don't have an 80-8 in the shop now, but the schematic shows a 3 amp fuse could be the culprit. Change it out with a 3 amp or smaller fuse and let me know how it goes. Peace

There's nothing wrong with buying garage sale machines,in fact,you have a better chance at seeing what the machine will and/or won't do...Great place to get the best deal too as most GSer's just want the item to disappear.
HI Matt, Great tutorial video! I have 2 A6300's and they are both great. Both need meter adjustment. For tape tension is there model of Tentelometer you would recommend over another one. I see there is a big descrepancy in pricing on ebay. Also any ideas for getting a Teac Test tape? Also difficult to get and expensive! finally I proboably need to breakdown and get an oscope and tone generator. Is ther a way I can do these tests without them? Any input would be appreciated! Everything works fine, but the autoreverse, when it has little tape at the beginning of it, slips through the pinch roller and goes to the inner roller part and comes off. I have tried to modify the calibration of the resistors, but it is still the same. What I can do? Thanks
Hi Matt, very impressive work indeed. I have an teac a-4010s that has an occasional wooshing sound on the line out. I'm worried its the transistors, as these are hard to get. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oiled The counter through the very little oil hole on back of counter. Rev ox trapes working out very well. I kept two of them. Will use the others for recording my music. Using the Rev ox A77 making a tape sounds great input and output cannot tell the difference Glad to have te A6300 Back Jeff

Hello Heidi, If you see any physical leakage from any of the caps, its generally a good idea to replace them all. Same holds if you observe fluctuations in power or experience poor fidelity. If your machine can be calibrated to specs, I'd hold off on the recap. That is, unless you're just itching for a re-cap project, (which I totally understand) then, by all means:-) I appreciate the inquiry, Heidi - take care
@@5thcomm Have you worked on the Teac A-7030Sl or GSL? i have the A7030SL and i was trying to remove the pinch roller plastic cover but it wont come off i was turning it counterclockwise (left) and it turns but it just wont come off am i turning it in the right direction? Hey Larry, the short answer is no. That said, if the tape is veering off track, you could incrementally increase backtension until the tape tracks properly. You run the risk of excessive tension, but the reward of enjoying your machine again, in spite of the potential damage, may be worth it to some. Just my opinion. Great question.
I noticed your BK Precision scope. I kept thinking to myself, "where have I seen one of those before?...". I have an Elenco branded model just like it. Now I'm wondering who really builds these scopes. Obviously, the same design was used under various brands.

Hi BD. Yeah, certainly an entry level generic scope. Perfect though for old analog equipment
