    I'd go with the XDS as well, the trigger, sights, and extra rounds make the decision easy for me.

      What holds more than a 30rd Glock mag. Didn't Spring have a recall on the trigger.

    Went to the range and rented both. The XDS felt better in my hand, the recoil on the XDS was better, too. I found more accuracy with the XDS and really liked the sites. I'm a Sig guy and I don't own a Glock or a Springfield so there's no bias here, but to me the XDS was a better gun hands down...

    The XDS was my first handgun purchase. Years later it’s still my favorite gun I own. The gun is super crisp and after owning both the XDS and glocks, the XDS just feels more sturdy. I love it and if you can find it on sale it’s super budget friendly

    While the XDS weighs more you have to remember that weight can aid in reducing the felt recoil.
    Another consideration is the grip and trigger safety on the XDS whereas the glock only has the trigger safety. Personally I like having two safeties, especially when I conceal carry.
    Nice review

      I dont know how the grip safety of the XDS feels, but I found it a nuisance on the full size XD when it came to rerack the slide. I have medium-large hands and found I was not reliably engaging the grip safety when racking the slide. I would like a grip safety that is a little more prominent to avoid slight changes in hand position making the weapon inoperable bc you can cant clear a round in an emergency

      i noticed that deal with the grip safety myself n the slide engaging without gripping that safety i thought it was just an issue with my gun so thats good to no,wat i did notice is the trigger still cant b pulled without engaging the grip safety so im assuming its more of a secondary trigger safety on the xds...

      SafeArmsReview: All of the pros you pointed out in your comment is the exact reason why I recently purchased the XDs. Sweet shooter. That little weight does make a big difference in its accuracy. Great concealed carry too. Thanks

      I particularly like the idea of a grip safety on this pistol because of carrying it inside a waistband and/or in the appendix position. The biggest concern for me when it comes to striker-fired guns with no manual/thumb safety is holstering, and the possibility of clothing or debris setting off the trigger. The 'trigger safety' tab won't do anything to help that really, and I know from carrying just my cel phone on a belt clip how easily a piece of shirt can get caught.
      On a hammer gun, when you put your thumb over the back of the slide as you holster it, you can feel if the trigger/hammer is being affected by something inside as you holster. Not so with a Glock or M&P, or an XDS for that matter. But with the XDS when you put your strong thumb up behind the slide, it comes off the grip safety so the trigger won't set off a round even if it's pushed against.
      It seems that a lot of negligent/accidental discharges with Glocks happen when holstering one way or another. I like that a grip safety helps address this differently than the extra action of a manual/thumb safety when drawing.

      I love my Springfield XD also, I like Glocks, but I don't own one because there are better weapons on the market. My XD and CZ P07 are superior to any Glocks, and a big PLUS for me, is that they have either a manual safety or a grip safety. Glock's LACK of an external safety is a BIG problem for me !!!!!

    The XDS is by far the best single stack concealment gun I have had the pleasure of operating. Comparing to the Glock 43 and the M&P shield, it was a hands down win for me. The extra weight helped with wrist control and killing recoil. Also, once worn for a while, the XDS is hardly noticeable to me. The extra capacity and nice build of the gun make it a no brainer. I shot it parked with a glock 19 and even preferred it to the 19. I know how are not comparable guns, but after this gun, Springfield has my loyalty. Also, as he points out in the end, the steel mags and nicer mag well do make a world of difference in speed reloads vs the Glock. XD Mod 2 coming next for me.

  • @MsRandiCook

    Love the comparison! As a woman I carry the Springfield XDS 3.3 - 45 ACP.
    I also have a Glock G19 9mm. As a LH shooter, I love the Gen 4 Glock.
    The Glock when shooting has much more muzzle rise compared to the Springfield XDS.
    Springfield did a wonderful design on the pistol. The heaver XDS does not have as much rise.
    Love both guns, but for my daily carry, Springfield XDS 3.3 45 ACP is my choice...
    Keep up the great work!

      I think its much more about position of chamber than overall weight. Glocks have pretty low bore axis, so you can manage recoil. Dont forgot about womans grip too.

    I bought an XDS in Sept. 2015 and I amamzed how accurate this pistol is right out of the box. It took 1 mag before I was knocking bullseyes consistently. Highly accurate at both distances we were shooting at indoor range, 7 yds and 15 yds. and was good at both distances with this gun. Guy I was shooting with was a compettive pistol shooter and he was highly impressed with shooting with gun. It had been 5 years or more since I had shot any and that was with my Walther P22. I am not an avid shooter, bought this gun for self defense but I do not feel you can go wrong with this gun. Came with a 7 rd and 8 mags an Springfield had an offer for buying this gun and gave me another 7 rd. mag, a 9 rd. mag, mag holster and gun bag which I really like all of the bonuses. Very good pistol with a better price than Glock as well! You can't go wrng with the XDS!

