Thanks for this video. You explained it so well. I believe there are many more people who need to see this. I always go by the USDA guidelines. When I started canning again after many years, my husband was a bit hesitant about eating home canned food. I assured him it was perfectly safe and explained to him about the guidelines I followed. I explained to him that even though I followed the safe canning guidelines, not every canner does. And it's a good idea to be cautious when it comes to home canned foods. I even got him involved once on a tomato canning season. I explained as we went along , " Why I do things a certain way." From sterilizing jars, adding citric acid and processing. He's a believer now and loves my home canning. I think he rather enjoyed getting involved in the canning process. He even commented that it was a satisfying experience. Anyway didn’t mean to ramble on. Keep up the good work. That is a lot of great information you have there. Explained so well.
I would like to thank you for making this video it is so excellent you gave so much information that I’ve never even heard of I know so little about Canning or it’s history but I do see all the controversy on RUclips over the Amish and the USDA guidelines.
While I do find this informative, I do know that there is Amish communities that do indeed water bath meat. Now I’m not not advising anyone to do this, I’m just simply stating that there are Amish communities that do water bath meats and many vegetables so to say that they don’t is a miss representation, there are many different Amish communities that have different practices so to take the story of one family and say that’s how all do it is not correct.

I'm glad ypu enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching!
It all makes sense now with that little extra insight on how the Amish store and cycle their food. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Great video. It was good to see Amish canning practices in context.
Thank you for your videos. They are very informative and you are a wonderful teacher.
I'm so glad you've enjoyed them!
When you have to Watergate everything like the Amish, it takes 3 hours for many items. Why waste that much energy?

Actually, I explain in the video that some "plain people" do this...and why it is still an issue.
Not sure I believe you. My opinion is water canning meat is a way of life but may only have a year, shelf life. Pressure cooked, many.
That is because dead people can't talk 😢 thanks for the information
Thanks for watching!
