I just wanted to say, not only do you really know your shizzle, you are such a nice person to listen do-- so pleasant, unassuming and easy to follow what you say (cool accent too; but who am I to say "accent", as I'm from NY). Very helpful video!
Mate thank you so so much for those kind words. You have made my day my good man. Thank you for the support and thank you for spending time to comment. 🤘💀🤘
I got the rack and rack control yesterday, wow! I'm impressed you tube vids just don't do it justice, it's like an instrument you have to learn it to get the most out it, thanks to these videos I was already familiar with the basic functions without having to crack the Manuel yet, updating and setting up was a piece of cake so far I'm glad I decided the helix instead of shelling out 2500$ for axe-fx 3 coming out that would of drained my gear buying budget for awhile got a long ways to go n learning this fine piece of gear, but having a blast getting there
Great videos dude! Sold my Kemper 2 weeks ago (never bonded with it) and got my Helix this week. Watched a lot of videos but yours put me over the edge. Your both funny and informative and excited over the Helix. Looking forward to more of your videos even though I think you covered enough to get started discovering the power of this unit. Steve
Nice review Paul. I've owned Helix for about a month now and I can set up some pretty complex, incredible sounding presets in less than a minute and a half. Piece of cake. Pretty much, if you can think it, Helix can do it. Best piece of gear I've ever tried or owned.
True. Ok, i go for the IRT, also my entire rig will be Laney, witch is quite nice i think👌, with the Helix. Thank you very much for the nice chat, i wished we had the possibility to chat about these things/gear in Belgium, on the same level or with persons who are as wel informed and experienced as you are Paul. Thanks again mate, you were a great help! Cheers, Steve.
I certainly will! Btw, my "heavy duty" rigg for the bigger shows contains a Blackstar series one 200 + cab in combination with a Fender Twin for the cleans in stereo, all this controlled by an TC electronic G System and a couple of pedals in the loops...in your words: sounds massif 😀😀
Hi Paul, it's Steve again. I have all the gear i wanted since a week now, and it sounds really amazing, super toys 😁 I have a question, i would like a wet signal in all my speakers, because i'm gonna use my IRTx's as monitors in front of me in some occasions. So what would be the best method in cabling things up with the Helix/IRT head and IRTx's? Thx & regards Steve. Btw: nice new vids you have there 👌👍
What most of us look for is how to reproduce those tones that are heard in Helix's videos. Through the different brands of frfr speakers, real speakers, PA, amplifiers that work very well with stomboxes, such as the Fender Princeton. but as much as I try I mean adjustments in the equalizations, compressors, changes in the signal chain. etc. We never found, mainly with distortions and amplifier emulators.
I am pulling the trigger for a Helix and can't wait to upgrade my HD500 to this. Was looking at the new EleventhRack, but really want something to mate with my Variax JTV59. When I use it, it makes the combination a huge toolbox of tone/guitars. Thanks for these videos. It will help me get an idea on the unit before I get it.
This is one of the videos that make me to get the Helix instead of the AX8. The Helix is so easy to use, miles ahead of Fractal. Although Fractal products sounds a bit better, Line 6 will get better with every update. Thanks, Paul!!!
This demo is the first thing I've watched on your channel and I'm very impressed. You have included everything a good gear demo should have including viewer feedback, in depth explanations and great video/audio. I can't believe I've never seen your videos before. Great job. You've earned my subscription easily and I'm fairly selective. .
Loved the clean/jazzy tones you were playing for a few seconds there. There are quite a few overdriven/distorted reviews and tone samples on RUclips already, but hardly any clean tone examples, so thanks for touching briefly on that. More clean stuff to come maybe?
Just the tone at the start of the video was already great. I've got an AXEFXII but I'm ready to try a Helix. I spend way too much time tweaking the Fractal to get a tone. You turned on the Recto block and it was instantly usable.
GREAT demo, Paul !! I'm an amateur guitarist, I play guitar by myself and just do a lot of recording at home. I'm so on the fence between the Helix and a Kemper. As a non-professional, I don't feel I'm qualified enough to know which one to choose. This does sound awesome!
man for me the kemper is an end game machine. you load a preset and sound awesome and it does...the helix is an all in one salution to every problem i have ever had but you need to tweak alittle. saying that the custom tone sharing on the line 6 page is epic for getting a truely great sound straight away.
Been demoing a helix that my friend just purchased. Yes it sounds great! But just as inportantly if not more so, It feels great. As soon as I started playing through it I felt very inspired. Regarding connectivity, they thought of everything. Im no longer contemplating getting an axeFX. However I thought there was a editor app!??? It it would be great if it could live inside of a DAW like the eleven rack does to Pro Tools. Being able to save the preset at the audio region/clip level Is so effing handy!! SO much so that I don't see myself letting go of my eleven rack anytime in the future. 11R not nearly as inspiring to play thru but I like some of the Utilities.
good vid. Paul, I think it would be good to not only play all of the suggested guitar tones that you've been requested to do (cleans with effects is def. a big plus, thanks Anik lol) but you should totally show us the bass tones and cabs this thing has. I think it has like 7 bass amp models? Then you could always make a track and loop the bass and guitar and then just solo over whatever you come up with to really showcase the power of this thing, just some thoughts.
