I just ordered mine yesterday. My 50th year B-Day present to myself.. i am so nervous and excited. It’s almost like a first date with ‘that special someone’ ! Good thing i dont kiss and tell!!
This was definitely helpful for eliminating some of the clutter on my scope making finding and tuning a whole lot easier. Please keep the videos coming.
Eric, thanks a bunch for all the videos but especially these Icom 7300 demo's. Keep 'em coming. The 7300 should offer a lot of video potential and it's a great help for those of us who need to get to know the radio. 73's.
I pick my 7300 up next weekend, I cant wait. Take my Element 3 right after that (I'm "only" a Tech at this moment but more than ready for the General test). So yeah, I have no idea what I'm doing yet but luckily fellow hams have gone out of their way to help. And of course RUclips Channels like this are awesome!
Hi Eric, I just picked up a 7300 yesterday and this has been immensely helpful getting the scope to work effectively. You saved me a boatload of time. Thanks! Jim KE8WC
GREAT Job... Thanks Not a contest fanatic and don't do much CW anymore.. but your suggestions just made The scope/waterfall MUCH more pleasant to look at and easier to read. Thanks!
Eric...another terrific vid!!! This is another one I bookmarked as I await my IC-7300 from DX Engineering. You've made customizing the scope so easy. Thanks so much for your videos---I truly appreciate your efforts!
Thanks a bunch! Maybe, just maybe, after I watch this nine more times, I will have 90 percent of it. This is a lot to assimilate in a few minutes, but I like your pace. It makes it easy to pass over things I know. And, I then I can scroll back a bit when I need to.
Great video. I've got a loaner ic-7300, with the understanding that I am to figure out how to make this work... Your video is sooooo helpful, I will implement your tricks and tips today!
THANK YOU ! A very well done instructional video . I was playing with the settings on my 7300 and got it changed and then had no idea how to get it back like it was I stepped thru with you on this video and in a few minutes got it back . 73 Bob
Thank you very much for the video! I set up my ICOM and it became much more convenient to work. For myself, I also added "waform color (current) G: 75" to the menu. Gives peak filling.
Also since you can save as many setups as you like on your SD card, you can unmount your SD card and stick it into your pc and then copy the files off of the SD card onto the pc, and you can email your setup to a friend for him to try on his 7300 or post them on a forum if the forum allows files to be posted. It can also include saving your SSB and CW and RTTY memory contents too. But it is very nice to be able to help a newcomer by sending him your complete rig setup and he can load it in a few seconds, and you can then explain a feature or function while operating on a rig setup just like yours. 73 James K0UA

