    Over the weekend, I gigged the Quad Cortex with a preset that was based on a Clean channel of a Mesa Lonestar, and the Dirty channel. It worked really well, and it has made me think about starting from scratch with my Helix gigging preset - and applying a more simple approach. Here is the end result!
    Please leave a comment if you find this type of preset build useful, so that I know to keep making them!

    I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!

    John, something I noticed about when you are saving your build: you tap the Save button and then go over to the Right Dial to confirm the save. Did you know that you can simply double-tap the Save button to save and confirm? Just taking your lead and sharing the knowledge. Thank you again. Aloha

    Wow, maybe your most fiery intro solo to date. Loved it! And a cool tone, too-really thick bottom end, but still very articulate. -Tom

    That was your best intro so far for me. I think it was because of form. Maybe because it was over a progression, and one I know at that. I loved the nods to the vocal melody. The lines and techniques seemed to have purpose. Now this is me just thinking about why I liked afterwards. When listening I just thought “this is f*cking great”

    Nice idea! I’ve found it easier to use a gain block at the start of the chain with the gain all the way down. Then you can disable or enable that block as your “channel switcher”. You can either map the bypasses to the same switch, or use snapshots to switch between.

    • @simongosimon
      @simongosimon Год назад +1

      Couldn't you in principal map the output volume of the chain to the snapshots, so that the gain "channel" is completely bypassed when on clean and vise-versa?

    The tone and inspired playing at around 1:50 is smoldering.
    I like this. Simplifying and starting from scratch is something I should do more often. Change and iterate.. Remove whatever is not necessary. Kind of the SpaceX approach lol. Remove any components that are not absolutely necessary until you get to the point where you need to add one back..

      @GlennMarshallRocks Год назад

      Yeah, I noticed that too... at 1:39 he switched to a snapshot that had considerably more reverb and a lot more delay (or echo) on it. those two effects added a lot more ambiance to the sound... very nice.

  • @jakestewartmusic

    I think keeping things simple is the way to go - so much power with snapshots in the Helix that you can do a LOT with the right blocks. I use the Ratatouille, Brit75Brt, and an Ownhammer 4x12 G12M-25 IR and can get everything using snapshots - Hendrixian clean, crunch, heavy rhythm, smooth lead, and doom metal sludge. I advise most folks really spend time dialing in the different amps to see what's possible!

    • @ADStudiosOfficial

      How would I switch seamlessly without lag between a high metal gain tone to a soft clean Eric Clapton tone for example? I find when switching between presets, there is a half a second delay between presets. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @jakestewartmusic
      @jakestewartmusic Год назад +1

      @@ADStudiosOfficial If you're switching presets, you will get a short dropout between. Helix Floor has Preset Spillover that remedies this, at the expense of some DSP - read the manual to configure that if you have a Floor or Rack or LT. Otherwise, if you need true spillover on a Stomp, you're best of trying to get both tones in one preset and using Snapshots. Snapshots have spillover (if you turn on Trails for wet effects) and no latency when switching between amp blocks or parameter changes. Highly recommend a thorough read of the manual if you're unsure of how to do this - knowing how to set this up will open up tons of possibilities so it's worth the time

    • @jakestewartmusic
      @jakestewartmusic Год назад +2

      @@ADStudiosOfficial Btw if you prefer Stomp mode, you can also just put your high gain amp model and clean amp model in a single preset chain together and use one of your footswitches as a Bypass controller for both, you can then use the FS to toggle them on/off opposite of eachother. Can even include all of the effects you use (boost for high gain, chorus/reverb/etc for clean) into this scheme, just be sure to turn on Trails if you want the tails of the effect to ring out after the change without a hard cutoff.

    • @GlennMarshallRocks

      Hacky, yeah, apparently... since this is a video specifically about the Helix, and not the Quad Cortex (QC), and I'm assuming it doesn't pertain to the Helix at all... so, not sure why it was mentioned here and not on a video where he was delving into the Quad Cortex, where someone might be able to use the info...

    Wondering what the advantage of having two paths is as opposed to just having one double length path with multiple amps and cabs that you turn off and on with snapshots? I would think that with two paths you have to duplicate effects which limits the ability to assign all of them to switches to use in stomp mode.

    • @GrahamSatterwhite
      @GrahamSatterwhite 4 месяца назад

      Did anyone get an answer to this? I’m curious as well

  • @wilssantos2
    @wilssantos2 8 дней назад

    Why did you separate your amps in two different signal paths? That forced you to use two instances of the same cab block. What I do is I put both amp blocks in a split path (100% split, either/or) on signal path 1, which also handles all pre-amp effects, which then feeds into signal path 2, handling the cab itself and all post-amp and post-cab effects. That allows me to, say, put a Tube Screamer in front of only the clean amp, while using the same cab for both and saving DSP (which has never been a bottleneck for my case, even with a pitch shifter at the start of the first signal path).

Wandering why I can’t achieve the same on the hx stomp 🤔 maybe the big helix does it better…

    If you're using a modeler and don't need additional pedals, I don't know why you'd use an HX Stomp, GT-1000 core, etc. instead of the full size modeler?
    I try to find sounds in my modelers so I don't need external effect pedals, so far so good.

    • @jnh73
      @jnh73 Год назад

      I would have to imagine because the full-size modeler might be overkill for some. I'm wary of even the Helix LT because it's a big-ass board. Plus, less $$$ for the more compact devices.