Just had a chance to watch your vid on the 4 cable method and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all the advice. So far everything is overpowered and saturated. I've got some good patches off the custom tone page but the majority of them still need some major tweaking.
outstanding video! would really like to hear all the amps with no fx. also interested to get your views on bi-amping and hear some hi gain patches; and generally any tips on creating a big sound without resorting to massive amounts of delay. if it can do harmonisation, would be good to hear a wee bit of that too. Keep up the great work mate!
will do dude, bi amping just sounds massive but I find bi cabinets do just as good a job. we will make this happen man thanks for the kind words and comment broface!
you are very welcome :). Been watching your vids for a while (first time commenter). totally forgot to ask about virtually driving a virtual clean amp into virtual power amp overdrive. A couple of examples of that would be great. I feel like I'm writing my list to Santa! :P
I dont know if you have bought one yet,but you will not be disappointed. The helix is a completely different animal if compared to the pod hd..Thats why I was reluctant at first.I bought one and really like it.You will too.
Paul love your video, thanks. I am truly a beginner and am trying to learn about the “hows and whys” of all this stuff. I ordered the Helix floor and a QSC K12.2 speaker because it just makes sense to have so much capability in one place. I am using an XLR cable from Helix to speaker and don’t even know which input on the speaker I should use! Haha. Wondering about the settings on the speaker and then the Helix itself? Looking forward to a huge learning curve and a lifetime figuring this stuff out. Thanks again. Gary
Gary Anderson mate youve come to the righr place iam going to be looking at day 1 learning and gear, the stuff no one covers man. Keep uo to date with us dude. We got your back.
really, really great paul. i'm looking forward to more. hopefully, line 6 will provide you a rack mounted helix to review in the very near future. great job!
Can you assign the same amp/pedal to 2 different footswitches? Like if you were doing a gig and you were calling the footswitches the song names and for 1 song you wanted the tone of another song but with maybe a couple of different effects.
Great work! One of the best demo's I've seen so far, no bullshit useful info covering various features in no time, thanks :) One thing I'd like to see (clarify?) when you set up the minotaur pedal, were you able to to have both that switched on and the other All in One preset on at the same time? Could you have switched between the clean and dirt sounds with the minotaur sound on? I'd really like to be able to have a preset sound that switches like the your all in one, then have other stomp like switches where I can add a delay+boost for a solo or phaser or tremolo for a different part of the song. It looks possible but couldn't quite work out if that's what you were doing. Thanks for a great demo!
Gabriel Bizcarra yeah dude you can do what you've suggested and could use snapshots as well. Thank you for the kind words also please let people know about us.
Ok 👍 thanx again Paul! Maybe just one more thing, stays the IRT 60 clean channel really clean when you push the volume in live situations with a live band? Because i really need the clean tones also. Grtz. Steve.
Steve Van De Wiele yeah dude its super clean. if you are worried go for a 120 watt head but my 60s are well loud enough for most live applications. also remember stage volume us now not as needed as it used to be.
Can you make a video of going through all the amps dry with no effects. I want to hear how each amp sounds like. I'm thinking of getting a Helix in a couple of months but saving up for one right now. Thanks!
Awesome video. Just got my Helix. Tired of lugging around my JVM-410h and cab, and effects, and ... Hoping to get this configured for live shows going direct. I was trying to download your All In One patch but can't get to it from the US. Is it posted anywhere else? Thanks for the informative video. Really helped get me started with the Helix.
Thanks dude. man i dont how to get it to you other than the custom tone page. you could try and dial it in from the vid? Mate thank you again for the kind words.
Be good to hear how you load up the helix into DT range of amps. Front, FX Loop, L6 Link (or whatever its called now). I have DT25 Head with two DT112 (1 x 12) cabs and have never really got close to a decent tone (with 500X) Maybe I need some info on which Channel (1 x 4) and the best EQ (and / or cab / no cab selection) when using the Helix. I also run a 50w Marshall and a 1960 cab and that sounds OK. Don't have the Helix yet but just stocking up on info. Keep the vids coming Paul. Ta. Steve
+Paul Glover Hey Paul. Helix arrived yesterday. Only had about and hour setting up but sounds good through the DAW. Watched all the vids etc. but would still welcome tips on hooking into DT's. First attempt produced a sound so quiet and distant I can only assume I am doing something wrong (Both with DT Link and into front of amp). Could be the amp even!I read somewhere about setting output volumes high but not sure what this means. Your wisdom is urgently needed. Cheers and thanks again for the videos and feedback.