Really enjoyed and benefited from your video. I just got the 7300 in yesterday and am trying to learn these new fangled things from a life time of vintage equipment like the Collins S-Line. Quite a challenge. Touch one thing and have no idea what I did, where I went and how to get back. What a rabbit hole these things are but I am having fun with it. Thanks 73 WA4QGA
I have purchased the 7300 as my 1st HF rig. Still waiting for it to arrive. I look forward to your videos on setting it up. I will refer to them to help me navigate the new rig. Thank you.
Very informative & I laughed, because like all other computer "comfortable" folk you rapidly punch buttons , change screens & the like. & old guys like me who have barely graduated from "spark" have difficulty following. The video was WELL worth watching.....Thank You Eric. Cheers! Brian, VE6XX
nice job. it does not hurt to play with settings for the scope/waterfall .with changing conditions I change my settings a lot.and the part i like best is reset to factory settings. usually what i do when done or first thing for the day or night. then change . A lot of this can be sent to PC and record them. and I can even do settings from my laptop. I saved my memories to PC . so much can be done. learning repeater settings on 10 and 6 meters. yes 7300 can do and even can scan PL tones . I heard some complaint's on fan noise on the 7300. what i hear is fine for me. my fan hardly comes on or if at all. I keep my power way down and let the amp do the work. my amp tubes 572/B last many years . I dip my grid and keep drive way down. and pre tune into dummy load . 7300 runs great on a LiFePO4 battery . love it. 73,s
I'd sure like to get my hands on the 7300 I bought!!! Just wanted to let you know that I just bought a 7300 at DX Engineering @ 3:00AM this morning for $899.xx, charged transaction to my VISA! Now at 10:00AM I get a call from DXE saying ICOM won't let them honor the sale! I said then let ICOM know that the 7300 was my second ICOM HF Base purchase from you (and them), previously having purchased a new 7200. They said sorry, but they can't fulfill the transaction!!! I said...well, you're not yet sorry enough! I'll rate the product higher if the marketing and sales folks can just get their heads on right and deliver it as purchased.I'll rate the product & companies involved higher if the marketing and sales folks can just get their heads on right and deliver it as purchased. 73's K4WWK
Nice video Eric, grateful to learn this as I’m.a new licensee that’s just passed my Amateur Extra exam. This was the radio HRO was really hi Jan for me to purchase as my first ham radio. Your description of the setting controls are very helpful to me. Thank you for making the video.
Very informative Video on the operating of the scope function... never knew you could adjust the scope to that many adjustments... I should read the manual one day LOL
Great material. I haven't been using my 7300 as effectively or as efficiently as I could. The video was excellent and you certainly know the rig inside/ out, but you often went too fast, especially for some of us using the rig for the first few times. So, good stuff and very much appreciated, but presented maybe just a bit too fast. Thanks
Instead of changing the Ref, twist the RF gain until your noise level is ~ S1, this cleans up the waterfall and reduces some of the noise, while the signal is still just as good. It looks lower but sounds just fine.
Unfortunately the inherent noise in the 7300 makes the rf gain almost useless. Try this… turn the rf gain fully ccw and note how much noise is present. Nothing coming in should equal nothing out yet the 7300 generates a lot of noise. The IC7300 is the noisiest rx I’ve ever used.
I think this is really great. It's something I've found that you need to watch and change from band to band. I do like this setup. But I prefer the 3 band setup better. It's good know know what everything looks like. 73, Harry K9HDT

Always been a yaesu guy, but Ive really been eyeing these. Nothing against icom, just really liked the yaesus 10 years ago when I got my general. Might get one and pair it with a 1306 when I get extra and learn cw
Where does CW start and stop on 20 meters? It's not I my chart. I'm General. Love this video!! I've had my icom a year and I've found a ton of stations from this. Thanks!!
is there a way to stretch the top section so that number of db/increment is smaller? it would make the signals taller more noticeable. seems like a lot of dead space above the spectrum plot unless extremely large signal. thanks for the tutorial.
Any chance of making a video about the AGC settings on IC-7300? I've experimented for quite a while with AGC, and could never figure out why would anyone use anything other than fastest setting of fast. On the other hand, the options are there, so there must be a use case I'm missing. 73 de YU1NKA/DM1NKA
Thanks for this very useful video. I'm trying to decide whether to buy the IC-7300 or to spend much more money for the IC-7610. Maybe a comparison between the two? How about showing us how to hook up an SDR such as the RSP1a to the IC-7300? Concerned about being able to ground the SDR input so that transmitting on the 7300 doesn't kill the SDR. Also a recommendation on the SDR software to use, SDRPlay? Thanks!
Is using the squelch the same as adjusting that reference point to eliminate noise on the waterfall? I just use the squelch to reduce noise on waterfall.
good video, but you should have saved the setup into your SD card before you started and also when you made your changes. You can have as many saved setups as you like and just use the default date and time as the filenames, and you could change between them as often as you like. 73 James K0UA

I'm a little cw guy. Tnx fer thinking about me.
About 12 minutes in you demonstrate using the filter in cw. Can you demonstrate that in your other video with the 991a?
What about adjusting the RF gain rather than just messing with the reference? Wouldn't that reduce the visual AND audible noise?
I would have thought so - thats what I do on my homebrew SDR and it reduces listening fatigue greatly. Tim G0ETP.
