    I miss shooting my compound 100%. Ever since Mt military injuries started getting worse and the VA started trying to fix them. I had to stop and go to crossbow. I don't have an expensive crossbow, because you don't need one to make a kill shot, and keep it challenging. Great video fellas

    33.5" draw means life is expensive. Mathews bow because Bear doesn't make a bow for me. Easton axis 5mm because they're the only arrow longer than 32". 552 grains with 125 grain head and no extra insert because I already reached the weight I was wanting although it's only about 11% FOC.

    • @Bartimusblue27

      Black eagle arrows are 33" and advertise that the .001 straightness is consistent end2end on uncut shafts.
      You have the length to shoot efoc arrows at "high" velocity. My specs are: rx1-ultra 30.5"/83lb 755gr 27%foc, 200 spine x-impact shafts @260fps. You should realistically match (or beat) my speed at 70lbs, with your added draw length.
      552gr must be going like 300fps+ for you, because 615gr was going 285fps for me

  • @ericwiitala5407

    I can't wait!! I'm shooting a 300 spine, Easton Axis 5mm Match Grade w/ a 75 gr Easton insert, a 25 gr Iron Wills collar and 150 gr Iron Wills left single Bevel. 28.5" draw. Total weight is 610 gr. Bow is set at 63 lbs. The arrows are flying really straight (paper & knocked tuned )w/ my Broadheads. I didn'y have a grain # I was stuck on, it's just what they ended up being because they flew the best.

    My setup seems tame in comparison. Victory VAP Elite .166 with 95-grain steel outserts, weighing about 460 grains with a 100-grain broadhead. Just over 17% FOC and full penetration every time. My arrows are significantly heavier than my hunting partners, primarily due to the heavy insert. Good luck this fall.

    It’s interesting seeing these results as they are concepts that have been used with traditional bows for quite some time. The 600ish gr threshold high foc and heavy cut on contact broadheads are all things used to make slow bows more efficient and effective. Very cool watching the high speed vids ect! Keep up the good work!

    I've learned the most from RF. Heavier arrows do damage and puts game down quickly. Heavy fixed blade weight forward arrows are the way to go. Even at a 50lb draw pass throughs are guaranteed with heavier arrows. Mass puts them in the grass.

    I wish you guys would actually spend a day with someone who knows how to tune a bow and knows how to actually achieve perfect arrow flight from tuning not just throwing so much weight on the front of the arrow that it covers up. You wouldn’t have to shoot full length heaviest spines arrows possible to achieve those results

    Just got a new compound, gout victory rip tkos in 300sp, 75lb draw weight and 31” draw. I built my arrows at around 462gr. I have all 12 arrows within a .7gr range from high to low. I epoxied nails into the standard nocks to match the nocturnal nocks I’m using. I plan to shoot 100gr g5 montecs. I measured my FOC but can’t quite remember, I believe it’s 10-11%.
    1) what’s your recommended foc?
    2) how do I know where the switch point is in spine if based on arrow weight and foc? So if I want to get into the 550gr+ weight, at what point is my 300 spine too weak?
    3) I have sparked an interest in the single bevel heads. Watching the potato test, I believe ranch fairy used inserts with bearings. If I wanted to shoot single bevels, would I need inserts with bearings? My bow clocks counterclockwise so I fletched with a counterclockwise helical. so I’d have to loctite any tips/broadheads. Is that sufficient or do I need to get different inserts.
    4) I’ve never killed a deer in archery. Is a 462gr arrow with montecs a decent arrow? I just don’t want to wound/lose a deer because my arrow is too light

      I’ve killed deer with a Rip 300 steel inserts and 125 Montecs. Does awesome. Big holes. Goes through bone on deer. Tough broadhead, easy to sharpen on flat stone. Stiff Light arrows with steel on the front work awesome. Get there faster too. I’ve shot all angles and even right through shoulders. Arrow tracks straight and goes into the ground on the other side.

    • @2012lucasb
      @2012lucasb 2 месяца назад

      462 grains is a good setup but at 75 lbs at 31" there's no way your 300 spines are stiff enough. You have plenty of poundage and draw to go heavier. You will have a quieter bow and still have great speed with a 500-550 grain arrow. You need to have 250 spines and you'll need to cut that 250 down even further if you go to 550 grains. Remember you really can't be too stiff but can absolutely be too weak. Alway air on the stiffer side. Paper tune and bareshaft tune your arrows.

It's funny most of these guys are shooting around the same draw and bow specs but all of them shoot different arrow setups. Some of the older hunting shows felt like everyone shot the exact same bow, arrow, broadhead and everything. I like that these guys all use whatever works for them!

      Jist go with good middle of the road, good spine and straightness and tuned bow. You can still have good FOC without shooting a crazy heavy arrow thats not necessary, and you’ll have much flatter trajectory and better pin gapping and tape. Animals wont have nearly as much time to move, and if you get a range wrong or they take couple steps the arrow will be much more forgiving than this heavy Ranch Fairy BS. He admitted whole reason he did that was to make up for poorly tuned bows

    After your last video I already ordered some single bevels and went with a different arrow set up. Should be somewhere between 450 and 470 grains. I'm hesitant to go over 500, lot of open country and 50+ yard shots out here.

    • @twysted_catalyst9096
      @twysted_catalyst9096 3 месяца назад

      It's definitely doable above 500! I'm shooting ~525 grains and am able to shoot out to 80 yards with no problem with a 28 inch draw and 68 lbs draw weight. I wouldn't go above 575 tho if you want to have pins that go beyond 60 yards