Is there a way to set it up so that the footwitches are entire tone settings? One footswitch being clean amp with a nice reverb and delay, another footswitch being a crunchy amp with delay, another being a full amp tone (perhaps your real tube head) so that you get the best of both worlds? This could finally be the way I do all of my crazy studio stuff live
Yes helix can do all of that mate. The routing options on this thing are unbelievable. What you suggest would be snapshots for tones then a fx loop block for your 4CM to your real head. Man the force is strong with Helix. 🧟♂️
Paul Glover that’s amazing, seriously. Line 6 was always impressive even back in the days of the guitarport which was my intro to recording. Even then the effects sounded great, now to have this level of control over your amp and route effects separately into it as well like your favorite pedals too? I’m sold I need this thing in my life. I’m sure it’ll replace a lot of gear in my studio as well
Just got my Helix last night and plugged it into my DT25. Everything sounds beefy and not in a good way lol. Gotta figure it out a bit more. Just ran through the preloaded presets.
dude thw DT25 is a monster amp. id go 4 cable or just direct i to the effects return dude. use pre models without cab emulation. Have a tibker un the templates section as well man alot can be gleaned.
Paul Glover thanks for the feedback and advice Paul. I could literally hear your voice while reading your message lol. I'll try the 4 cable method tonight and see what happens. I tried running with the XLR but it sounded like crap so now I'm just going directly into the front input. Still sounds bassy and muffled. Better but not as good as what you've got going. Wish I was a bit more tech savvy lol but I am making some headway. Thanks again
Anyone who says they can't get a good sound out of a Helix has not tried very hard. Even many of the presets it comes with are fabulous starting points. I know there are Tube Amp and analog pedal snobs, but at the end of the day these things can sound amazing. You need to invest a little time (you have to do that with Tube Amps and analog pedals too). You CAN get amazing tone from this and any of the recent Modelers. If you can't. Well....... You can't...
What I would love to see (and so would many others) is the options in setting up a preset with a Varian guitar. I'm not sure how to assign tunings and instruments within a preset. I'd like to have an "all in one" preset that I can assign different tunings and guitars to foot-switches. Something that can do an acoustic with a DADGAD tuning into a dirty E-flat tuning Tele without changing presets. I've found the Helix to be very intuitive, but incredibly deep, which makes learning the ins and outs tough.
New to the helix and playing to a Mesa boogie mark V amp. Your tones are killer.... What I don’t know or how to even start is how to get the most out of this with my amp and helix. For example, should I use 4 cable method or how to route signal if I use amp models or cabs🤷🏻♂️ Sometimes I feel like I’m double stacking the preamp sections or power sections I’m just not quite sure how to set the tone up properly with the signal path or the different combinations I can use. You are going to front of house which is awesome but I’m curious how to use at home or in jamming situations or maybe even a gig in traditional kinda way. Pedal and amp, at least for now cause this thing is complex 😫
I do have a 4 cable method video buddy as well as using a wet dry wet rig but to simplify if you are using your amp tone use 4cm if your using helix but using amp as a power amp use pre-amp models in helix or head modals. If your going front of house use full amp and cab. If you would like a more personal and detailed description, i could do a 121 online tutorial with you? Hit me up on face book and we could book a lesson in over skype or zoom. 🤟🧟♂️🤟
@@PaulGlover ya I kinda got that part. Just not sure if you’re using the preamp where are you insert the FX loop in the chain or do you not just to make sure there’s no double stacking. I appreciate your help. 🤟🏻 if I fail I’ll be back for advice $$$$🤣
Looks like they are up. Thanks Paul, great channel and excellent playing. I have a helix but sometimes it can be tough to get exactly the tone in your head from it. I am still learning and it is great to learn from folks that are using it as well.
Can you do a comparison of imported IR's as opposed to the stock ones? So far the Helix looks and sounds pretty good, if Tony McKenzie thinks its good then it must be good as he usually slags Line 6 stuff mercilessly. Nice demo with the amp switching. I have to admit the interface on Helix is nothing short of brilliant. Also, have you used any of the effects loops yet? Thanks.
+DrRussPhd All coming soon in the Vids dude, next up is using your favourite amp, 4cm and powered monitors wet dry wet, but we will endeavour to get all your needs and desires demoed or answered mate.
Hi Paul, Great Video. Thanks. Just got a Helix LT yesterday and still figuring it out. So your video really helps. I have the same Ibanez Prestige RG652AHM NGB guitar so your patches should work well for me. :)))) What's the patch you're using at 0.52? Is it available for download?
Think it was just some thing i set up for the intro dude. It would have been soldano lead or triple rec with simple delay and plate reverb? Thats my usual go to tone. Ps well done on your rig man great guitar and effects/modeller combo going on there.
Thanks Paul. Have downloaded the patches from the link. Great stuff mate, saves me some time making similar patches. :) You're right, the guitar and pedal is a great combination. Was planning to go for a Helix Rack or the main Helix but then just went for the Helix LT since it is the same but with less inputs/ outputs, which I don't really need. I do miss a separate Headphone Volume though but I can live with that. Okay one more question: Do you recommend recording directly from the USB of the Helix LT into Logic X or should I connect the Helix LT to my audio interface (Apogee Element or MOTU 828 MK3 Hybrid) for a better recording quality into my iMac?
prashbez give both a go mate. I use my interface but the usb sounds great too......there is no reason just that my gear is already plumbed in like that. But dude i recommend trying both out?
