They were the pirates, free people of color, cajuns, slaves, and indigenous tribesmen that actually won the victory for the US that fateful day. The Battle of New Orleans was perhaps the greatest upset in military history. Jackson’s and Lafitte’s rag tag group defeating the mighty British .It would be like Southeastern University ( football ) playing the University of Georgia and winning 45-10.
