Probably my favorite joke was the Moopets having a human man playing Animool, because when I was younger, just the fact that part of the band was a human man was funny enough. The joke got immensely funnier when I got older and realized that Animool was Dave fucking Grohl.
I watched this in college as part of my college's "cheap movies for students" thing, and when "Sheldon" came on as human Walter everyone cheered because Big Bang Theory was at peak popularity.
I’m glad I’m not the only person that remembers this movie fondly, it’s just a shame that this is the only good thing Disney has done with the Muppets in recent times.
There’s a video on Man or Muppet winning Best Original Song from Jordan Falk I recommend. It’s pretty sad. Finally, I barely cry at anything. But after several rewatches, the Rainbow Connection scene just got me.
I have to watch this movie again. I remember dying of laughter when Amy Adams is singing at the window and it looks like rain and it's just that guy spraying a hose at the window. Plus the "Getting the Band back together" montage is just awesome. Dude so sick that Micky Rooney knew you were gonna have a RUclips channel later in life. I always felt he had a good eye for talent and knew that one day you'd review Treasure Planet and Atlantis.
“See Mary wants to marry Gary but Mary and Gary barely get any time alone because Walter is always third wheeling” You can’t just drop a sentence like that out of nowhere like it’s nothing
8:31 I'm only realizing now that this scene is a subtle explanation/lampshade of Rowlf joining the crew in the first Muppet Movie without any real moment of him being asked to tag along.
it probably would've been the same as the 2011 movie's explanation, thought canonically part of the film reel got burned by Swedish Chef so maybe it's just a continuity thing where realistically there would've been a Rowlf joining scene that we don't get to see
Seeing this movie makes me sad that CvA got canned, It kinda has the same vibes as a movie we didnt know we needed. Seeing it again for the first time in a long time, I get very similar vibes. A love letter to a franchise that gives it some much needed new life.
I expect a Muppet March every March even if it’s just you talking about the muppets for six hours. I need to hear every single solitary muppet opinion possible from you
Junko does it again. I remember seeing this one 3 times in theaters, I just kept going. Revisiting it yearly makes me so happy. This muppet-a-thon has also made me so happy.
"why are there such great deals on our hotel rooms, free parking for cars, not RV's! our wedding chapel is 24 hours, no marriage certificate is needed! *(nomarriagecertificateisneeded)* " i can't count how many times this song has randomly re-entered my head.
This shares the same plot as It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, in that it involves the Muppets trying to save the theater from an evil businessman, but what makes it different enough is the execution.
A lot of times when films like these get made (basically ones that are feature-length throwbacks to eras long since past), they have to force themselves to do it from a distinctly modern perspective (*cough* Wish *cough*). Well, this is one of those times where such throwbacks actually works out in the film’s favor. While it is weird to hear a barrage of 80s rock songs throughout, much more of the film is exactly how Jim would’ve reintroduced the Muppets to my generation. There’s something kind of magical about that
I love that movie. I had muppets OZ when I was young young so I was always familiar with them but this was the movie that made me fall in love them and on top of that it’s amazing all around. Thanks for doing these vids junko you da man
I just wanted to say I really enjoy this series and I think you're doing a really good job reviewing the muppets movies!!! I find your opinions on the films interesting, thank you for posting these 👍
been a very good retrospective series on muppets, been following since the beginning. kudos to the work you put in my man. you got me to watch a muppets christmas carol for the first time ever this christmas and i loved it
The part that truly got me was when Gary tells Walter he can do anything. Segal walks the perfect line between emotionally honest and slight cheese that really made me tear up when I saw it. While I still prefer Muppets Most Wanted for its more focused comedy, this one is no slouch and within .5 percent of being on the same level. Also you got FIVE movies with Rizzo, where the FUCK is Bean?!
I'm so glad this review series has brought more of the movies to my attention, since I have only stuck with the three I saw as a kid. I will definitely be checking out more of them in the future!
When I was growing up I’d watch the old muppets tv show on RUclips and I loved watching The Great Muppet Caper being probably my favorite movie. But when the trailers for this came out I was so excited I was only 10 years old at the time and it was one of the coolest things to see ever.
Man of Junk! I humbly petition that you cover the one Muppet VHS I owned as a kid: Muppet Classic Theater! While it may not go near the soaring heights of this or other Muppet films, the whole journey just feels incomplete without it. Plus, it has ya boi Rizzo as one of the main players!
This movie made me love we built this city as the best song for a musical, IDK but only the muppets can give it some sense and it worked. Also I loved all the videos they were releasing on RUclips at this time, their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody was like one of the first viral videos I remember and it is such a banger as well, itncould feel diluted because that song has not so family friendly themes but they managed them so gracefully
I have never liked sequels that split up the cast, but literally everything else about this movie is peak and makes up for that point. The world needs more of that sort of Muppet positivity today. Yes, I cried at the end.
I am the world's biggest defender of this movie. It could be that it just hit me at the right time, it was my 21st birthday and I went alone due to the holidays and work and whatnot, so I went to see this and it was just so nice. I was also working at the Disney Store at the time 😂 I think it's so solid and everyone seems to be having a lot of fun. The soundtrack is full of bangers.
Perhaps, if "Muppets from Space" was delayed for a February 2000 release instead of rushing to July 1999 back then, along with "Elmo in Grouchland" being released at a different time for a better financial successful run, then between the former and this soft reboot, we would have had more theatrical Henson-related projects to watch than the bad live-action family flicks you've mentioned. Don't you think?
This is one of my top ten movies. I was too young when the sequel was in theaters to understand the jokes but I know from what I remember the sequel was not as good as the first masterpiece
i put this on durring christmas break when i was 11 and my family hated it “this movie was made to show they still got it? They dont still got it.” my dad said. well time to actuallwatch the video.
You skipped It’s a Very Muppet Christmas Movie! It was a 2002 ABC film it came out before the Wizard of Oz! It was an adaptation of Its a Wonderful Life. Would love to see you go back and talk about that one
Ah yes, the muppets movie that I grew up with (well, i didnt Watch it all that much but) also, aside from this, Diary of a wimpy kid was one of the good kids movies of the 2000s and 2010s
The 2000 Scooby-doo movie is good. The characters are respected, the story would fit perfectly in the cartoon, Shagy is funny and likable, the music is cool, the villain is surprising. I like it 🙂
I mean, with wll the FNAF and mascot horror stuff that heavily leans into antiquated entertainment technology.. I just can't see how if you have a strong vision and writer/director in harmony, it could easily triumph again.
I honestly can’t think of a movie more that went from being so beloved to being so hated so fast as the 2011 Muppets movie. I remember from like end of 2011 up until 2014, this movie was so loved and Man or Muppet was everywhere. Then when Muppets Most Wanted came out, everyone just abruptly decided the 2011 movie was trash and it barely ever comes up anymore.
“Piggy, why do you always have to be so over dramatic about things, you know, it leaves me no choice but to do things that'll hurt you.” -Kermit the Frog I think this movie has a fundamental lack of understanding of the characters. I do like the songs. Maybe Bret McKenzie should’ve written the whole movie.
I have a question: why do people call official movies ‘Fanfiction’? Because Fanfiction isn’t a movie 😅 it just makes me think people who say that don’t understand that word…..😅
I think this movie is great except for one thing: the song/sequence “Me Party.” That’s the biggest blemish on this movie, imo. So when you said “All the songs are bangers,” I slightly disagree.