1) Any news related to a "Helix Editor for Windows"? Is far more easier to deal with patches on a BIG screen (in special for those, like me, who works with pedalboards... ON THE FLOOR!). 2) Have you tried the send-return entries with "physical pedals" and combine them in some patches (positioning them on any "part" of the patch)? 3) It can work as a "digital pedalboard + PA" and, with the 04 send-returns as... a very powerful switcher, am I wrong? Regards from Brazil! :-)
editor is coming soon I think but the screen on board is so good I don't think you need one. I have tried pedals in the loops and they are clear and transparent as for the running 4 outputs to the PA then yes you are right buddy thus thing can do it all.
+Paul Glover Thanks for you answer. But... As I've mentioned, my pedalboards are used on the floor! How can I manipulate that "awesome screen" and those "joystick-like controls" with my feet wearing shoes? In addition, all buttons and controls seem extremely fragile. So a software for patches edition is critical. The HD500 editor was very good. I hope something even better for Helix. BESIDES...I'm still concerned about the enumerous reported bugs in Line 6's HELIX forums. There are several reports of defects related to the expression pedal, system crashes, defective LEDs, digital displays defectives etc. I live in Brazil and I certainly will have difficulty obtaining technical assistance or possible replacement of a high value equipment. I will wait at least another year until all the bugs become fixed and a 'Helix Editor for Windows " released ;-)
I have a fender mustang system and I would love to hear the clean sparkly sounds from the Helix and compare them with the mustang system. Also I would like to see how the Helix behaves when plugged into a regular guitar amp. As always, Thanks guys for all the awesome videos! 😎
Hey Paul, I love your videos, they absolutely contributed to me buying my helix. For some reason though, I just can't get my tones to have quite as much balls as yours. Is there anything else you're doing here, or are you really just going clean into Logic? My tones don't really have that 'real amp' feel to them. I get them better using IRs, but i don't know... I'm lacking ... something.
+Paul Glover I've tried a few things. Firstly studio headphones, which i expect to be a bit... placeholder. Then a pair of studio monitors (Tapco S5) and now into a Laney IRT-X. each has their own benefit, but can't hit the all rounder. I haven't yet tried using my JCM 2000 combo in the return, but then I'd have issues recording.
Just got my helix a week ago. I ran the 4 cable method. When I use my Blackstar HT Metal 60 tube amp I can get amazing squealing harmonics and when I switch to use the line 6 helix amps running threw the Blackstar they sound muted and running the same effects on each. Is there something I am doing wrong?
Brad Gore you need to see your new amp block as a new head so use your eq until it cones to life. also remember your running just the amp pre block and not a full amp or amp and speaker block. if you still find the sound lacking life use an eq block and tinker until you get what you need.
+Jason Kessenich yes you can have them all center or 3 on the left 1 on the right etc etc have 1 on then turn another on and that last one off. It is so easy to use and route and sounds epic.
Great video, very informative. Very quick question, I am not in a band or own a studio and am just a bedroom guitarist and play for my own enjoyment. Is this system a bit too high end for someone like me or can just the casual user enjoy this? I currently use Amplitube 4 through monitors and it's ok but the tones don't get me excited and would love something like this to play with?
Helix for me mate. Its just easier for beginners and more in depth for pros, so it kinda grows with you. You just cant get it to sound bad. Go with the LT and save some money.
I was wondering if you can make a patch of a Rectifier/Bogner something similar to Mark Tremonti from the band Tremonti. I love his tone on both albums and I was wondering if you could make a patch that could capture that tone? Thanks. BTW I subscribed to your channel. Can't wait to see more videos on the Helix.
+Trey Mendoza I will be doing "Rig a likes" with Helix, got a few in mind but this will make the list bro. going to find out what gear the artist uses, then load up a like for like preset in Helix tweak it and record some riffs.
Nice! I'm excited to see what you come up with. I'm going to order a Helix in the coming months and just wait for it to come in. I'm using the line 6 HD 500x right now and liking what sounds i'm getting out of it but with the Helix and having the ability to load IR cabs into the Helix is a major game changer. Plus having all that DSP power behind the Helix makes it great for running several effects at once. This will make Ambient sounds work a lot better. I use an Ambient sound for the band I'm in now in one of our new songs and I know the Helix will sound a lot better. I'm curious does the Helix come with a case or some kind a bag to lug it around?
Hi Paul. Thanks for a really informative set of videos on the Helix. I have had a POD X3 Live for a number of years but have never really got on with it. It is really difficult to dial in set ups and the presets it comes with aren't great. However, I do like the ability to DI for recording purposes so am interested in swapping it for the Helix. In your opinion, does the Helix address the issues I have had with the POD ? Cheers.
