Thank you so greatly for this video! I couldn’t figure out why I kept having failed seals on my gaskets. I discovered yesterday that I was sent the one time use gaskets in 2022 when I originally ordered. It was as simple as an email with a screen shot of my original Order and a pic of some of my gaskets showing their color. Harvest Guard responded the same day and a replacement order was processed today!! I never would have known and would have struggled forever till I gave up. I appreciate you!!
Thank you for this video Christina! I did get those onetime use gaskets. Once I saw videos made on this issue from you and others on YT. I contacted Harvest Guard through my E receipt. I posted a picture of what I got. They replied back and agreed that they were onetime use gaskets and immediately sent me the reusable gaskets. I didn't have to send back the onetime use gaskets back.
Thank you! This explains why I’ve had such a hard time with the red gaskets. I had the orange ones before and they worked great, but the red ones have had a lot of seal failures,
This was really interesting! I hadn't bought any, but its good to know because a lot of what I'm growing this year will get canned, like beets, pickles, and blackberries. Glad to hear the company is taking a responsible approach, and making things right with the customer.
well damn, Thank you putting this out there I have not heard anything until now. I did buy over 1500 lids a couple of years ago. All the regular mouth ones are the bright red all the wide mouth ones are the maroon color. So I actually have about 750 lids to send back. Its rare that a company is honest. From what I did use I do love their product.
Thank you for this video, I bought mine in 2021 - had not opened the box yet still using up my regular canning lids. Mine are the dark red!! I bought 200 of each of the wide mouth and 200 of the regular mouth. I just emailed them with all of my receipt information. I hope they make it right. Again, thank you for the heads up.
The company responded to me the next day. I sent them photos of the gaskets they sent and they said I have the reusable ones. I will try using them this weekend to see how they work. Their customer service is outstanding!@@Proverbs31Homestead
I bought all mine in 2020 mine are the good ones!! At least the were honest!! They can look up the invoice by name and address so don’t be jerks and try to get something for nothing. God doest like ugly!! I got injured and haven’t canned since 2021 Jan. Hope to soon get back to canning!!
Good info. I didn't know. Now I gotta dig out my stash to check em. By the way, Its 2 companies but 1 family. (Grandson started Harvest Guard using Grandpas ideas)
Thank you for posting this! I wonder why I didn't hear from the company via email? You say they did the right thing but they sent my order info to my email and I did not receive any notification from them. So are they REALLY doing the right thing?
Be sure you're carefully following the directions; reusable lids are different than the one time use lids. I have a video how-to here: ruclips.net/video/6PKh4BrCCdA/видео.htmlsi=zinFRVdVLYtfEOWx But be sure to contact Harvest Guard about your rubber gaskets, too. They will make it right.
@Proverbs31Homestead I reprocessed this morning in a pressure canner. So far, so good. I'm determined to use them for tomato products. No more bad metal lids on tomatoes. I have several hundred so I'm going to use them. I still have 10 quarts of stew I canned with Harvest Guard lids 2-3 years ago that are fine. Occasionally, I found 1 bad, then the just quit failing. I guess they're just not as reliable.
I am heartened by your honesty. I had to get some cheaper knock off lids during shortage and they didn't give good results. I'll not do that again. If I bought Harvest guard lids now (2023 season) do you think they come with the reusable gaskets? Is there any trick to using these over the Ball or Kerr kind? I just found your channel today while I was looking for cut worm guards for cabbage. After 40 + years of gardening last year was the first year I ever had the little buggers. I grow about a 1/4 acre of kraut cabbage (Megaton 90 days) and they destroyed 60%. Thanks for all your useful info. God Bless.
The Harvest Guard gaskets are now clearly marked on their website as one-time use and reusable, so you needn't worry. And yes, they ARE different to use from the standard Ball/Kerr/Bernardin lids. Just follow the directions that come with them, or check out my video on using Harvest Guard lids.
Thank you for the info, i was actually looking for other info on these lids ( like i was wondering if you can use them in a digital pressure canner - but now i am afraid to try as i have the bright red ones)
Electric pressure canners have not been tested safe. In fact, in many cases, they've failed tests by not reaching adequate pressure. But yes, you can use Harvest Guard lids, including the one time use gaskets, in a pressure canner.
@@Proverbs31Homestead Thank you- i will use just in regular canning. I feel i owe you, as without this video i would not have known mine were the wrong ones. Harvest sent me new ones- can't wait to use them.
Are the bright red ones really only one time use? I bet they will work at least few times... I purchased 100 of the "single use" replacement gaskets with my first order, just to test them out! They were cheap and I am a gambling man :)
I received the bright red ones last year or so. I emailed them 1 week ago showing my receipt and asked for a replacement wIth the reusable ones. I have heard nothing from them yet. Should I wait longer?
Personally, I'd give them another week. If you haven't heard from then by then, I'd call. On a positive note, I received my replacements pretty quickly.
They do work differently than one time use metal lids. I have a separate video showing how tp use them. I have yet to have a seal fail using Harvest Guards.

Just so you know, they aren't even asking that you send the incorrect ones back. You get to keep them for one-time use.

Have a sample pack coming any day so we shall see!
Thank you. Good PA.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Kneady Homesteader showed that Harvest Guard is up for sale.
I have no facts regarding that. The midsts of this error seems like a very bad time to put a business up for sale, however.
Kneady Homesteader has a lengthy interaction with the owner. @@Proverbs31Homestead
Soo glad I saw this. I will contact them!

I have bags of maroon colored rings.
Last night I canned 21 qts. That are not sealing.

Mine are all bright red! Maybe that’s my problem! 😔 😢 😞
It is not on their website and I did not get an email from them. I did just buy 100 more and the gaskets appear to be the correct one.
That's good! Not every customer was affected.

So if we bought it prior to last year are they ok
If you bought them prior to the shutdowns in 2020, they are fine.

I have heard from folks who've tried to use them more than once and ended up with a high failure rate.

Tattler.