  • @qj877

    Another option for the XDS which is one reason why I like it better. Is the option to have the 4inch model which has longer sight radius but doesn't effect concealability, and its the only one in that class that has a rail. If it's your only gun you can ccw all day, then come and throw a light on the rail, throw the extended mag in it, and youlle basically have a decent full size gun for home defense. It can serve more than one purpose unlike the others.

    Excellent comparison review. You have the natural ability to get right to the point with your professional firearm reviews without the unnecessary "30 min." reviewers who enjoy seeing themselves on camera. I own the XDs 9mm, and wouldn't trade for the world. Crisp trigger pull, accurate, outstanding cc. Not knocking Glock. I own the G19 9 mm, and wouldn't part with it either.

    I carry the Glock 43. I upgraded one of the mags with the +2 base plate and I quickly moved back to the pinky extension due to weight. I'll chose the lighter option hands down... when it's on your hip the grams/ounces make all the difference in being comfortable carrying... as if you don't even notice it.

    • @usa-rb5fi
      @usa-rb5fi 8 лет назад +2

      I used to think weight carrying wise didn't make a difference, but man I was wrong. I used to carry a full size XDM 3.8 and 19+1 capacity is nice and all, but it reminded me of when I used to carry a 1911 weight wise. I traded the XDM in for a G17 because I wanted the longer barrel and it's about 4 or 5 ounces lighter. What a difference it made lol, and I only lost 2 rounds in capacity.

    Good and fair review. Your last statement, "out of the box comparison" is why I would've picked the XDs over the Glock had I not already owned the 43. I have brought my 43 up to XDs standards by redoing the grip, changing the sights and buying the extended mags. I'm still a Glock guy, but I will definitely checkout the XDs line down the road.

      I bought the XDS Mod 2 in .45. It's the biggest piece of crap I own. It was my first and last polymer pistol. Even with 4 mags that came with the gun I wish I had bought the Sig P365 or the compact P320. Needless to say it lives in a dark corner of my gun safe. If you rate it better than the Glock then I know Glock is making a POS pistol. No more poly, no more striker fired for me.

    When I was looking for a small single stack 9mm, I went back and forth between the G43, Shield, and XDs. Having the benefit of blue label pricing on both the Glock and S&W, which swung the advantage definitely in their favor, I still ended up going with the Springfield XDS because it just fit me better. Great video, all are great guns and it was really hard to choose just one.

      Keep your finger off the trigger and you won't have a negligent discharge. I've carried glocks for years and never once has my gun gone off when I don't intend for it too. Your Springfield has more going on that can go wrong and prevent that trigger from being pulled when you need to use it.

  • @MarcMozz
    @MarcMozz 6 лет назад +4

    I've owned the XDS .45 as my carry gun for over a year. I've put about 10k rounds through it, and I just keep the grip stock. I actually like the feel of the aggressive grip. I really love this gun, and the way it feels in my hands when it fires is really comfortable. I'm very used to the gun, and know what ammo it doesn't like and which ammo it does, as it is a .45ACP but very small. Personally I also think the XDS is much more sexy than a Glock, which is also a big deal, because one must look at the gun to use it. The most important thing, when getting an every day carry gun isn't the stats, but how the gun feels to the user. The best thing to do is to find a shooting range where they will rent guns to a buyer so they can find the right gun by actually trying it out. If a gun doesn't feel right to the user, stats mean absolutely nothing. My XDS feels just right with the extended 6 round mag. I can't use it with the flush 5 round, because my pinky is required.

    XDS had a recall a couple of years ago. It took 6 months to get it back. Had to add a Rock River Arms spring kit to make it function properly. Those fixes, and it is now a very reliable weapon. Took a long time, patience, and work to gain confidence in it.

  • @xray111xxx
    @xray111xxx 8 лет назад +16

    It comes down to what you will like when you shoot them. PPS, Shield, Glock, XD. How can you go wrong? Comes down to how you connect with them. I am a fan of the PPS, but I had an XDM, and loved that gun too. It was in .40 though. I am looking at a Glock 19 for now, or a 26 so I can maintain my system with my Glock 34. Walther side, I had a PPX and loved it. I had a Glock 21, and loved it. So really, pick a flavor, shoot well with it, protect your family, and have fun on the range too.