I used a vetta 2 for years then a pod hd500 then a hd500x this thing is night and day, better models, infinite routing options and great effects with a ton of dsp. man the future is here and it's helix shaped. lol
Hi Paul....Would you be able to compare "Helix vs Amplifire - Atomic (Studio Devil ).....Because price difference.....approx 1/3 to 1/4 between the two. The Amplifire is just as easy and quick to dial in......Looking forward to your review? THX
Amazing reviews Paul, congrats i am a fan! I am gonne buy the Helix and want to use it in combination with a Mesa 2:90 rack amp and 2 X 12 IRT cabs. I also gonna order 2 of the IRT-X monitors for the wide stereo sounds. The only thing is, i don't have send and return on the Mesa, should this be any problem for my sounds, overdrives or do i have to simulate this with the preamps in the Helix? Many thanks, friendly regards, Steve (Belgium)
Steve Van De Wiele yeah dude as you are not getting any pre amp fron the mesa and that the IRT X are powered you will just route stereo effects to the irt x's and dry or mono effects to the mesa. mate that rig will sound massive. great rig man.
Wow, i didn't expect such a fast response, i'm even a bigger fan now 😉 Thank you for the advice and taking away my doubts. I've always thought that i had to use send & return to get the best results with the Helix and didn't now if it was ok to combine it with the Helix. Thanks again Paul!
You mentioned playing through a venue PA for this video. Did you mean the Fender Passport Venue PA System? I'm curious because I might get one to work with my Helix. I have a Marshal JVM 210 combo and to be honest I an new to all this and still trying to figure out how to connect all this stuff. Thanks!
Could you demo the pitch block to detune the guitar to show how it tracks. I'm sure it's the old L6 Pitch Glide. I'm wondering with the massive dsp if it tracks extra nice to say drop a standard tuned guitar to B.
Hey Paul, at home I'm using helix with my KRK Rokit 5. Great sound but for some reason I can't fall in love with it. May be because of 5" speakers? It's plugged in directly back of the rokits. What do you use at home? Low volume is important for me.
Really enjoyed the video. I was wondering if you could tell me the exact cab, delays, reverb, etc., you used in the All in One preset. I want to use this preset as a starting point while I get more comfortable with the helix.
what stand is the helix siting on for your demo video? Boring I know, I just ordered the helix and would like to get it off the floor and or desk. Many thanks!
I would love to hear one amp at a time, no fx, with each cab available. im also very interested in the quality or the reverbs....so like a dirty tone with each verb & and a clean with each verb. that would make me happy. I know the rest is cool. thanx
HI Paul . .was wondering if you've played the Fractal Ax FX or their new AX8. AX8 looks really good and seems to sound better ( thru youtube) than the Helix but the interface is nowhere near as easy to use, plus it won't do dual amps at once, but has an "X/Y" switch to flip between 2. I was just curious if you've had any experience with Fractal. Thanks again for posting all these vids.
How are you getting to a blank "new preset" screen? I'd like to start some of my own patches from scratch rather than modifying existing factory presets. Also, it is normal for the footswitch buttons to not change channels simply by touching them, right out of the box? I have to physically push the buttons just like any other footswitch to get them to change. Do I need to "program" something or is mine defective out of the box?
You need a poweramp or powered cabinet to use this with. There are many FRFR units out there that mate up great with these modelers. Line6 make the stage source series that go with the Helix or Pods. There are also other options out there for powered united. Line6 also has the DT series which I have with my POD HD500 which you can get the benefit of a tunable tube power section for a more organic sound.
I've always regretted selling my JC-120, but the Helix model for the JC is beautiful! This unit is stunning...
I'm impressed you tube vids just don't do it justice, it's like an instrument you have to learn it to get the most out it, thanks to these videos I was already familiar with the basic functions without having to crack the Manuel yet, updating and setting up was a piece of cake so far I'm glad I decided the helix instead of shelling out 2500$ for axe-fx 3 coming out that would of drained my gear buying budget for awhile got a long ways to go n learning this fine piece of gear, but having a blast getting there
I am really starting to get excited like you are when you see how easy it is to assign a foot controller and do the multiple assigns is fantastic!!!
Steve
Steve your awesome thank mate really means a lot to get good feedback. peace brother
Nice review Paul. I've owned Helix for about a month now and I can set up some pretty complex, incredible sounding presets in less than a minute and a half. Piece of cake. Pretty much, if you can think it, Helix can do it. Best piece of gear I've ever tried or owned.
Man I am loving it. ease of use and amazing sounds. what more is there? thanks for the comment man.
Steve Van De Wiele no worries man i love this shit. Good look and let us all know how you get on.
I have all the gear i wanted since a week now, and it sounds really amazing, super toys 😁
I have a question, i would like a wet signal in all my speakers, because i'm gonna use my IRTx's as monitors in front of me in some occasions. So what would be the best method in cabling things up with the Helix/IRT head and IRTx's?
Thx & regards
Steve.
Btw: nice new vids you have there 👌👍

GREAT video, man! Just got my Helix LT and wanted some how-to and here you were! Will stay posted for more!
