  • For more than 6 months I have powered the cb radio from the 12v outlet. It was never meant to be permanent, I haven’t been sure if I would like having a large cb mounted on the side of the center console. I knew if I went with a smaller CB that I would likely mount it overhead. For this reason I wanted a temporary power source until I decided on a permanent location. After several months of using the bearcat 880 CB….there are no issues with clearance, I can easily read the display, my only complaint is that it’s hard to hear where it’s mounted. With all of this being considered, I’ve decided to stay with the bearcat 880 and leave it where it’s at, mounted on the passenger side of the center console using my centerak console side mounts.
Now it’s time to ditch the 12v outlet plug and hardwire it into the Jeep. I did like that the cb was on a switch 12v power source. My Jeep is not a daily driver, I am building it for the purpose of trail riding, exploring my state, and eventually traveling out west to explore as well. The CB being on a switched 12v power prevents me from accidentally leaving it on. Also I wanted the cb to come on automatically with the Jeep. For this reason I opted not to wire the cb into my auxbeam switch panel, where I would have to manually turn on the cb every time I started the Jeep up. Instead, I decided to hardwire it into the back of the 12v outlet, the same power source I have been using all along.
In this video, I have previously tapped into the 12v outlet and ran power and ground to the glove box. I will connect the CB to that power source and route the wires under the carpet. This way I will maintain all the functionality that I have enjoyed. Now I will also have a clean factory look instead of a bundle of red and black wires laying in my center console.