    I love my Springfield XDS 9mm with a 4 inch barrel. The fiber optic sight picks up great in day light and even with low lighting. Not the best with no light. But the interchangeable back straps make the grip fit perfectly in my hand and the trigger feels great to me! I have two9 round mags and 3 7 round mags. It’s great that I can change the mag plate to either flat, pinky extension or full grip extensions! Very accurate and relabeled snd s great looking pistol plus they give you so many goodies that come with the pistol including green or red fiber optic front sights, several size back straps, a holster and a mag holster that holds two mags. I’m glad you said you like the xds over the Glock to give you some credibility and proved you’re not just a Glock fanboy. I would trust my life with this Springfield 100%

    I can't really speak on the 43 bc I haven't shot one. I have shot the XDs along with many in the XD series of pistols.
    However I have compared the 5 in XD to the Glock 17 both in 9mm. Both are accurate guns right out of the box, however I can get better groups and accuracy in faster shooting with an XD. With all Glocks I shoot high due to the angle of the grip and it just doesn't work for me. I have to remember to break my wrist down whenever I shoot Glocks to hit the bullseye. To me I have to think to much when I shoot a Glock. Coming from shooting 1911s, Rugers, Sigs and Berettas as a kid the XD was just more natural for me to pick up and shoot.
    I'm tired of this Glock vs Springfield vs Smith and Wesson argument. All are good guns. All are reliable guns. Some people are better with a certain gun and they fit everyone's hands differently. The fanboys just need to chill out and realize their gun is not the be all end all. Springfields jam and blow up with bad ammo, but so do Glocks. Hell I even had a Sig MK25 come in blown up. No gun is 100% impervious to bad quality ammo that is just the nature of the manufacture process

    I had the 10 mm Glock... but because of a negligent discharge (gun went BANG without me touching the trigger) I got rid of it and will never own another one!!! I have a Springfield XD .45 tactical ...I've had for 8 or 9 years I've never had a FTF OR FTE ..
    Whenever i ask a Glock fanboy ..why are Glocks so great? they say "because it's a Glock it's perfect"
    ... But then I ask them what all have you done to the gun?.. And they say... I change the sights, I change the barrel, I change the trigger, change the transfer bar, had it stippled, put in an extended mag release etc...
    Then I reply if it was "perfect" why did you change every thing on the gun?
    Then I usually get some sort of blank look on their face.. or the story of how nothing was wrong with it.. but they spent 3 or 4 or $500 fixing stuff that didn't need to be fixed...
    I've had my XD Tactical for 8 or 9 years the only thing I've ever done to it is ...SHOOT IT.. The only thing I bought for it is ammo...

I have a really bad back and hip, due to an injury, so the weight difference was what sent me to the Glock. A few ounces don't seem like much to some, but it allows me to carry all day comfortably. I will admit, I miss the XD-s 45 at the range. It's just a fun little hand cannon to shoot.

    Both great and reliable guns. I give an edge to the XDS for a few reasons:
    -The backstrap safety is a plus for me because it adds one additional safety feature that allows you to carry with a round in the chamber without worry , the grip safety does not get in the way of the guns performance nor makes you second guess the readiness of the pistol if you need to pull it out
    -optics out of the box are better
    -trigger is better
    -grip, purchase, and handling is much better out of the box
    -handles recoil slightly better because of weight

