Rough waves at Boca Inlet and Haulover Inlet as Tropical Depression Fred makes its way around Florida. Aside from the Blue Top Legend, not many boats came out this day due to the strong wind and deteriorating conditions. Things got dicey when the Blue Top Legends engine gave out in 6 foot rollers. Enjoy the video.

Thank you BTW for setting good example and wearing life jackets. Ego prevents 99% of boaters in this inlet from wearing them. Those kids were hauling the mail for sure and clearly grew up on the water and behind the wheel of a boat. Dang. Mad skills and bravery. The boys in the other Whaler handled the water like pros too. Nice to see young people doing something besides taking selfies.
Having a whaler definitely helps but I agree, they definitely have some skills. I grew up fishing in a 78 21'4 outrage.
They never used to wear them why do you think they are famous on here not because of their boat , but because it's girls In bikinis. Most people on here could care less about this boat if it was all males or if the woman were always dressed and not in bikinis.

I grew up riding boats like this with my friends. Just pure fun all summer. My friend's parents had a 45 foot Princess, which we rode around at 15 years old. People looked at us all the time since we were a bunch of kids on board this large million (local ccy) boat. Riding around in the small boats with 30 hp, hopping from small "islands", beaches etc vs the large fancy boat, the small one would beat the large anytime as a kid. The large one was very expensive so we had to be careful, which took a lot of fun out of it.
I spent years working with 38' and 46' Cigarettes and the novelty quickly wears off.
This is a powerboat.
The problem happened when they lost POWER. Get it ?

Like taking a boat with nothing but a compass and running 28 miles of open ocean (like actual open ocean, not like Florida's 'ocean') from where I lived to the local island here in SoCal at 2 in the morning after telling my parents I was going to a sleepover at a friends house. I'm still here to tell the tale.
The captain knows how to run a boat in heavy seas. Make no mistake, there is real and serious danger involved in what she's doing but if she stays focused she'll make it. She definitely has the goods.
I do not see anyone deny her talents, and maybe even good focus, But what about the other idiots on the water that do not have the skills, or the focus, what do you think will happen when the two meet?
Hell, just look at how long it took those idiots to use a rope to tie up and rescue.

Those kids are fearless and it looks like tons of fun. While the boy looks like he is a good swimmer, I believe it was risky to jump in the water without a PFD to swap the lines, in those conditions and in this particular situation: The boats are pitching strongly with sufficient force to knock you out, should they hit your head. One can go under real fast when unconscious.
It's hardest to swim in that with a life jacket. They are for float to save you.
Ppl who get nervous easily should stop pretending they understand risk. You only know running away from risk

Reminds me of being young and driving boats in the Navy. Rough water just made it all more exciting. We knew there was danger, just didnt always know where it might come from. Part of the learning process.
I’ve been in a mechanical rescue situation with another large boat. One of their passengers decided to jump into the water, and nearly had his head crushed between our two boats. The fenders were out, and that gave him a fraction of a second to get out of the way. The fenders squished together just enough to keep the boats from colliding, but not enough to protect his coconut. Don’t compound a bad situation.
Absolutely, never enter the water unwilling, and if you do for God sake keep your lifejacket ON..that young man had it on in the boat, should be zipped up, then takes it off to enter the water..

Good old Boston Whalers, I used to do the Exact same thing, in the exact same boat 25 years ago, out of the exact same inlet, nice to see!!. The Boca Beach Club was very different back then.
I just started watching your vids and that gal at the helm of BT LEGEND is something else! I never thought I'd see them in trouble. My hubby caught a look with me and said "Is this a loop cuz we just saw that same boat already". I had to tell him "we'll see those girls 2-3 more X, that's what they do". "Go zipping by, out the inlet. Turn around & fly that little blue top legend back in"! Then do it again, told him "they're not headed into the ocean, they're riding the inlet & tearing it up". That's a shame somebody tried to take it. And as mentioned it suffered trouble after.

Boston whaler is a beast of a boat, had a 17 footer and it had a hole in her center from getting the gun cut off, it was an X coast guard boat, but we fixed the fiber glass and had her for years, just a small 2 stroke 60 hp Mercury 😁👍🇺🇸🥳🍺❤️

"What do you guys think about the guy in the water with no life jacket" I think its hard to swim with a life jacket on. It's a survival tool, and he's not trying to survive. He had it on when it counted, i.e. when they're hitting the inlet hard and there's a chance that something could go wrong. He's got three boats around him. Not a problem I'd say.
He was gone though, i bet he drowned?
@@pietvelkens219in the US, we tend not to just leave swimmers overboard to drown, and laugh about it on our way in. It's true you don't see him again after towboat US takes over, but I suspect he got in the other Boston Whaler. It seemed to me that the blue top legend and towing Boston Whaler were together.

