Oh those beet stems are delish, you have to try them !
I love pickled beet steams.
The greens (leaves minus stem) are delicious steamed. Love them as much as I love roasted beets. Blessings!
I was just going to say that!
They look great but I'm a little surprised you didn't utilize the greens.
Since you don't have the rack for your new canner try this: Lay jar rings on the bottom in a single layer. It elevates the jars without affecting the space between them. I've done this and it works 😊
Great idea!!
Christie Hedges that's a GREAT idea!!
Yes I heard that too.
I've done that too. Worked out great
You can zip tie them to together to create a circle pattern.
Hi y’all
Bonus!!! 😊 you are so busy miss Tessie. Try to stay cool and hydrated in the heat💝💝💝
Hi 👋🏼 tami
Hi Tami
I love pickled beets ❤️❤️❤️
beet greens are tasty..I was shocked to see you not use them
Oh and they are really good for chickens
will be pickling beets soon here as well....but we also cook down the beet leaves and make beets greens and can as you would spinach or collard greens ♥️...my heart about broke when you left them out in the garden 😃.
I thought about feeding them to the chickens!
Don't you think they'd be tough, the beet greens? I do greens when I thin them out, they are very tender even with a tiny little beet on the end. Interested in your opinion 👌
We've never had any problems with toughness. We don't use the stems just the greens, the same as we do with collard, mustard, poke and spinach greens. Just wash boil and can. And I did look it up and yes they can be canned.
omgoodness Tessie I love pickled beets. I wish I could enjoy a jar of yours. lol tfs
Great idea washing them in the plastic crate!
Tessie- wouldn’t the chickens love some of those beet greens!!
Your beets look lovely. I used to do all that canning, but not any more. I just watch you.
I love beets and apparently they have many health benefits.❤️
❤️ I planted golden beets. I would like to can them the same way🏆
Hubby loves beets --me, not so much. Thanks for the video and sharing your knowledge. God bless, dearheart.
They look so good and perfect! I love beets! They're so good for you! I bet they taste amazing!
How fun and exciting. A mid-afternoon video. Going to make some iced coffee and enjoy the video. Absolutely love beats. They visually give you an uplifting of Serotonin by nature. Beautiful lovely beats. Yummy yum.
My mom used to can beets. She loved pickled beets. She is the reason why I like beets. I planted beets but they did not come up. God Bless!
And ALWAYS REMEMBER the next morning... You are not dying from intestinal hemorrhaging, you just ate beets the day before! 😆
(I always forget)
yes !!!!!!!!!!
My husband loves pickled beets💝
I worked at a steak house many years and made picked beets!💜💜💜💜
Whole lots of beets to can, and you did a great job canning them. Thank you for sharing Tessie.
Dear Tessie I just love you and your simple recipes!! You truly work so hard 🥵🥵🥵 everyday!!! Blessings to you and your beautiful family!! 🙌🏻🦋🙌🏻 You truly are an inspiration 😍🥰😘
I have always noticed when I work with beets, no matter how much I wash them, they smell like dirt when they are boiling. I generally only pickle mine.
My chickens love the beet greens. I just discovered Harvard beets and can't wait to make these.
Shabbat shalom brothers and sisters! 🤠💙🤗
Pickled beets are my all time most favorite preserved food! I could eat them every day.and make extra brine for pickled hard boiled eggs. They’re pretty and delicious too.
I've never eaten beets I know people grow sugar beets here for processing sugar
Thank you for explaining this with beets
🐯 My mom always planted alot of beets and canned them
She also pickled them. I loved them
It's not every day that we can watch a good instructional video and get an honest product review at the same time. Thanks so much, Tessie!
That’s a very nice canner! You will really get a lot of use from it. The beets were beautiful canned up!!
Love the beautiful intro at the beginning, great job and happy weekend to you Tessie😊
Lol my granddaughter and I open cans and chow down.
Oops looks like you forgot your gloves.
What a beautiful garden! hard work definitely pays off! 💪Thank you so much!🐇🍀🌻🌺♥sending lots of love and many blessings🥰xoxo
I canned beets this year too.I don’t care for them but my family does. Have a great evening everyone!
