Dave’s reverence and passion about this project is palpable. What a labor of love this amp is. The amp sounds fantastic and the notes have a certain clarity and weight that forces you to play better.
The Jose modified Marshall was James Hetfield’s favorite amp, when it got stolen he was so bummed he wrote Fade to Black

Yep, he even got a new Jose amp before recording the Black Album, but he thought it didn't sound as good as the old one and remained in storage until It was recently fixed by Dave Friedman and then used for the recording of 72 Seasons
Bob Rock had a Jose modified Marshall as well, it might have been used on the Black album in some capacity. Hetfield’s tone has largely been Boogies since Puppets, but glad Jose made it to the new album.
Friedman always outdoing himself, what a man! It's so honorable of Friedman having brought Arredondo's legacy and family into a tribute product. This is the real, true "modified" Marshall, not some tubescreamer front end tacked into a plexi 😂😂😂
What’s special about Dave Friedman seems to be how his personal vision is directly reflected in his products. There is no disconnect. He regularly interacts with the players, not just the signature model famous artists. He does not seem to have an us vs them attitude, despite being in a very competitive market. He regularly drops the names of his peers in a positive light. This latest tribute makes perfect sense, since Jose Arredondo’s name is regularly referenced, and credit is due, absolutely. This will not be for everyone, but for those who can afford to add this to their arsenal, these will be cherished possessions.
This is an insanely true sentiment, went by the booth on Friday - and he chatted it up with my cousin and I. Just a genuine dude who makes badass amps. The Jose sounded incredible in person
Dave is the best as I was trying to get a Red 4x12 cab for my orphan Friedman JEL 100 head. Within 8 minutes of me sending the email he responded and hooked me up. I’m just a semi Pro player these days, but it doesn’t matter because he cares about the player no matter what level. class act for sure! Congrats on the Jose! It’s stellar
I now record all my RUclips Shorts with a Runt 20w head and a Morgan 2x12 cab and a Little Sister 20w combo at the same time. Friedman amps are absolutely GLORRRIOUS to my ears! I live in a big house on 40 acres and can play as loud as I want and I love being able to hear my Friedmans as they are meant to be heard. Marshall should seriously take note!
I love the DSL line; it’s so simple to use. With just a few buttons, it sounds great wherever you plug it in, even with the original speaker. I find myself drawn to this type of amplifier because too many settings can be overwhelming. If I want more control, I’ll get a Quad Cortex not a Friedman etc
I’ve used one Marshall JCM900 combo (I own several Marshall’s) for 30+ years live, over a 1000 gigs, I’ve done all my own maintenance on it during that time frame, I’ve only recently moved on to Friedman amps and won’t be going back to Marshall. Friedman amps are infinitely easier to work on if needed. And each one just sounds better than my Marshall equivalent, I have Marshall amps for sale at this point.Cheap.
Agreed !! But the new jcm modded 800 sounds pretty decent . But it’s like , I’d your going to spend 3 plus grand for a modded amp , you might as well just get a Friedman or a bogner
@@geneparmesan8827 Exactly, and you'll get an fx loop. Why no one is mentioning that the new Marshalls don't have one is beyond me- that's really important, it means you can't use a reverb or delay with it in a traditional manner. You have to put them before the amp, which is really hard to make work right- works ok for shoegaze, but that's about it. I guess you could run it into something like the OX Box or use the reverb on your channel strip, if you're running into a PA- but a simple fx loop would've solved this problem. If they wanted to have the amp without the fx loop they could've always given you the option to bypass it. But most ppl would use it, I think.
Sounds killer, but keep in mind he's also got a PDU, amp switcher, ISP Decimator, Fryette Power Station, with an Eventide running delay/reverb so it's not JUST the amp....
Anyone who didn't realize how off the mark Marshall was with their own "modded" amps only need look at this to see how it should be done. *No offense to Marshall because their amps are the greatest in the world to mod.
I've heard them all and I don't get it. They all sound like Marshalls with varying degrees of gain lol. They all seem good, I don't really get the cork-sniffing going on
@@gdawgs101 Not about "cork sniffing" just about modding a Marshall the way the most well known and sought after modder of Marshalls did it, with an actual extra tube preamp gain stage, internally jumped inputs, pre and post master volumes, etc
Total nonsense! All you have to do to tweak an amp is buy a few pedals ! I’ve been playing for 40 years and have gone back to stock Marshall’s ! Boutique amps are for posers
@@paulparker8298the new Marshall is the same price as a Friedman. Also id rather pay the money for q Friedman where someone actually gave a shit about how to do it vs Marshall which seems like a cash grab with how little effort they put into it
Exactly!! Marshall should of released an updated version of those amps, like a 1959 Modern. The Modified thing is corny. Even putting that MV in the input jack, it doesn’t look good, people did it because it was a practical place to put it without damaging the amp.
@rogerdat7807 oh just any Marshall that's ever been made. Oranges. Blackstar. Suhr. Other Friedman's. Guitarists are just idiots and spend a ton of money on any new release because they think it'll add some new magic to their lives.
Always the same amp proposed , copied and copied n times... January 2025 and here we have a 40 yrs old amp with mods explained 100 times in all the geek fora (forums for the illiterates) .
@TheSammyreynolds hahahaha! I dont believe that ,you dont believe that ,Page doesnt believe that, clapton doesnt believe that, Beck didnt and so on! Hahaha
Staring to realise these days that boutique gear is cool but just an overpriced tweaked version of the original stuff for posers ! Just by a fkn Marshall
"The Jose" Hellofa Idea, This NAMM Marshall is finally doing what the people want, what Jose did Why let independent Amp builders/techs mod their Amps, just sell it that way with option switchs
Very cool of Dave to give a kick back to Jose’s estate instead of just releasing it under his own brand. Stand up guy.
I love the passion Dave still has for his amps! Keeping ths Jose legacy alive.
Dave’s reverence and passion about this project is palpable. What a labor of love this amp is. The amp sounds fantastic and the notes have a certain clarity and weight that forces you to play better.
Dave is a class act. Bravo!
Jose is definitely the Genesis of what we call "High gain amps".
Finally! My most anticipated video is here! Thanks guys! 🤘🎩

