Thank You Jason. It's easy to mistakenly assume something we've known for a long time is common knowledge. I upgraded from a Pod 500X to a Helix lite and thought I had a pretty good understanding of it since I've managed to create some deadly tones on my own. It turns out I didn't know I had a Ferrari and have been using it like a skateboard. I think more of these "beginner" tutorials would not go unappreciated. Again Thank You!
Thank you Jason!, I have only had my Helix floor for one week, I have never tried the preset edit and didn't realise you could do this with the expression controller .. what an incredible feature on an incredible piece of equipment.
This was EXTREMELY useful, and beautifully made. I just got my Helix today, and you've saved me a lot of PDF scrolling and searching. I appreciate your matter of fact editing and the general lack of hype in your presentation. Thank you.
Thanks. One thing I'll sometimes do if I'm not using my upper snapshots (5-8 for me), is type in little "reminders" in the scribble strips there, such as the song's key, guitar change, pickup position etc. Depending on your playing situation, it can help.
It's always good to revisit this sort of stuff. I've never even thought about pedal edit mode but what an easy way to level presets in a band situation !
I already knew a lot of that was there, but I just couldn't be bothered to explore it so much. Doing the walkthrough with your video here was enough to break me out of my rut, thanks.
Presets are great for song-specific sounds, but I generally use them to define a "rig" (stompboxes, amp+cab, effects) and then the snapshots are just different settings of a single rig (gain, FX on/off, etc). I like snap/stomp mode as I usually only have four snapshots in a preset similar to yours and have the option of turning 4 effects on/off on a whim. I have presets built around my favorite amps for a Fender sound, AC30, Plexi, JCM800, Revv Purple, or whatever. Then just pick the amp/preset that seems most appropriate for a given song. Snapshots are probably my favorite feature in the Helix. So powerful and easy to use.
Thank you! I just upgraded from a Pod Go and this is exactly what I needed. I hit the subscribe button two minutes into this video. Guys like me need Helix 101, followed by 102, 103, 201,202 and 203.
thanks so much for your videos and especially this one. Being a Helix user for a couple of days only I didn't know until know of that wonderful feature to be able to edit parameters of blocks with my foot on the go!
Wow, I really needed this! I’m trying to learn my Helix LT. Watching all your other videos really helped teach me all the Helix can do. Problem prior to this video was I had a hard time getting from my “start” to yours. This cleared up all the gaps for me. Hope you do more like this to help us newbies to intermediate stage so your advanced topics are doable.
I had some of the earlier Line 6 pedal boards and loved them. I recently got a Helix and have a JTV-69S Variax. I was aware of snapshots but a little sketchy on limitations and had no idea how to use them. Likewise I was thinking adjustments wi5h NY feet would be harder. Thanks again for this video.
I have the bottom row buttons set for song presets. Or 2, 3 or 4 buttons, if a songs takes than many. This is easy to follow and it also gives me a setlist. I write notes in the top row of buttons screens, because they are pretty worthless with my big feet anyway. The high variety in our band, the 6 members in the band and using the Variax negates any small advantage in patch switching smoothness. That's never been a problem. Snapshots are just too confusing for me playing and singing, etc.. My advice, do whatever works and don't let anyone tell you that you are doing it wrong, if it works.
Lean something new every day, the edit on the fly and snapshot in the bank area are handy features. My favourite is snapshots 8 as I play per song and is good for having different amp settings.
Great video. Another possibility is what the person is using it with. If I plug my Helix into one of my amps it sounds totally different that if I use the headphone out or I put it into Logic. Plugging into a 'real' guitar amp has its issues as well. Some presets love cab sims into the amp and some do not and can cause a lot of presets to sound the same. Regardless of wether I downloaded a presets from a user or use a factory preset I still have to tweak them for my situation. Yes this does take time but is worth it and like anything else the more you use it the easier it gets.
Yeah I'm running my helix through a headrush FRFR-112 and holy hell the low end is so boomy. I'm in the process of learning how to dial that out without it becoming thin and fizzy.
The title already spells out what I just found out a day ago: I didn't know shit, Lebowski. Adjusting the snapshots within presets was a gamechanger. XD
Jason…I had a problem with my Stomp where every amp model sounded the same and every gain pedal sounded the same…contacted Line 6 and they suggested a “factory reset”…now it works fine…but for a while there I was ready to throw it out the freakin window!!!!!
Just bought an helix LT brand new, that would keep freezing and crashing and wouldn’t update correctly. One of the more frustrating experiences I’ve had as far as electronics go. I sent it back and my new one should be here today, so I hope this experience is better. The pod go was a great experience.
Jason: Thank you for this helpful video. I just bought a new Helix, today after almost two months of fighting an HX Stomp. I finally realized I just wasn't going to be able to get the sounds I needed. Many presets are written for the Helix and it would be a pain to edit them and make them work in the HX Stomp. I habe already bought over $250 worth of presets for my HX Stomp. I also downloaded a few for my Helix. Let me ask you, if a pre-made preset has snapshots in it or has four different modes, (clean, distortion, chorus and delay), do I use the 8 Snapshot mode setup to find the other modes in my preset? I bought a Boston1976 preset and I thought it would be as easy as load the IR and the hlx file. My sound is nothing like the RUclips video made by the guy that sells the preset. So confusing!!
@ 11:15 , in stompbox mode , can you change the position of the effects and save or does it default to the global setting? Example if you wanted to put the bubble vibrato on the lower row.
Hi Jason Im wondering if youve tried the helix through the Catalyst yet? I picked up the Catalyst and am really enjoying it. I was thinking about picking up the helix and was wondering how to connect etc and whether or not the helix would be worth it seems as the catalyst has amp models of its own. I did think about the hx effects but like the idea of the expression pedal built for wah etc and the fact that i can adjust the impedance for fuzz
On the Helix LT, if I switch the global preset to “10 Switches” and also utilize the “Preset/Stomp” mode? I’d like to have access to 5 presets on the top row and 5 stomps on the bottom row. Is this possible with the new update?
Hi I just found your channel but I need help.. is there a was to take a complete factory presets like "cowboyz from dfw" for example and save it in my user bank? I can't figure it out and I'm kinda lost.

