    When Shohei Ohtani set the “record,” my hands trembled for several minutes. I’ve never experienced anything like this while watching baseball. Even now, my hands are still lightly shaking, but what this man accomplishes is beyond human comprehension. At LoanDepot Park, where he led the world to victory in the WBC last year, he now secured his first postseason berth and set an unprecedented “record.” Just like the “40-40” achievement, he often plays games that remain in both “records” and “memories.” Is he a messenger sent by the baseball gods? No, perhaps he himself is a baseball god in human disguise. …There are still nine regular-season games left to witness his performance, which inspires such fantasies.

    • @1utube01
      @1utube01 2 месяца назад +21

      Yeah, Ruth never had 2 way seasons like Shohei did in Anaheim. And he never faced integrated lineups. Or the superior hitting and pitching of today's game. The only argument in Ruth's favor is that back then, pitchers pitched longer, and the modern reliever culture and pitch counts has made pitching comparisons with the Bob Gibsons almost impossible. Modern pitchers will never have those careers ever again, and maybe not even those seasons. They will still get the wins, and will probably throw harder, faster, with more types of pitches, for fewer innings.

The argument was that although WAR of Ohtani was higher than Judge, MVP should go to Judge because he made the new record of HR in American League. If the baseball record was the key in 2022 over hitting & pitching combined, the record of 51-51 should exceed the combo of hitting & shortstop defense.

    Congratulations to Shohei for joining first the 50/50 club ! ! ! ! !
    If Shohei had entered the MLB immediately after graduating from high school as he had originally hoped, we would have seen Shohei only as a pitcher today. We wouldn't have seen Shohei as a home run hitter and a skilled base stealer, which we are now celebrating.
    Shohei himself intended to play as a pitcher in the MLB, and the MLB teams' executives thought the same. And he told the NPB teams not to draft him. Despite this, only the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters selected him as their first pick, and Shohei initially declined the nomination.
    However, the team and manager Hideki Kuriyama (who was also the manager of Team Japan in the WBC 2023) presented him with a detailed development plan and suggested that he would try playing as a two-way player as a professional, something that he himself had not thought about. Their enthusiastic persuasion paved the way for Shohei to become a two-way player in the professional league and made it a reality.
    Furthermore, the LA Angels accepted him as a two-way player in the MLB. And In 1921, manager Joe Maddon respected Ohtani's desire to "play every day as a two-way player", and removed the batting restrictions, giving him a freer environment.
    I can't express my gratitude to all of them. Thank you, thank you, thank you !!!!!
    Of course, I would also like to thank his father, Toru, and Hanamaki Higashi High School's manager Hiroshi Sasaki, who built the foundation for Shohei as a great baseball player, as well as his mother, Kayoko, his elder brother, Ryuta, and elder sister, Yuuka, who raised Shohei to be a kind and generous person.
    (I used Google translation.)

      Michael Jordan was with a team, and often, other players contributed to the wins. On the other hand, Usain Bolt is the greatest in any athletic competition I have ever seen. No one can beat him. Not even close. Michael Phelps and the tennis greats (Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, etc.), Tiger Woods, and others have lost a few here and there. People should compare the new most outstanding athlete to Usain, not Michael Jordan.

    Ichiro’s statement about Shohei Ohtani during his retirement press conference in 2019: “If he has a season where he wins 20 games as a pitcher, and the following year he hits 50 home runs and wins MVP, that would be monstrous. But it’s not unimaginable. That’s how I feel.”