I am pulling the trigger for a Helix and can't wait to upgrade my HD500 to this. Was looking at the new EleventhRack, but really want something to mate with my Variax JTV59. When I use it, it makes the combination a huge toolbox of tone/guitars.

This is one of the videos that make me to get the Helix instead of the AX8. The Helix is so easy to use, miles ahead of Fractal. Although Fractal products sounds a bit better, Line 6 will get better with every update. Thanks, Paul!!!
thank you dude!
This demo is the first thing I've watched on your channel and I'm very impressed. You have included everything a good gear demo should have including viewer feedback, in depth explanations and great video/audio. I can't believe I've never seen your videos before. Great job. You've earned my subscription easily and I'm fairly selective. .
high praise. Thanks buddy.
Loved the clean/jazzy tones you were playing for a few seconds there. There are quite a few overdriven/distorted reviews and tone samples on RUclips already, but hardly any clean tone examples, so thanks for touching briefly on that. More clean stuff to come maybe?
will do Bro.
+Paul Glover You rock! Thanks, man. Eagerly awaiting my Helix and watching these vids to hold me over until it gets here :)
Getting mine today to pair with the stage source L2T speakers I currently use with my Pod HD500X. Hope I am not disappointed.
Just picked this up today. Your video was super helpful. I'll be watching a bunch more. Thanks.
Just the tone at the start of the video was already great. I've got an AXEFXII but I'm ready to try a Helix. I spend way too much time tweaking the Fractal to get a tone. You turned on the Recto block and it was instantly usable.
schlagdog they are amazing units mate.
Looking forward to more in this series. The Helix is a game changer.
Very informative....my helix will arrive in 3days and these tutorials are helping me out big time!
Thank you
GREAT demo, Paul !!
Then you could always make a track and loop the bass and guitar and then just solo over whatever you come up with to really showcase the power of this thing, just some thoughts.
thanks an amazing idea dude face well done.
Very educational video. I want a Helix so bad, lol. Great job on this video bro.
+DeathByHumbuckers will do brogan.
when you know the rest of world is doing crappy demos of a product, come watch paul's channel:) best metal tones ive heard on this thing.
Great playing and nice guy. Thanks!
Christian thanks dude. we love doing this and glad you dig. peace brother
Great review I am convinced a Helix is my next purchase.
yeah, after seeing this me too.
mine too an this helps pretty much
I dont know if you have bought one yet,but you will not be disappointed.
We got your back.
really, really great paul. i'm looking forward to more. hopefully, line 6 will provide you a rack mounted helix to review in the very near future. great job!
thanks David!
Best video you've ever posted
Can you assign the same amp/pedal to 2 different footswitches? Like if you were doing a gig and you were calling the footswitches the song names and for 1 song you wanted the tone of another song but with maybe a couple of different effects.
Great work! One of the best demo's I've seen so far, no bullshit useful info covering various features in no time, thanks :)
One thing I'd like to see (clarify?) when you set up the minotaur pedal, were you able to to have both that switched on and the other All in One preset on at the same time? Could you have switched between the clean and dirt sounds with the minotaur sound on?
I'd really like to be able to have a preset sound that switches like the your all in one, then have other stomp like switches where I can add a delay+boost for a solo or phaser or tremolo for a different part of the song. It looks possible but couldn't quite work out if that's what you were doing.
Thanks for a great demo!
Gabriel Bizcarra yeah dude you can do what you've suggested and could use snapshots as well. Thank you for the kind words also please let people know about us.
Can you show us strp by step how did you set up the patches??
@@patrickbig1960 watch from 16 minutes in brother it’s all there, that’s my usual workflow
Thanks Paul I don't want to get rid of My dt as it's a great amp but till the helix works with it hd500 it is.
Does Line 6 plan on adding DT control to the Helix or are they abandoning it?
I also want to know..
instant sub, this guy is topps! love the licks too :)
Mate thank you dude. really made my day.
thank you for the great vids! after watching your vids on the helix im really considering it, but i have wallet-moths atm haha.
Can you go direct to a pair of powered monitors and add irs for a better sound.
dunboozin yeah man i use it with 2 IRT X for smaller shows and it sounds killer.
Great video! Very helpful. Cheers brother
Joe Palmer any time dude 🧟♂️
Great stuff Paul, will you share your All in one patch?
will do man I'll post a link in the description when I do.
+Paul Moore Its in the description now buddy i have left out the amp switching so you can use this video as a little training wheel lol.
Thanks!
+Trey Mendoza Mate Part 2 is uploading now ruclips.net/video/DQbL7SYXIVY/видео.html this will make you very happy. enjoy dude face!
Nice one Paul, also beautiful guitar!
Thanks man.
I'd like to hear a few Gilmour/Floyd type tones from this unit. Impressed so far for sure.
That is an awesome guitar as well...
Ta. Steve
+prrolls Mate i also have a DT25 and love it, will do the line 6 Helix with DT25 no worries. Keep coming back man.
+Paul Glover Thanks Paul. Nice One.
Would be great to hear a clean amp with slight overdrive, sort of bluesy. And with a bit of reverb. Cheers
you got it man.
