It’s really not too bad in a lake boat with the right captain. What blows my mind is how many poor captains there are. The inlet shows who is who for sure. Also...why do people like to ride up front while going through the inlet?! Caught some nice arses in this video :)
@@WavyBoats And kids just hanging on with their hands -- without a life jacket! what the actual f.. And why does everyone with an open bow boat insist on having people in the front when going through the inlet?

Some things can't be taught - good seamanship is like mathematics either you've got it or you don't. Nope, sorry. No brain cells touching right now. Ask me again after I retrieve my drowned little pooch. You know, while my face and head are being stitched up and my arm is being set.
Consider that most people start off driving, even though they barely know how to drive - THEN they buy a boat that they know even less about piloting...
I’m simple. Look at the boat. Look at the conditions. Make sure there’s great life preservers for all. And decide. I’m going out or not going out. Nature calls the shots in every case for me.

Here in Georgia, “small craft advisory” means its to rough for any vessel 45’ or less. Our boat is 20’. If I see white caps I’ll turn back. Water and Mother Nature don’t play. 🇺🇸🛥🚤
The Inlet don't fall under the definition of small craft advisory, but you're right about not playing with Mother Nature. Some of those lake boats need to pick better wind against tide to go out

Seeing those open deck boats like the Sea Ray out in these conditions is always troublesome, that being said the second clip guy seemed to be doing fairly well all things considered. Didn't even get much water in the front compared to most. Still a poor idea.
Easiest way to estimate the competency of the captains is whether they have passengers on the bow going out of the inlet. And before some puffed up sea salt warrior says driving the boat doesn't make you a captain, yes it does.

Why do so many "lake boats" decide to come out on rough days? 😳
Inexperienced captains.
They just don't have a clue.
Because they think bad things only happen to the other people... oh and stupidity.

It amazes me that people look out at that sort of chop and say ‘yeah, it sure is pretty nice out there today!’
