Thank you for your review of this radio. It helped me out with everything that I needed in order to set up my new 880. I needed one for work and was also interested in getting something basic in order to start playing with this and getting to know the ins and outs of CB tech.

If I need to test a mic I just hop on one of the repeaters and ask for a radio check. It's interesting that talkback is found on many CB's but is pretty rare on amateur radios.

I'm not getting any traffic whatsoever here at the Rockwall TX Love's truck stop. Just got a whip antenna because the internal truck's antenna has no insulation on the whip or cable, yet nothing. On the S/RF I get 3 bars, & celebrated as your video said.

I just got mine today and the only thing I do not like is the mic that comes with it .it isn't that good and to upgrade the mic other then that it works well with the little will antenna

I didn't like the receive on the Uniden Bearcat 880 or 980SSB. They seemed a little low in sensitivity and highly prone to receiving bleed-over from nearby channels. I like the receive better on their PC787 and PC687. The PC687 meter is a lot easier to read than the PC787 though as the Signal Strength numbers are at the top like they should be on the PC687. The contrast backlit color of the yellow on the PC687 is also better.

got this last night did the conversion in 32 seconds put the cover back on then fired it up..
takes about 1 hour to get used to all the controls. and set things up.

@TheZeke1974 - wireless technology has improved significantly since the 80's though, so it may be a better option now.

I have one of these in my truck. Two issues, 1. the LEDdisplay is on brightest setting but still dim in day light which leads to next bugaboo. 2.it will change channels on its own switching from channel 19 to 18 sometimes. Haint figgered that out yet. otherwise works well.

Screen dims out fast. Can’t see it during a bright day.

@cbradiomagazine I think that it's not going to happen.There is a post on CB tricks,person said he contacted Uniden and was told by a spokesmen from Uniden that the SSB model was cancelled.But who knows for sure.You hear anything?

The problem with this radio is the Digital lights goes out and you can't read the numbers anymore. Sucks

I have this radio In my company dump truck and it reads 4.5 to 6 swr most times. Any idea what makes it that high? Tune the antenna a junk coax or bad ground?

We progressed to UHF 80 channels complete with repeaters as well as simplex.

Well the 980 is in stock a few places,I saw on your site you had a chance to look inside one.But the one thing I don't understand with your reviews is you don't fill us in on what PLL and finals they have.Can they be modified?? We crave info,if your really a CB guy you should know what we're looking for.Now my finger is just waiting to hit buy tell me what the story is!!!

they were handing out licenses back in the day.I think bearcat did well but could of thought of more usefull functions on this radio, the wx great talk back uh? roger beep instead! ya and maybe some better digital receive filters make it sound like a fm sounding system.

just got this radio and I am very new to this. my antenna diagnostic is failing but everything else is a pass I assume that hooked the antenna up correctly and mounted it on my mirror mount. what are some common mistakes that I probably made? My SWR is really high like 4
Tyler Hotsinpiller taking it to a CB shop for a peak and tune will help. Sometimes the antenna is not the problem but the cable. I was having a similar problem with it on my cascadia. Turn out the cable wasn’t long enough.

Yes, you are right and You’re not going to believe the performance. It’s loud and proud. I get 80+ watts from SR-955HPC I get a lot of compliments on my radio. They are top of the line as far as radios go. I’d rather get the stryker you can see here: (" strykerradios.com/store/10-meter-radio-955hpc/ ") and if you need more power add an amp. It’s kind of like comparing apple to windows. Other radios are great for "old school" type but the strykers have them beat as far as technology is concerned.

Has anyone had any issues with the display screen scratching or if something gets on it it etches or defaces the screen? A passenger in my truck was spraying bug spray on their legs and the overspray got on the display screen and now I have dots that have etched the screen (pitted). I have also noticed that if I wipe the screen because there is dust on it, it easily scratches. Overall my screen is so bad I have to replace it.
Does anyone know if the screen can be replace? It appears to just be plastic protecting the readout.
You should try a little bit of Meguiar's PlastX product.
Bug spray has a tendency to deface or eat away at plastic
+Chris King Yes, then found that there is a think hard to peel of layer of plastic over the screen. Peel it off.

I have a question for you. I am thinking about getting this radio and the wireless mic for it. But if I got both, I would not want the wire for the mic cradle on the front of the radio and mounted anywhere. I would like to run it from the rear of the unit and into my glove box. How hard would it be to move or add a plug for the mic to the rear of the unit?

Most likely some kind of firestic
deputy dumbass any antenna will work but not all antennas work well. The longer the better . 102” whip is the best you can get, anything else is a compromise. Wilson 1000 mag mount seems to be one of the best compromises.
Firestick 7feet. Works best.

No SSb.... **YAWN!** I think Uniden is working on a SSB rig but from what i have heard it doesnt have a clarifier, hmmmmm.

Jim Layey I wouldn’t worry about that. Your cb radio is safe to operate as is. Your on broad, up to 2.0 is acceptable any higher could damage your cb radio.

the new cb radio made today are junk not like the old days of the cobra 2000 gtl and the original corbra 148 gtl and the cobra 146 gtl thse was great cb radio out of the box with no amp for more more they would talk thru skip land no problem great modulation