Good post Howard and exactly what I was thinking too!
These periodic "refreshers" are so valuable, thank you!!!

Thank you so much and really glad you enjoyed and that it was helpful :-)
Thank you. I got the Helix LT several months ago and i had nothing even close to the complexity of the Helix. Its still overwhelming. Your video helps

That's actually an amazing idea! Thanks for sharing.
This was EXTREMELY helpful for someone new to the Helix. Thank you!

Thanks Jason! Got my Helix two days ago and Iearned a lot in this video. Greetings from Germany!
Thank you Jason. This video helped very much. Appreciate your efforts.
My pleasure and glad it was helpful :-)

Brilliant…I spent an entire evening trying to figure out how to get out of ‘preset’ mode…sorted!
Thank you for illustrating this so clearly!

Thank you so much for this video. Jason, really helped me get some answers that I needed…
The manual is great for some light reading. I like the snapshots on top and stomps on the bottom.
all of your Helix videoa worth watching extremely helpful to me as a fairly new Helix owner Thanks
ks Jason!
Totally my pleasure and glad they are helpful 😀
What a great video! As a beginner/intermediate user these vids are so informative.
Thank you, this was a good refresher.
Thanks Jason, I love your videos and I am learning a lot, I love the fact that we can edit on the fly w/o bending down 🥰🥰🤗🤗🎸🎸
Thank you, sir. Looks like another magic door opened up for me. You don't know what you don't know. Who knew? You did and do!!!

Thanks Jason, just put the new update in and needed some revision
My pleasure and hope you are enjoying the new update!
Awesome bro! Very clear, great tutorial- def learned a bunch

Holy fuck! I'm so glad I watched this!
Didnt have a clue and yes would explain why the sound didnt seem to change much from preset to preset. Thx
excellent video btw! Thank you!

What is the device at the back of the room that changes color?
I have a stomp, I never use snapshots, then again I have a midi controller with 8 buttons
I've never had an epileptic seizure, but I might if there wasn't a setting to turn that stupid "TAP" light strobing off.
I am not worthy!
What's the different between Preset. And Stop Box mode.
