Certain relationships can make life more challenging. Years ago, I decided to consider the pros and cons of any given relationship, allow myself time before making a decision one way or the other, then either committing to the relationship or letting it go. I have fewer people in my life now but most of those who remain are welcome and appreciated.
My BFF has dementia. We used to go to dinners, have fun, and dance, and I miss her. I'm an empty nester. Started to declutter my house and down size. It's overwhelming since we live here for 35 years and with 4 children. I was a global traveler and enjoyed all the different places I've gone to, but with these old bones it's getting more difficult. So many of my coworkers and relatives have passed. We are trying to simplify. It's not easy since we are in our 80's.
I have given up more than 10 things including my long love career for more than 20 years just to bringing myself back again and now I’m only focusing on my new hobby which is gardening and stress free and it’s feels so good and no regrets 🥰
It's good to be detached from material things, as this lady says. In addition, it is very important to consider having a more spiritual focus. As we ll know, every human being is, eventually, going to leave this world and enter the heavenly realm. This is nothing to be afraid of, but to look forward to. We prepare for this journey by thinking of others more and less about ourselves. Warmest blessings to all.
6:41 I finally admitted to myself that I am terrible at crocheting. I’ve made a few things but can never get to that next level. So I’m getting rid of all my yarns, needles, how to books and patterns and I’m ok with that. 😊
Wow! You hit all the spots I need to do. The part about saying no and pleassing others is so true . I love all that you said. I will continue to follow you. Thank you.
I ditched my one and only TV in December 2010 and I've never looked back. That time was replaced with reading from my library of books on a variety of topics; much better than reading from blue-lit monitors. I'm a senior myself and now realizing that as I spend more time in my home, environment is far more critical than when I was gone most of the time. That's where I'm at now, looking for ways to improve my environment especially post cancer. When we're older, we can't handle stress as when we were younger. A calming environment is critical for those now in their sunset years. Gardening is another therapeutic activity. As a newbie in that arena, I need to start with the container gardening to prove that I can do it. Hope so.🙏 Time will tell.
I ditched my TV more than 20 years ago.. there is such freedom not being glued to TV… I love 💕 reading, exercising, cleaning house, and just going for walks around the lake is so wonderful…
I'm so glad I found you! I just discovered you today. You have me hooked. I'm so glad you get right to the point and not waste a lot of time that I don't have. Can't wait till I see your next video. I sooooo needed this advice...
Hi, I just saw your video for the first time. I'm definitely a minimalist, but after some tears at it I'm still working on it. I'm almost fully decluttered now. The more stuff you have around, even if hidden, you know it's there. And so it eats up our attention. We only have so many "attention units" available and so we don't want them taken up by totally unneeded items ,of any kind. Same guess for activities, everything. Then as you say we can just focus on (and are able to give our full attention to) the things that matter to us. And there are things we cannot fully control, as with caretaking elderly parents, so the less unneeded things going on in our life the better, so we can handle these essential things or responsibilities. Living our own life is a lot easier like you said when we let go of the approval or keeping up with the Jone's. That's exhausting and really just lost and useless time we can't get back. The need to keep up with the latest news, especially around elections, is particularly harmful I think, and truly is just way too much information. We once did not have more than the encyclopedia and the library, dear how did we get through the day? The Internet is very helpful, but we can't let it run us. That's sad. I see people all the time driving and looking at their phones. It's astonishing peoples' "need' to stay on top of everything every minute of the day. That's really a sad life, I don't care if they are driving a 80k car doing it! I'm sure they think the "made it", so need to just keep it up. And materialism, don't get me started on the new Tesla trucks!
@@ericeichstaedt2357 Great points! So true that even if the items are hidden, they are still there. I need to work on some of my hidden areas. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for a very helpful video. The hobby I am calling quits to is cross-stitching. I started out strong, but then the kit just sat there in my closet, barely touched. I spent more time researching and buying kits then I did the actual hobby.
@@LittleRoseMouse I can completely relate. I had one cross stitch kit that took me a year to finish and it was supposed to be easy. I just learned that cross-stitching wasn’t for me. Thank you for sharing!
Yes I totally agree with you. In my younger years I wanted to climb the career ladder to be a leader so bad that I drove myself to hyperventilating and hypertension. After retiring for 13 years, I totally could care less about striving to be the best. In hindsight, I couldn’t believe Why I had such a big ambition in those days.
I put my life in reverse and got rid of a lot of stuff, activities, relationships, and anything that could lead to more things to do. I told myself that “Less is better” It’s working, I work on decluttering once a month, I’m happier.
@@yardboy3955 I completely agree with getting rid of anything that leads to more things to do, especially if it doesn’t better our lives. Thanks for sharing!
