    A VERY helpful video! You speak clearly and enunciate your words so what you say is easy to hear and understand! Most of the vids on youtube are unusable due to the "mumbling" or heavy accent of the video maker... Keep up the GOOD work!

      Congratulations! That is great news - welcome to HF! If you start to feel a bit overwhelmed (or underwhelmed) by the radio, just keep making contacts and doing the things you've thought about doing. What you may find is that the versatility of the 7300 makes most of us very happy over time. I hope to hear you on the air sometime soon. 73 - AC3DS

    Very nice presentation :-)
    And timely for me. I bought a new 7300 about a year ago and have never opened the box. My sis passed away about the time the rig came and I just abandoned ham radio. I'm feeling the urge again so will be unboxing my 7300 soon and will use this video to help me start from scratch.

    Great video. I've had my 7300 for a couple years, and have only been licensed for about 6 years. Love this rig, with a mini G5RV run around my HOA controlled back yard. I just got my DXCC using FT8, and now am working on renewing my 50 year old CW skillz. Will keep watching your videos! 73

      Go into the 7300 and select the Tuner Function in the menu and set it to Emergency and don't use more than 50 watts... It will allow you to tune your G5RV on 30 and 18 meters and 12 meters. Enjoy

  • @MarkPeeren
    @MarkPeeren 2 месяца назад

    When you use the tune function or check the SWR the radio defaults to a low power CW signal. That is why you don't find a difference between RTTY and SSB when you tune. You also don't have to reduce power because the radio does it anyway. Great videoand very helpful for people that are new to the hobby.

    Great series. I have spent 32 years with almostly daily Net, "Rag Chewing", and serious SOLP contesting, primarily on 40 meter SSB, and find that a SLOW (as opposed to fast ) AGC receiver setting enhances receiver quality, and ability to hear what is being transmitted. This is especially true during increased QRN, typically occurring during the summertime months here in the U.S. This is however, my first SDR rig, so I am open to learning more regarding this topic. 73,

    This was great as usual. The only suggestion I have is with regard to ALC, Mic Gain and Compression. It would good to show the viewers how to properly set ALC at somewhere between 30-50% and then set compression so that ALC doesn't cut back on the transmit power.

    Thanks for the video. I have a technician license and I am working towards my general. (at a somewhat glacierly pace) Been doing some on my part of the 10 meter band when I can. I like your videos and the way you explain things. The ones on the NanoVNA really helped me use it to fix an SWR issue I had. Some day I'm gonna move up and use my 7300 to its potential.

    • @transmittinguntilrobotsrep1045
      @transmittinguntilrobotsrep1045  2 года назад +3

      It sounds like you are making the most of your Tech license. The 10 meter band can give some great experiences, and the 7300 will be there for you whenever you decide (or have the time) to work to the upgrade. That you already have the 7300, NanoVNA, and experience working on antennas seems to indicate you may be closer than you realize. Keep up and you'll get there soon. Thank you for sending the feedback, it really helps me to know if the videos are making a difference. Happy radioing! 73, AC3DS

    Several things you forgot to mention, for example, you advice to set the mic gain between 50 and 70, wrong, you should say that has to be set looking at the ALC meter when talking normally and then move the mic gain from 50 down until ALC be three quarters or less of the red bar below, most of the times is below 50%, the 7300 has a lot of gain. Mine is set at just 20%. Something else,leave the TX EQ on zero for bass and treble will leave this radio with lower intelegibility, you have to explain how to get a better TX audio. Also, compressor level should be set by % but by reading compression level read on the meter not to have over 10db compression, otherwise TX audio will be saturated.

    On my 7300, power set at 100%, modulation set at 50 % I can put out 100% power on RTTY, or FM. When i switch to SSB the most power the radio will put out is 50%. Do you know of any internal setting that will allow the radio to put out a full 100% power on SSB ? Turning modulation up to 100% does not seem to help.

    • @elkabong6429
      @elkabong6429 Год назад

      Hi, my clock on the 7300 has to be tweaked every few months. Kind of disappointed in that, but it's easy enough to reset when I tune it to WWV. In any case, I use an MFJ "atomic" clock (Model MFJ-121B); one that is automatically set from a 60hz signal sent from WWV from Ft. Collins, Colorado for my serious shack time keeping. The REAL serious hams use a logging program for keeping track of their contacts (for contesting and what have you) and they use the clock in their computer that is properly set to Internet time.
      I hope my long-winded answer helped you! 73

    • @FatherMarty
      @FatherMarty Год назад

      Yes to both. Press the Multifunction knob (top right of the screen), first item is RF Gain. Adjust that until power out on your wattmeter on key down is 10W into a 1:1 SWR (a dummy load). Note the percentage may or may not be 10%. You can listen to Shortwave - just use "AM" mode. You won't be able to get digital stations, but the rest of them are pretty available.

      I've read that AGC should be set to Slow for AM, Mid for SSB, and Fast for CW and RTTY. Having it on Fast, I've found from experience that Fast seems to be good for weak signals. I don't know why that would be, but it feels like I can make out weak signals better when the AGC is set to Fast.

      @@transmittinguntilrobotsrep1045 I've always preferred slow on ssb. It makes for a smoother sound. In weak signal situations fast may be an advantage for sure.

    • @RoelandJansen

      it depends. General starting rule is fast for cw and slow/med for ssb. mostly slow for AM. But then again, sometimes you just need NB and NR always on etc. Kind of some personal prefs mixed in as well.