I could almost smell those beets cooking!!! 😀
Beet greens are better than spinach in my opinion. I freeze the greens and beets both.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️I love pickled beets ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ your jars look like jewels ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Lol ur hose sounded like a baby crying them it was a baby goat omg that was funny. Thk u Mrs T.
PS. I love beets.
I love pickled beets
Will you be sharing " How to prepare in the fall for your Spring Garden"? Maybe a series? Newbie to veggie gardening here! Just a thought! Thank you😊
Yes I will
@@HomesteadTessie 🤩
Tessie what a wonderful surprise to have a video from you on a Saturday morning. I love it!!! Is this going to be the new time for your videos??? I hope so.
No this is just an extra video there will be one again tonight I'm having so many videos and they're canning ones that it's gonna get pushed back too far so I'm just putting them out there won't be no more with two in a day I just had this one I really had to get out
I love fresh hot beets. My favorite part is squeezing the skins off, smother in butter yumi.
Enjoyed. The whole process was great to learn. I love pickled beets.
Thanks for sharing this recipe, Tessie. My mom used to make them. Yum.
I about died when you didn't save the bear greens and then saw you not even the save a tiny one with the greens. Then I thought ... those greens would probably be tough. When planting beets I don't care how many seeds go in a line and, as they come up, I thin them out and those I tke, even with tiny beets. Those are good beet greens and very tender 👌 Anyway, I'm impressed with your beet harvest! Great video as always. Blessings! 🥰
I love beets. Thank you!
Beets are my favorite especially canned ones 😍
Your beets look delicious! I make some similarly but I add sliced onions as well. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I'll have to try it.
Love beets especially pickled.
I have a jar of Harvard beets that is what i am having for lunch lol...thanks for the idea!
Great looking beets!
You can use the stem and blades , in green juice or in salt Witherspoon other blades and herkes. Is very helty. Fromme Norway
Beet greens are yummy! Cook them in a frying pan with onion and diced bacon.
Beat tops are great for chickens they love them to .
My mom never liked the work that goes into growing beets. She would buy cans of regular sliced beets. Then she pickled them. They tasted very good. I loved helping her. I do admire your hard work.
Wow I thought I was the only one who had done this. However this year someone gave me 4 huge beets and I made pickled beets. Only one huge jar and I keep them in the refrigerator.
Just found u great lessons wonderful usage of the food . Love the show
GODBLESS you sweetie n Chevy man n kiddos to
Beautiful beets! Beet greens are a favorite of ours. We steam them and they are rich in vitamin K, copper, manganese, iron and calcium. We also grow lots of zucchini for the blossoms, which we cook tempura style or stuff and steam. Use the skins with salt or vinegar to dye fabric.
Thanks, Tessie! ❤ Love to watch your canning videos! Those beets turned out beautiful. 🌱🥫🌱
Your jars of beets look so pretty. Pickled beets are delicious, but I can’t consume the sugar. You had another productive day adding to your pantry, I admire all you do!
Thank you! You too!
Ohhh cooked beet greens are so delicious! Hurts me to see them go to waste! Steamed greens tossed with angel hair pasta, garlic, grated asiago cheese (or parm cheese) add a ladle of the hot pasta water to toss and bring it all together. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cheap, simple dish.
I canned beets last week. I should have done them outside as well! I always do my corn and peaches outside and now I will be doing beets outside as well!
Thank you for this informative video. Our soil which we had to truck in is so clay like that we haven't tried growing beets. I love pickled beets and if we ever do grow or buy some to can this will be very useful.
Ours was the same. I kept adding brown leaves every winter. Now they have broken the soil up to where it is loamy and softer. Takes a couple seasons but we’ll worth it. Hope that helps yours as well. Good luck and happy gardening.👩🌾👍🥦🍅
I personally don't like beets, but I appreciate what you do
Watching you made me so hungry! I love pickled beets! They are so beautiful. Love how you just rolled those skins off! Going to see if I can get some at Farmers Market! Thank you for the great step by step video❤🤗❤🤗
Good evening Tessie
Found it!! I guess this is a good place to start to learn how to can! The water bath stuff… kinda scary but I’m following your lead Tessie🥰
Your beets are beautiful. Now if I can just get it to where I can get them to grow. Have a blessed day friend
My mom uses the water from the beets to make jelly.