Bazinga
Bing Bong
I'm so sorry
and now you know that big bang theory is the blackface of nerd culture. thats a solid character arc man.
Happytime Murders clock: 2 movies remain
Happytime Murders reference 10 Brian Hensons out of 10
MCD reference?
Oh my God he has to do that movie. Oh no...
How dare you skip the underrated “It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie”. This disrespect to Joan Cusack will not stand Junk Man.
the only good part about that film was when Joan's feet were shown, the rest is trite.
Shut up dude it's his video, like quit belly aching dude. You sound like a complete brat, like grow up
I know, was waiting for that next upload...
Watch out for the icy patch!
@@jacktaylor6155 haaah nice one
I wouldn’t call it a reboot, since the brand has never been big on continuity and lore anyways. I would call it a cinematic comeback for the Muppets.
A revival if you will
@@marvelousballexactly 😊
I thought that's what a soft reboot was?
In the end, it’s just another Muppet movie.
I’m glad I’m not the only person that remembers this movie fondly, it’s just a shame that this is the only good thing Disney has done with the Muppets in recent times.

This is one of my favorite childhood movies and also my intro to the muppets so it holds a massive place in my heart

Own this on blu-ray, never watched it. Thanks for giving me plans tonight!
I had gone to college in 2010 and I came home to see this with my mom. Best time we had at the movies. I was singing man or a muppet for months.
Fun fact: the Devil HIMSELF starred in this movie as Roolf

Yes, I cried at the end.
This was very good, and I could not stop watching it when it came out on Blu-Ray 🔥
This movie introduced me to the muppets and is one of my favorite movies to this day.
The main reason I never saw this film is I can’t stand looking at or listening to Jason Segel.