      @NGMonocrom 7 лет назад +1

      Hope I can help, Troy. I'd say take a serious look at the the Kahr PM9, along with the Glock 43. When both are fully loaded, the Kahr is about 1.2 ounces lighter. Capacity is the same. But the Kahr barrel is nearly 1 inch shorter. The only disadvantages Kahr pistols have are the following:
      1) Stay away from any chambered in .45 ACP. Kahr makes fantastic pistols, overall. But can't seem to come up with a winning formula for chambering the .45 ACP. Their other chamberings are fantastic though.
      2) The mags don't sit absolutely, perfectly flush when inserted. Literally their biggest disadvantage. In my opinion, that's like going out with a hot woman who cooks, cleans, puts out for you, is willing to do whatever she can to make you happy.... But you decide to dump her because she has a small, ugly scar, hidden behind her left ear; usually covered up by her long hair. Sound like a good reason to dump her? Well, some folks actually harp on this tiny issue with Kahr pistols. An issue that doesn't effect reliability one bit.
      3) Sometimes they can be a bit finicky regarding what you feed them. To me, not much of an issue. Just select your Top 3 favorite self-defense loads in .9mm and go to town at the range for a few hours. Whichever one it likes best, (heck, maybe all three of them) that's the one you use during your daily carry.
      4) This will matter to older individuals. I'm talking grand-pa age range. Owner of the company is the son of the leader of the Moonies. A religious cult very prevalent at one time. So much so that Saturday Night Live did a funny but very disrespectful sketch about them. Back in 1977. Yup, that far back. Honestly, their influence is gone. Their power is gone. I've never heard of Kahr even remotely promoting the Moonies to their customers.
      Advantages:
      1) Their triggers. Not just one of the best in the industry, but literally the best. Kahr puts literally every other brand to shame. Stacking, creep, long take-up, mushiness.... All things you will NOT find in a Kahr's trigger.
      2) Stay away from their .45s. Experiment a bit with your chosen ammo.... And you get Glock levels of reliability. You honestly do. And that's coming from someone who likes Glocks!
      3) The Kahr PM9 has the same capacity as the Glock 43. But you can get mags with a pinky extension that adds one extra round in the magazine from the factory.
      4) More useable slide stop/slide release over the 43. In a real-world S.D. encounter, your shooting hand is likely to get shot. You may need to reload using your weak hand and start firing with it too. While bigger than the one on the 43, it's not so big that it gets in the way of good concealed carry. Much easier to hit with the index finger on your left hand to complete reloading the gun.
      5) Ready to go right out of the box. While the stock Glock 43 is very good, it needs some aftermarket work for you to get the gun's full potential out of it. Sadly, Glock listened to the critics who said the Gen. 3 grip was too aggressive. Not of a fan of the gentler Gen. 4 grip on the gun. So, talon Grips for it are a must. And I'm sorry, but the stock plastic sights are not good enough. Thankfully metal ones are easy to find. But they're not free. The trigger just isn't as good as what's found on other Glock models. So you have to pay a gunsmith to lighten it somewhat, and smooth it out. Finally, if you prefer the pinky extension; aftermarket add-on is the only way to get a 7th round in the mag. (Look into Taran Tactical.)
      Kahr has a slightly less expensive, just a bit less refined line of pistols. But if the Glock 43 is a consideration, the top-of-the-line Kahr models should be too. Either model should fit your needs. But just realize the Glock 43 in stock form is not performing at its absolute best. Hope this helped.

      Glock is like a Ford F150. Pretty when you buy it, no options to speak of, works good. And when it wears out you just throw it out and get a new one. I don't put much faith in most polymer striker fired guns because I consider them cheap pos. But you can get a Springfield for about the same price and you'll be supporting an American company where 99% of the profits stay in this country. And you get a gun that you won't have to change out the sights and trigger as soon as you buy it as you do with the Glock. And that doesn't consider Glock selling guns to ISIS and Al qaida.

    I compared the 2 and bought the XDS 3.3 9mm. I paid about $450 vs $600 for the Glock. The XDS has better sights, better trigger, I liked the textured grip and since I wear XXL gloves the bigger size with switchable back straps just fit my hand better. It also came with 4 mags, a holster, and I ordered the 9 round mag from the factory and it works great. Glock mags are cheap looking and don't fit in a straight clean line like the XDS. It also came with green fiber optics and a spare red fiber optics. It was just a better gun, at a better price. You couldn't ask for more.

    G43. I think grip safety is the most pointless thing ever and also not a fan of the xd or xds series

      +Zane Gardner I'm 50/50 on that. I've never had it become an issue, but if you're struggling to fire a gun, and you grab it awkwardly, it may not fire. OTOH it's added reassurance for someone who was new to carrying with one in the pipe. It's also a plus for reholstering. My previous carry was a Nano, and the longer/heavier than usual pull was comforting... but it had reliability issues.

      ***** I guess. It's just when you pick up the gun it's automatically engaged making it just like any other gun without a safety defeating the purpose.

      +Chad_83 How is the grip safety a plus for reholstering? I'm not sure why it would be, can you elaborate?

      +Zane Gardner The XD series has the striker cocked all the way back when it's been chambered. The glock is like halfway cocked. When you pull the trigger on the glock you are actually loading the striker the rest of the way. With the XD you're just releasing the sear. So it's more of a single action trigger which gives you the better trigger pull. That's why it has a grip safety.

      ***** sounds stupid cause their triggers suck. And seeing that the XD pistols were 300 dollars before springfield bought the pistol from a over seas company and put thier label on it and charged 300 more dollars for a label. Bullshit