Must have one. I have a Kemper and have owned an Axe FX Ultra. Great unit. I may sell the Kemper. 😳
Thanks again
keep going man and let us know how you get on.
Hi, great video - I take it the rack version and the version you have here sound exactly the same? Thanks
I'm assuming yes.
If you cant....buy a kemper lol 🧟♂️
I love my Helix man 🧟♂️
@@PaulGlover LOL. I actually have a Kemper too and Love it along with my Helix LT and HX Effects..
@@RGMDG hahahha me too buddy lol 🧟♂️
What I would love to see (and so would many others) is the options in setting up a preset with a Varian guitar. I'm not sure how to assign tunings and instruments within a preset. I'd like to have an "all in one" preset that I can assign different tunings and guitars to foot-switches. Something that can do an acoustic with a DADGAD tuning into a dirty E-flat tuning Tele without changing presets.
I've found the Helix to be very intuitive, but incredibly deep, which makes learning the ins and outs tough.
don't have a variax dude. I'll see I'd I can get one mate.

don't have a variax dude. I'll see I'd I can get one mate.
@@TheZakkmylde lol yeah so pre amp only when running 4 cable. That way you only have one power amp. Sometimes though full amps sound bigger?
@@PaulGlover it’s my own fault for being a Man U fan. I don’t expect anyone to want to help me 🤣🤣🤣
@@TheZakkmylde hahhahahahhahahha aw mate iam so so sorry hahhahahha
I know it had been said but, would love the patches for this.
hope to get them up today mate.
Awesome video! Subscribed!
thanks dude.
Insanely awesome! :)
Can you cover it in 4CM please. And possibly its ability to control other units via MIDI ?
4cm coming in part 2 Bro. watch this space.
Great thanks Paul...
At minute 4 of the demo, clean sound seems very organic ;What is the signal chain used for this demo ?
Hi Paul, Great Video. Thanks. Just got a Helix LT yesterday and still figuring it out. So your video really helps. I have the same Ibanez Prestige RG652AHM NGB guitar so your patches should work well for me. :)))) What's the patch you're using at 0.52? Is it available for download?
Think it was just some thing i set up for the intro dude. It would have been soldano lead or triple rec with simple delay and plate reverb? Thats my usual go to tone. Ps well done on your rig man great guitar and effects/modeller combo going on there.
prashbez ps think if you follow the link it might be 80s tone? 🤞
Jesus! what a great sound 🎸🔊🎶
Thanks man. Yeah Helix for the win. 🧟♂️
Hey Paul,
I love your videos, they absolutely contributed to me buying my helix.
For some reason though, I just can't get my tones to have quite as much balls as yours. Is there anything else you're doing here, or are you really just going clean into Logic?
My tones don't really have that 'real amp' feel to them. I get them better using IRs, but i don't know... I'm lacking ... something.
no post eq at all mate. what monitors are you using buddy?
Thanks Paul!
Can you use one of your Jems in the next video? And what about making a super 80s rack shred tone?
haha haha dude you got it!
+Paul Glover I would love to see you playing through four amps at once :)
+Jason Kessenich with this rig it's possible man. The routing options are endless.
Awesome! Can you send those four amps all out the XLRs at once?
+Jason Kessenich yes you can have them all center or 3 on the left 1 on the right etc etc have 1 on then turn another on and that last one off. It is so easy to use and route and sounds epic.
Great video, very informative. Very quick question, I am not in a band or own a studio and am just a bedroom guitarist and play for my own enjoyment. Is this system a bit too high end for someone like me or can just the casual user enjoy this? I currently use Amplitube 4 through monitors and it's ok but the tones don't get me excited and would love something like this to play with?
thus is what you need buddy no matter where you play you are a guitarist and deserve the best! this thing in an inspiration machine.
+Paul Glover ha ha, thanks Paul. I'm going to watch the rest of your Helix vids and check my bank balance :-)
A most excellent video mate. Subbed! \m/
Hello Paul. Two years later yourvideo, what so you think, HELIX OR HEADRUSH? For amateur guitarrist like me no prfessional.THANKS
Helix for me mate. Its just easier for beginners and more in depth for pros, so it kinda grows with you. You just cant get it to sound bad. Go with the LT and save some money.
can you combine a marshal jcm 800 with the soldano lead to really hot rod it out...delay,,reverb,tubescreamer. thx
now that's a classic combo right there. dude it would be a pleasure lol
Great vid. How does the sound of the Helix compare to your HD500X? Are we all going to be selling out HD500s on eBay now the Helix is out?
it is a big step up in my opinion. for me running 4cm, my amps sound better though the Helix and I am getting a ton less hum.
Great demo! So it does have dual amp mode (like the X3 Live)?
Yes and more buddy you could run 4 amps if you wanted, the options are almost endless. 🧟♂️
Paul Glover thank!
@@SjaakShirly6559 anytime hombre 🧟♂️
start saving gig money.... that box sounds awesome.