Just don't mention "digital" around him :D
I need this for some reason.

Good job Dave giving the whole rundown nonstop at the show. Great looking amp!
Great Vid! Dave us a legend for doing this with the families well wishes.
Can’t wait to see some proper play through videos of this beast 🤘🤘🤘
That's just awesome, well done!
I’m guessing that the contents of Dave’s glass are courtesy of another Jose. 😊
Brilliant!!!

I’ve never gotten to plug into a Friedman, but they sure sound good.
Beautiful amp.
Such a great tribute. I imagine that amp is going to fly off the shelves
Beautiful!
Such a cool tribute. The ultimate stratosphere amp from the source.

Agreed. The DSL line is great, either the original JCM 2000's or the modern variant. They just have the sound.
Junk
This years NAMM is all about modded Marshalls which is awesome. Wish I was there
I love that he put an effect loop on it. Any amp with a master volume should have an effect loop... defeatable though mind you.
This man modded amps for the late great John Sykes- That in itself is enough. #ripjohnsykes
finally the real marshall amp
I love Tony playing, but it would be nice to hear some nice full chords riffs... 😅
Sorry lol❤

Love my angry little Friedman Pink Taco . Hot Rod 80s Marshall FTW
Sick🔥🔥
What cab was the last part played on? It sounds amazing, and I’d be curious to know what speakers were used.
That's a really cool amp
Sounds so damn good! I wanna hear Mick Mars play through it!
Can't wait to see Michael Nielsen give this the treatment.
This is the "Modified" amp that Marshall should be making
Yes, one with a FX Loop!

They are

This has got to be a crazy amp
I read on a message board that Jose did amps for the Stones, anyone know if this true?
Did she just say 2:25 I met Eddie VH and he was a sweet guy and I am sure he still is?
She doesn't live in the rock n' roll world. She just isn't aware.
Or she's speaking in a spiritual sense.
Incredible amp
Grande Tony!
Brilliant :)
Sound like my Triamp. Basically a boosted Martshall with a great MV.
Mr Tony Waka himself! Check out the podcast "La República del tono", you gonna like it!
I don’t want another marshall reboot. What Friedman should I consider that is low wattage and goes from super clean to heavy?
Finally! The true "modded Marshall"
Don't spill that scotch 🍷
I thought there was supposed to be the px20 too
Tamnavulin?
I must have one.
PCB?
Daves the man.
The only number higher than that amp is Dave's blood sugar level. He will be missed.
Yeeepp
Is that a cup of apple juice?
Oz is working late.

Looks like a bigger more hairy version of David Gilmour.

so this guy copied marshall and getting credits for that???????????
he does it better than marshall.
@TheSammyreynolds hahahaha! I dont believe that ,you dont believe that ,Page doesnt believe that, clapton doesnt believe that, Beck didnt and so on! Hahaha
So tired of hearing about Ho-zay and seeing Dave's NAMM haircut
Morrrrreeeeee lipstick... weirdest industry ever.... nothing new.... stick to actual vintage ........
Thanks guys
These days word "tribute" means ripp off . . .
