    My sweet father passed away today. He was 96 years old. Once I return from the funeral, I will get with the program. (In the midst of it all, I had my gallbladder out August 1st...so this summer has been rough all the way around. The rough part is over.)

      Any little bit you can do adds up. I am definitely not preserving every single day right now but I am still doing what I can 3-4 days a week. I’m hoping that if I make it more part of my routines throughout the year then it will become easier to stay the course and be more consistent with putting things away. Those chili beans sound amazing. I have never done those before. Maybe on the agenda for this winter when I have a bit more time. ❤️

    Hi!
    When you put fruits and green onions in the freeze dryer at the same time, can´t the fruit catch a little bit of smell/taste from the onions?

    • @RowCoFarms
      @RowCoFarms  2 года назад +1

      I guess it probably could but I haven’t really noticed it with the green onions. I do have to wipe the machine out regularly to eliminate odors from the foods so it stands to reason that the onions or garlic or other foods could do that if they are really strong in flavor. I will have to watch out for this. Thanks for being here!

    Nice job! SO you don't have to halve or crush the whole strawberries for the FD? 🤦🏽‍♀️ I was told by someone that I couldn't do whole berries....I was left with 10lb of expensive organic berries that I ended up blending into a slurry. Sheesh...nice to know I don't have to do that extra work.

    • @RowCoFarms
      @RowCoFarms  2 года назад +2

      Hi! So I will be honest some of the bigger whole strawberries didn’t do as well as the smaller ones. I would probably halve them at least in the future to make the dry more even and a little faster. I’m still learning a lot about the freeze dryer and what it’s capable of doing. I would love to know what all you have done in yours! I haven’t been too adventurous so far. Mainly just fruits and veggies from the garden. But I know there are so many possibilities.

    • @RowCoFarms
      @RowCoFarms  Год назад +1

      Hi! The cowboy candy marinade is the juice and liquid that I have leftover from making my cowboy candy. The recipe for the cowboy candy is from:
      Ann Acetta Scott "A Farm Girls Guide to Preserving the Harvest" book.
      Its just a byproduct of making the candied jalepenos and I like to can it up to use as a marinade or add to a cocktail when yo need a spicy but sweet element.

    I don't understand why you blend everything are you making baby food

    • @RowCoFarms
      @RowCoFarms  2 года назад +1

      2 reasons. 1.) I don’t like to peel peach or tomato skins before canning. To prevent weird skin pieces in the canned jars I blend everything together. 2.) Because that’s how we like our salsa, peach butter, and bbq sauce. I don’t like those things chunky but very smooth.

    I've had fun watching you this month. My garden is just now starting to come in here in the Idaho mountains. Today I'm making cowboy candy and dehydrating the rest of my jalapenos. Plus cutting and canning chicken. I love listening to canners while I work.

    What do you do with the lids after you open an item? I know you aren't supposed to can with it again...but it also seems a bit like a waste, so I was looking for some ideas. Thanks! You have done an incredible job and have produced so many wonderful things that it is really just an awesome inspiration :)

    your brown pop top bottles... are they really difficult to open? My sister ordered some from Amazon and they are really hard for her to open. I will be able to use them, but she has arthritis that isn't super bad... but bad enough she can't open them. so we are looking for ones that aren't quite as difficult, but still provide a seal. Anyone have any recommendations?

    Hi Julie! Congratulations on all your accomplishments during the month of August! This is inspirational.
    I’m curious about your settings on the freeze dryer. I also have a large harvest right but it takes so long to dry strawberries and pineapple. I just did a batch this week and cut the strawberries into 4ths and made my pineapple thin (all pre frozen) and it still took 40+ hours. What’s your secret to get it to dry within 24 hours?

      I have no idea. I am just learning this freeze dryer. I haven’t changed any settings that I’m aware of. I actually should be cutting up some of my fruits into smaller pieces. But as far as the timing goes I have no idea. The machine doesn’t what it doesn’t and I just wait. Sorry that I wasn’t more help!

    Would it be ok to freeze dry the pepper pulp and mix in the juice for thicker sauce?

    • @lesliearcher8464
      @lesliearcher8464 2 года назад +1

      Powder it and mix it? I don't know much about fermenting

    • @RowCoFarms
      @RowCoFarms  2 года назад

      I would just leave the sauce with the pulp if that’s how you like it. No need to freeze dry and then add back in. ❤️