I completely understand and know that lifejackets are uncomfortable in the water, but it is really dangerous to swim even if 3 boats are around without one. Take for example if the curent decides to pull him underwater or because of cold water body gets sudent shock that can easily kill you. And if this happens and you have a lifejacket on its easy to save you.
And I'm not blaiming the guy just some things to think about.
I'm not all that worried about the guy without a jacket, he seems capable enough, and there were three boats with multiple people to help out if something happened.

Fr that was me on the other whaler I only followed them out bc I thought they were going die out there and my friend decided to hop on with them lmao then there fucken engine broke down right next to the beach it was pretty sketchy but it was pretty lucky that we were out there
There were plenty of people to assist if he were to have issues... Obviously he is confident in his ability to swim in those conditions.
WEAR a life jacket at all times in OPEN OCEAN rescue situations. No matter how strong of swimmer, waves and boats equals opportunity to get hit in head and knocked unconscious. Life jacket keeps you from sinking and can quickly get rescued. As always SAFETY FIRST. In this case BOCA INLET WON

That captain does a great job of reading the waves to adjust throttle.
On the way in, you see she's riding the backs of the waves, pacing the waves.
On the way out, she's running faster to skip from wave top to wave top to avoid ploughing down in between oncoming waves.

Usually I'm harder, but there were 3 boats, he looked to be a strong swimmer, no alcohol.....so not concerned......
If he wasn't a good strong swimmer he wouldn't have jumped in. Life guards don't wear a pfd, too restrictive.
I would think it would much more difficult to do with a jacket on.
A PFD that while working with lines that close to pitching and rolling boats could be a lifesaver or a life taker. Boat comes down a knocks you out without a PFD, you might drown. But if a boat comes down on you while wearing a PFD there could be enough resistance to being submerged to break your neck. To me it is six one way half dozen the other. :)

It's what you wear when there is a substantial risk of being ejected at speed where you may be injured or rendered unconscious and it will take minutes at minimum to get assistance to you.
That was obviously not the case here - highly unlikely he's going to be rendered unconscious in this scenario, and with multiple people with eyes on him a life jacket would be stupid.
Disclaimer: I spent my teen years in FL, and yes - I can in fact swim in my sleep.
Back then I also free dove on a wreck at 90'.

As long as BTL guy is an advanced ocean swimmer, like myself, I totally approve. If you need to manuever quickly while in the water, then no life jacket is definitely the way to go. I have been in similar situations.

@@drdrew3 You clearly have no background as an experienced swimmer of any type and haven't spent time around boats or in the ocean.
If you can't manage to avoid banging your head on a boat, please stay away from the water.
Also the life jacket can be cumbersome if you need to react quickly. You still of course need to have situational awareness to avoid getting hurt.
The guy with no jacket was not on the blue top legend or the tow boatus when they went in ! I guess he is swimming in ! LOL

We used Boston Whalers in the Coast Guard great boats until we started using Zodiacs in the early 80s.

Where they cut the boat in half. These ladies make me all warm n fuzzy ‘down there’ to watch them do the things my dad did almost 60 years earlier. Part of pop’s job - try to break that boat - never did!!!

That motor has been through lots of brutal RPM changes between being airborne and landing back in the water. How ironic that it was finally taken down by some criminal submerging it. It survived many battles only to be mortally wounded while it was sleeping peacefully.
While I understand what you're saying....if you watch the videos they are featured in, the capt tries to work the throttle when the boat flies out of the water. I'm sure it isn't perfect though.....
@@michaelfromRhodeIsland I agree about the good throttle control on BTL but like you say it's hard to match perfectly. Good technique on the power definitely separates skilled captains from the wallowing bow-stuffers trailing dock lines overboard and whatnot.

oh my lol... i used to luv going on boat rides in my teens, twenties and up to forties, but in my fifty's the boat has to be over 100ft and even then, it has to be a clear day...lol
I used to air out our boat when I was about 16-17. My back is junk, but that’s not the only reason.

The girl piloting that blue top is a savage, probably been doing that with her dad since she was a toddler.
If he knew he was a strong swimmer, and with three boats right there, it was probably a low risk thing to do. But, had it been me, I'd have snagged a jacket first.
Jackets are great at keeping you alive
But they really hamper your movement and speed
That close to shore and all those boats around id ditch the life jacket straight away
It's really tiring spinning a distance in one
If I was in the middle of the ocean then I'd def take one though
Great if your on the boat and might get knocked out in an accident as well

I have been in waters like this without life jacket with no problem. Everything in life is risk versus benefit. Americans are getting more and more afraid of everything. It's kind of sad. Maybe just stay at home with the covers over your head. Lol If something happens to me it was my choice.
