Rushy was an unbelievable striker. Many people have forgotten how good he was. He scored so many goals and back in the day the defenders were allowed to literally kill a striker
Words cannot describe how incredible Ian Rush was as a player and what he brought to Liverpool. Legend doesn’t begin to describe it. Godlike status. For me he invented the modern pressing striker and was the trigger. Was the key to winning.

Hi great pod cast show you put on guys. Ian Rush what a legend of the club and 2nd best player of all time in Liverpool history I think. What a great fa cup winning Gole he scored thanks for all the great memories you gave us the Liverpool fans Ian.
Rushie spot on about Collymore. I was only a teenager when Stan signed but I thought exactly the same. Reminded me of the power and pace of Ronaldo at PSV, just running OVER people and scoring with ease. First season, especially The Newcastle game, it was true. Unfortunately he didn't have the same mental strength as Ronaldo.
His scoring record in the 1980s was incredible! The stat that if Rushie scored, Liverpool didn't lose, lasted 200 goals!! Thanks for all the cherished memories!
It was actually an extremely heated argument between Bob Paisley and Ian Rush that turned Rushie into a ruthless goal-machine. Bob being a wily old fox knew how to push players buttons but in order to get the best out of Rushie who was at the time a softly spoken kid, he had to make him angry. Bob told him, you're not selfish enough, I signed you to score goals and you're not doing it. Rushie slammed the office door and said I'll show you, you bastard, scored loads in the reserves, got in the first team and then tormented defenders. Getting furious with Bob Paisley who was a genius was the making of him.
spot on , he was a british record transfer fee at the time he went to juve aged 26 , im not sure if coutinho still is ,but that was 140m when he moved so i would suggest rush would easy command the same
Incredibly enjoyable podcast.... Rush and Fowler...quite a bromance! Rush one of the greats! Can't help thinking Barca would have suited his style more than Juve?
Rush was the perfect striker. Right foot, left foot, headers, quick, hungry, clinical. Robbie was much the same, except not quite as quick but more skilful and more likely to hit a 25 yarder. Imo.
Robbie was Rushes equal at finishing but far far behind at the press and tackling back. I believe his quote was ‘it wasn’t my job’ meaning he was basically half the player. Rush was first line of defense. Robbie more associated with the first line of something else 😹 Robbie wanted to be a drinking era footballer in an era where Ferguson made Man U give up the alcohol. Gary Neville admits LfC were probably a better side but because MuFC drank less they won more. Spice Boys should have followed Souness advice.
As a kid, I was always Ian Rush when we played football in the garages or on the skool playground. I think rushie is the reason ima Liverpool fan. Ynwa.