I have to laugh I read your beginning too quickly and thought I read amish cleaning 101. Was not disappointed in your canning 101 by the way brought back memories of my mother canning beets. just had to share my odd reading adventure.
ooh myyy wooord !!!!!!!!! you got me thinking YES !! AMISH CLEANING 101 !!!! I am going to make a video on that !!! LOVE YOU !!!
@@HomesteadTessie I will not miss it!!! Glad I shared still laughing at myself.
♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for sharing the beats with us my recipe is similar but you also cook a cheesecloth bag with some pickling spice and a couple cinnamon sticks and a couple of cloves in it and not much seasoning but a little for about 5 minutes before you for the juice on it. Thank you for explaining about the river brethren Church I think that was more what my grandma and grandpa went to when I was little that they took me to it was actually right next door to and shared a cemetery with the Mennonite Church. I guess I see a split there at some time and place before I ever happened. I will have to check up on this River brethren a little more like always thanks for sharing tessie.
I love beets
I’ve tryed beets I don’t like them taste like dirt to me but my mama loved them
I love pickled beets! Did I miss the recipe? Thanks❤
I would love to learn from the amish on canning and preserving foods and I mean every thing from the fruits and vegetables to meat.
To making bread.
I have numerous playlists on all of those things in my Amish playlist
Thanks I need to eat beets I don't know how to fix them
How long do you boil yours to get the skin off? Thanks for Sharing and God Bless You!! Love pickled beets!!!!
It takes about an hour
From the National Center for Home Food Preservation: Depending on your elevation, you can between 35 and 45 minutes for both pints and quarts. I've had to go and adjust all of my old cookbooks to the new times and pressures. I had a bout of salmonella food poisoning and the after effects lasted over a year, I don't risk it.
The difference is these are pickled pickled is a different times than plain beets
I had salmonella also about two, years ago. They thought mine came from under cooked fish. I tried to figure if it came from using fish emulsion in my garden. Where did yours come from? We were never able to pinpoint exactly. What are you lingering side affects? I was in intensive care 5 days. It was horrible! Never want to go thru that again. So like you, I am extremely cautious and careful.
I’m trying to can🤣❤️
Tessie, how long did you boil the beets and does the color wash out with the boiling?
No you boil them for one hour do not prick them while you're boiling them in about an hour just slightly take a fork and see if they're soft
Yum 😋
Hi everyone 🙂
Nothing wrong with leaving the stems for compost!
What kind of canner is that Tessie? I tried to see what it says on the handle, but I can’t make it out.
ruclips.net/video/K8TuK-OZkVc/видео.html
Thank you!
I am a new follower, love your video, what brand is the canner info. Please?💕👩🏽🌾
I like beet juse and my husband eat the beets
I thought pickled items could be water bathed? That looks like a nice pressure canner.
Yes that is correct I shared in the video that you can use the pressure canner at 5 pounds pressure if you don't want to deal with all of the boiling water
@@HomesteadTessie Sorry. I missed that somehow. They looked good.
I would really love to find a way to get myself to like beets. I always get such a strong "earthy" flavor. Do you feel this canning recipe, or any additions to, could possibly get me past that so I can enjoy beets? If I can beets and I do not like them, my daughter does. It would not be wasteful so I am very eager to try suggestions. -- there is only one time I was able to eat beets from a salad made by a coworker. It had stored canned beets, vegall, ect and it mimicked the taste of a coleslaw to me. I did recently find her handwritten recipe. I think I only made it once myself and so long ago.
Wait a minute; how long did you boil the beets? Did you use a probe to check the biggest one and go by that, or ???
about 1 hour ,I pick to see if soft
@@HomesteadTessie 😘 thx!
Hello sweet friend….
The deer are terrible here and it doesn't help my neighbor feeds the deer. Deer are very smart creatures if they want my beans they will find a way. Love beets pickled and luckily my husband doesn't like them. Thank you for the video. God bless.
❤
I want to know how your hands were not dyed after peeling all those beets and then cutting and putting them in the jars? My poor mother’s hands would be dyed red when she handled beets.
These beets can be waterbathed?
YES THEY ARE PICKLED
What size is your pressure pan and where can I get one please
Don't waste your beet stems! The leaves can be cooked like spinach, and tastes just like spinach
