I didn't even know about the original ending until now. It's too bad they didn't use it it would have been so much better.

I personally think they should've kept what the ending was but cut out that last minute redemption thing in the credits. It would've made for a ballsy ending about not accomplishing this goal, but reminding everyone that we are still family and that we will bounce back from this setback. Then they go outside and that big reveal of thousands and thousands of fans cheering the muppets on reminding them that they haven't been forgotten about. That would probably have been the best ending to a family film I've ever seen. But Disney is pretty much like, "Nope. You don't get to have balls" and just had them have that last minute 100% happy ending.

DUDE THAT CUT ENDING IS SO *GOOD.* Statler and Waldorf throwing the Muppets a bone after all these years (haven’t watched the full show yet so I don’t know if it’s happened before- but it would’ve been a first for me!!!), backstory, redemption ark and _not_ brain damage for Richman, and it probably would’ve ended with the same pretty cool reprise too!!! WHY DISNEY, *OH MY GOSH WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY*

This movie has made me laugh and made me cry more than any other movie I’ve seen, and while no movie is without its flaws, I’m proud to say that The Muppets is among my favorite movies of all time. Great review :)

This is the movie that brought me back to the franchise full time.
But there’s one single problem with the plot. People have pointed out that in Its A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, Pepe had the Muppet Theatre turned into a National landmark. Meaning that it CANT be torn down and drilled for oil

To be honest, I still wish that the gang sang "If Just One Person" when they had thought the telethon failed. I don't know if the producers planned that song to be in the film but it could've been fitting as the characters were learning or relearning confidence and optimism. The song was even present in both the Sesame Street Christmas special and the Jim Henson tribute show. Though, I get why they didn't as that wouldn't be good timing as we all know there would be a happy ending.

It's likely due to the fact they need to get the rights to use it, since it's not originally a Muppet song.

As a kid when I saw this movie, I always wondered if someone could just give a dollar in person so the Muppets could reach the $10 million mark. Now that you told me about the original ending, not only do I know that it was actually possible, but to have it come from the henchmen would have made the ending, and possibly the entire movie, better. Still, I liked it. Your review was also good!

yes but can we appreciate the fact that Uncle Deadly's story arc began all the way back in the first season of the muppet show when he revealed that he was the original performer in the muppet theater before he was killed during a performance and wanted to get revenge on the muppets by driving them away?

As much as I love the “Happy Song” finale, I also feel that keeping the original ending, or merging both endings would’ve been better!
Maybe after Kermit walks out the door and the Muppets follow him, instead of a massive crowd of fans, it’s a small group of fans, along with repossession officers or something. And we have a bittersweet moment with all the muppets, with Kermit, Walter, Miss Piggy at the front, all looking back at the Muppet theater, and after the doors are shut, Kermit, Piggy, and Walter all take a moment, as a solemn yet hopeful cover of The Muppet Show theme plays in the background. Kermit then looks to the small crowd of fans, reassures them they’ll be alright, and that they have only just begun! He then turns to leave when one of the fans pulls out a handful of money and offers to help the muppets! After politely declining, Kermit is then told that this fan is actually a hobbyist filmmaker with a RUclips channel, and is looking for work, and wants to help the muppets rebuild themselves! After that, more of the fans start offering money and their talent to help the muppets! These fans are either hobbyist, freelance, or studying to be various people in the entertainment business, like sound engineers, storyboarders, script writers, musicians and editors! And eventually some more people show up to help fund the muppets’ small scale comeback! It’s not as big and grand as the billions of fans waiting outside the Muppet theater, but it’s more believable, but still a bit exaggerated. And after all the encouragement from everyone, the Muppets start to realize that while they may not be able to reach the same level of fame, the fact that people still love them and are willing to help them adapt to the new online creator landscape shows that they truly haven’t failed! As Kermit then says: “ya know what? Yeah! Let’s do this! This isn’t the end! This is a new beginning!”
Mary and Piggy: “start at the bottom”
Gary and Walter: “and work our way back up to the top!”
And then the music swells as it transitions to the final chords of Rainbow Connection! And then the muppets start walking back into the street with their fans/new hires, and then Kermit calls to Walter: “Hey Walter! Why don’t you join us!?” And that’s when we have Walter being carried on the muppets’ shoulders! (We cut to Tex Richman bursting out of the muppets studio doors, seeing the joyous muppets, and starts grumbling walking out of frame!) THEN, after a freeze frame of the muppets, and their future team, THEN we hit the “happy song” finale!
But during the song is when Gonzo hits Tex with the bowling ball, and then a mid credit sequence, after the epilogue clips and Manamana, we cut to Tex in the hospital, and we hear him genuinely laugh!
    That’s my take anyway!

I've been rewatching all the muppet movies on Disney and when I first saw this one, I didn't like it half as much as Muppets Most Wanted; but after a few more watches I think I can appreciate more what they were trying to do, even if it feels ultimately a bit unfinished. Learning about the ending helps make it make 'more sense' in that I know now they had a better Villain and ending on paper than what we got on film, so at least that part of it was cohesive. I really adore the muppets and was super sad to hear the new Kermit, he seems like a nice puppeteer but the voice just doesn't even come close and it's too hard for me to get past.
