  • What are the best Icom 7300 TBW settings? My personal preference is WIDE and MID. See my custom settings on my website: www.k0pir.us/best-icom-7300-tr...
    In this video I just show Hams how to change the WIDE, MID and NAR TBW values. There's a demonstration of the receive filter bandwidth. Also suggestions for listening to your transmit audio. There are no samples, sorry. There are some samples of transmit audio using the NAR TBW. See: www.k0pir.us/icom-7300-microph...

    I'm an Amateur Radio enthusiast. I love the hobby and experimenting with radios, antennas and software. I have a lot of fun. On my RUclips channel I upload videos mostly on the Icom 7300 and Icom 7610 as well as Ham Radio software programs. I hope to inspire people to get involved in Amateur Radio.

      Thank you for commenting. Yes, I believe so. I've used a few different mics with it and that wide setting probably wouldn't work with my old mic. It was a dynamic mic and today I'm using an electret boom mic. My favorite right now is the Yamaha CM500: amzn.to/2yzgPIb

      Ham Radio with K0PIR you are right it's great rig. I do use it hardly in digital mode all day long with no problems and it's hold it very well. But I think it's look bit old nowadays, specially when we see new rig come to the market with screen SDR. See you on the air A61CP.

      Ham Radio with K0PIR What antenna are you using when your camping. I did the 13 colonies and got a clean sweep and the two bonus stations this week, it took me 4 days. My call sign is KE8CDD.

      Hi Tony,
      Congrats and that's awesome.
      This weekend I was using the Tarheel 200A on my vehicle. I just run a coax from it to my camper. Sometimes I put up and inverted vee.
      I ran a net in the morning from the camper and then used an Elecraft KX2 to make some QRP contacts.
      Very hot weekend here, 100+.

    I find the best way to hear what your audio sounds like is to use the record function on web sdr. Most web sdr need Firefox or Chrome browsers to do this. I don't know if IE browser has fixed this because I haven't used IE for years as a default browser. Next time your on a web sdr, look for the record function. I always use the widest filter on my 7300, I'm a rag chewer more than DX'er, with either the SM20, SM30 or cheap Chinese BM-800, all solicit great audio reports.

    If you are using FT8 you should use wide 100 - 2900 if you want to use the full bandwidth on TX

    • @BaldurNorddahl

    I got a device that you connect to your antenna connection then connect your coax to it...plug a pair of headphones to it...and you get a good idea of what your transmit audio sounds like.

  • @Aleziss
    @Aleziss 6 лет назад +1

    isn't there a monitor that you could connect headphones and hear the audio right out of the radio instead ?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 лет назад

      Hi Aleziss,
      Thanks for commenting. With the headphones attached there is a monitor on the radio that is useful. It's activated using the Multi knob and the menu. The monitor volume can be set from there. See: ruclips.net/video/9oCiz5yKes0/видео.htmlm28s
      The other way I have monitored my TX audio is by using a second receiver. There's no other way that I know of.
      Thanks again and I hope that is the answer you were looking for.
      73,
      Rich, www.K0PIR.us

    • @Aleziss
      @Aleziss 6 лет назад

      so to confirm, when you monitor yourself with headphones, you WILL hear changes made in the EQ section right ?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 лет назад

      Yes EQ and TBW adjustments are noticeable, but it is still not the transmit audio. It is very helpful though. I like it because it gives me a good starting point in adjustments, helps me to determine if I am too close to the mic, whether my audio is clear, how my voice sounds and so on. Very helpful.
      It's better to listen on a second receiver or ask another ham to record your TX audio and send it to you. I have done that many times and am happy to do it for others.
      Best 73!

      Thanks for all the replies ! I've been silent for at least 15 years and I am tempted by a 7300 that has a "nice" rebate that ends july 15th... This is going to be a lot different than what I used to do with my FT847 (that I should have never sold) on satellites with a hygain oscar antenna kit and a g5600 (when there used to be a couple ones working on analog), contacted MIR and ISS space station, meteor scatter and weak signal on vhf and 6m with my home brew 3 el yagi using WSJT with my own home made sound card interface PC to 847...
      I stopped because most of the satellites died, P3D failed a couple days or week after lauch, ao10 (my favorite) died too and I think also fo20 or 21... so I had to invest, again, a lot of money to go higher in frequency, get up/dn converters, bunch of antennas, more coax... and then I had to leave the house where the shack was installed... so I got rid of everything besides my g5600, 350' of 9913 coax and my old 50 amp stabilex psu...
      One thing that started to bug me a little is the amount of qsl cards that I needed to be filled and return... I mean, I just wanted to have a nice contact, exchange a little bit and that is all but it seems the other party wanted me to reply all those cards and that seems pretty serious...
      I am really hesitant in getting the 7300 as it is quite a bit of money (maybe even more in the near future with the trade "disaster" with US), not knowing much about what I'll find on the hf bands... I mean all those years I've miss doing radio and thought about it many times... is ti the time now ? On top of having limitation to install HF antennas, maybe a g5rv 1/2 on the side of my house that has aluminium sheating...
      So I watch a lot of videos like yours, get tempted to try it again and have fun on the air ! Sorry about the long reply, but again, thanks for always replying to my questions !
      73 !

      Your welcome and that is good to hear. You will enjoy the Icom 7300. I think it is the best radio in that price range for many things.
