It was the 80s that got me really into soul music - the likes of Luther Vandross and Alexander O’Neil. Memories of listening to the Mike Shaft show on local radio up here back in the day. Great tunes there Lawrence. Cheers 🙏
Cheers! 80s soul was seen as a bit passé when I was getting into music: all shoulder pads and jerry curls, but there's so much great stuff. It never ceases to turn up gems. All the best.
Arnie Love - nice tune! Krystol's After the Dance is another heavy dancer (not a slow jam though) - never heard Wizdom or Mella before - nice 2-Step vibes! great shares as ever Laurence - keep 'em coming
Peace Laurence...despite the flack that the decade gets, there was some fire r&b and soul out of the 80s... a lot of obscure artists and releases that never made the big time but were still great. I have "kill 'em all" in rotation as well. Stay solid.
There's so much great stuff out there, you're right. I'm always on the lookout for good music, and lately, the 80s seem to be delivering the goods constantly. I must admit I haven't had a session with Metallica for a while... Time to get it off the wall. Cheers!
not so much bump and grind, "slow jams" is what they're known as. Nice selections either way. These genre were on the radio in the NYC area late 70s early 80s before early rap music and disco took over the air. Great nostalgic vibes you have there. All 5 have the instruments and arrangements of songs that were extremely popular
NIce one Laurence!
Nice spins! Was just going through some Street Sounds compilations this weekend. So many classics from the 80’s.
It was a great decade of real technical changes in music. And streetsounds are a great way to get a taste. Cheers!
Hi Laurence. Love this! Not much 80’s Soul shown in the VC at all so this was a tonic. The Wizdom tune was the pick of the bunch 👍👍
I knew you'd understand! Wizdom is a cracker, serious grooving on that one. Cheers
I can highly recommend “Just A Touch” on Athens Of The North, a brilliant compilation of UK underground soul music
(cheaper than digging for the originals on there)
@spectrum_archives looks like an interesting one, and ATON have a trick of putting out records you're never going to find ever.

After the dance is a banger! Great stuff... no worries, I've got plenty to share... cheers!

Great, I do love a good slow jam, and a nice syth bass line. There's so much great stuff to discover. Cheers!