I would like for you to line up an ambient tone of pedals for me and show how to set them up for the best sound ,I like your vids and I like my Helix
No man but it needs one......badly lol
I'm going to have to try to find something to carry it around
At Last, found someone that could explain in plane English how its done
Cheers.
I used a vetta 2 for years then a pod hd500 then a hd500x this thing is night and day, better models, infinite routing options and great effects with a ton of dsp. man the future is here and it's helix shaped. lol
Thanks for taking the time to respond. You can't get a much better endorsement than that. Looks like I'm off to the music shop ! Cheers Paul.
Hi Paul....Would you be able to compare "Helix vs Amplifire - Atomic (Studio Devil ).....Because price difference.....approx 1/3 to 1/4 between the two. The Amplifire is just as easy and quick to dial in......Looking forward to your review? THX
I'll try and get hold of one buddy, as soon as we do I'll post it on the channel.
Many thanks,
friendly regards, Steve (Belgium)
Steve Van De Wiele yeah dude as you are not getting any pre amp fron the mesa and that the IRT X are powered you will just route stereo effects to the irt x's and dry or mono effects to the mesa. mate that rig will sound massive. great rig man.
Wow, i didn't expect such a fast response, i'm even a bigger fan now 😉 Thank you for the advice and taking away my doubts. I've always thought that i had to use send & return to get the best results with the Helix and didn't now if it was ok to combine it with the Helix. Thanks again Paul!
Sorry, i meant combining with the Mesa...😅
great vid!!
Cheers fella. subbed. love these kinda channels
You mentioned playing through a venue PA for this video. Did you mean the Fender Passport Venue PA System? I'm curious because I might get one to work with my Helix. I have a Marshal JVM 210 combo and to be honest I an new to all this and still trying to figure out how to connect all this stuff. Thanks!
Brian Menke i was talking about a venue front of house PA mate. But the helix does sound great through most FrFr systems.
thanks for the afford this wil help me with my helix so much
having used the pod series for a while could you do a why upgrade video?
Could you demo the pitch block to detune the guitar to show how it tracks. I'm sure it's the old L6 Pitch Glide. I'm wondering with the massive dsp if it tracks extra nice to say drop a standard tuned guitar to B.
schlagdog i use this feature alot mate and it tracks very well. i use it to do drop tunings and it works flawlessly.
Paul Glover thanks. I actually think the PodHD500x works pretty good so I figured the extra DSP would even be better
Paul Glover what's the tone right at the start of the video? Sounds awesome. Recto?
schlagdog recto or 5150 they are my goto models.
Hey Paul, at home I'm using helix with my KRK Rokit 5. Great sound but for some reason I can't fall in love with it. May be because of 5" speakers? It's plugged in directly back of the rokits. What do you use at home? Low volume is important for me.
i run i to logic then through sone vintage reference stereo gear. try some IR cabs fro 3 sigma audio itll bring that thing to life.

I'd love to see a loaded impulse response that emulates an acoustic guitar
I'll see what we can do man.
+1 for this
Definitely synths. Can you try to get a Vangelis tone. Something Blade-Runner-esque? Thank you!!
Really enjoyed the video. I was wondering if you could tell me the exact cab, delays, reverb, etc., you used in the All in One preset. I want to use this preset as a starting point while I get more comfortable with the helix.
Its available on the line 6 tone share buddy. Iam using a new preset now so cant recall what i used lol. Should be detailed in the video though? 🧟♂️
Dude the link is in the description, just click it and away you go. 🧟♂️
Have you tried FRFR type speaker/monitor vs trad cab/speakers? Should you choose one over the other?
Thanks
what stand is the helix siting on for your demo video? Boring I know, I just ordered the helix and would like to get it off the floor and or desk. Many thanks!
awesome man!
Thanks again for posting all these vids.
what is the first thing/song that is played after the "dead will walk the earth" thing?
How are you getting to a blank "new preset" screen? I'd like to start some of my own patches from scratch rather than modifying existing factory presets.
Also, it is normal for the footswitch buttons to not change channels simply by touching them, right out of the box? I have to physically push the buttons just like any other footswitch to get them to change. Do I need to "program" something or is mine defective out of the box?
go to a blank set list dude there should be nothing in there. so say 4A?
Are you going to post the presets?
will do man. just need to get it saved over and uploaded.
+Eian Aldrich Done mate. The link is now in the description, with a few little additions i did after filming, fast patch is now called 80s.
+Eian Aldrich i have left out the amp switching so you can use this video as a little training wheel lol.
I play guitar in one band and bass in another. Sometimes we play shows together. Would I need 2 seperate units or just one?
Carl Mann you would only need one, because you have bass amps on the helix too and can safe the presets.
Do you need a power amp for this or can you just plug this into a cab or studio monitors and play?
You need a poweramp or powered cabinet to use this with. There are many FRFR units out there that mate up great with these modelers. Line6 make the stage source series that go with the Helix or Pods. There are also other options out there for powered united. Line6 also has the DT series which I have with my POD HD500 which you can get the benefit of a tunable tube power section for a more organic sound.
