  • Many people have told the story of Andrew Jackson's victory in the Battle of New Orleans, but many do not tell the story of the true heroes. They were the pirates, free people of color, cajuns, slaves, and indigenous tribesmen that actually won the victory for the US that fateful day. Very proud that I am also descended from someone that fought in this war. One of my forefathers and two of his brothers. ❤❤

Yul Brynner made an impressive Jean Lafitte onscreen as was Charlton Heston's portrayal of Andy Jackson.
Governor Claiborne died of a liver ailment two years after the battle of New Orleans.

Jackson’s rag tag band defeating the mighty British was a “Rocky” moment in the history of warfare.

Great video! An often overlooked part of the campaign is the week long siege of Fort Saint Philips which took place after the main part of the battle at Chalmette

The Battle of New Orleans was perhaps the greatest upset in military history. Jackson’s and Lafitte’s rag tag group defeating the mighty British .It would be like Southeastern University ( football ) playing the University of Georgia and winning 45-10.

Great info and video, Kyle! Cool that you are kin to one of Jean Lafitte's right hand men! Louis Chicazola aka Nate Grupe?? Not sure of the spelling. I know you are proud of that! I too am kin to a couple of notable men to our country. Thank you for the great history lesson. I really love your channel. You should have more subs.
