Chicken Scratch Apologetics. Jehovah's Witnesses say the name of God is Jehovah? Is that true? Can we just use Yahweh? Do I need Jehovah to be saved?
I really wish i could get my dad to leave the organization, however once JW's have their claws in you, they use every sort of tactic to keep you in their grip. The more popular use is guilt tripping and excommunication. It's sad. I've seen it tear families apart, including my own. I wish to one day have a conversation with my dad where he feels like he doesnt have to be constrained.

My mom has been with the JW Org for many decades. Praying for deliverance.
God "chose" both my brother and i ... we serve the KING, Christ Jesus! our dad is a JW who was previously ex-communicated and after 2 decades of seeking the things "of this world" he has found his way back to kingdom hall and now he just seeks the things "of this world" under the guise of "jw".
i dont like to ay that but its the truth! he lives in the Philippines with a girl thats less than half his age and hes 65 i believe. he wont talk to me or my brother because we told him that jw is a cult!
told him that noone is saved by any religion whatsoever(because its true) and told him that "religion" is the "works" of and "go to" of the devil..because it is.
i told him that he is a polytheist because jws believe that Jesus is "another, lesser god" which is absolute blasphemy.. and they believe that Jesus "became: the arch angel " Michael" when HE was crucified! can you believe that? they believe that Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Alpha & Omega" the RISEN CHRIST, the redeemer, the SAVIOR OF THE WORLD....is Michael!!!
im baffled at their beliefs... i did my due diligence. i studied their "religion" as honoring my dad like the bible says and yet, he hasnt honored his own son like the bible says to.
he outright rejects the diety of Christ...jw is complerely a "works" based religion... they hardly use the bible ...they "study" the " watch tower" magazine . theres just so much i can say about that " CULT" and how its all wrong however the "governing body" trains...more like indoctrinates them not to talk to people outside of their religious cult when not doing " field service"...
im sorry that youre dealing with all that my friend, i understand your frustration and pain and im sure that er have more in common than that.

There seems to be some major misconceptions about the name "Jehovah."
1. Can YHWH be transliterated as Jehovah? Sure.
2. Are JW's the only group who use the name "Jehovah"? No, as DH pointed out, many Christians use the name Jehovah in worship. "Yahweh" is often used over "Jehovah" when teaching but "Jehovah" is still used. So JW's are wrong if they think they are the only group that uses the divine name.
3. Christians do not have a problem with the tetragrammaton being transliterated in the Bible as "Jehovah" rather than using the circumlocution "LORD." So why do most (not all) English translations use "LORD"? People may not agree with it, but they should at least understand why translations made that decision.
4. The controversy always centers on the NWT's insertion of "Jehovah" into the NT. The Greek NT that we have (JW's included) does not contain the tetragrammaton.
Therefore, Christians content that it is illegitimate to insert the divine name into the NT since the tetragrammatonis not found in the NT.
JW's contend that the original manuscripts contained the tetragrammaton and that between the time John finished writing (c.95) and the extant manuscripts (c.200) that a mystery group replaced the tetragrammaton with Kurios. So they have "restored" it.
This would be admirable if it was true but there is no evidence for their claim. The NWT provide pages and pages of arguments that can seem impressive to the untrained but the trained examiner sifts the arguments and finds them devoid of evidence.
JW's want to claim people can trust the NT based on the numerous manuscripts and textual criticism while at the same time denying textual criticism and claiming that all of the manuscripts have been deliberately corrupted my some mystery group. They can't have it both ways.
If a mystery group was able to track down every NT manuscript throughout the Roman empire and the tetragrammaton without leaving a trace and without anyone taking notice (which is beyond reason) then there is no way to know if they changed or added other things. Maybe this mystery group added the virgin birth story.
Bottom line is that the manuscript evidence is unanimous so to claim the tetragrammaton was originally in the NT is to claim the NT cannot be trusted.
This is what the dispute over JW's use of Jehovah really boils down to... and the fact that they inconsistency (even according to their own standards) "restore" the name.
JW's should take this seriously.
In what we call, 'The Lords Prayer,' Jesus told the disciples and all believers right in those very first words to refer to God as 'Our Father,' then 'who art in heaven,' followed by 'hallowed, (holy) be thy name.' We are not told to invent or guess at a name, but rather, Jesus tells us that God's name is holy and, very distinctly, gives us no name to use other than 'Father.' Our relationship with Almighty God is a father/child relationship. What a wonderful fact that is, that God loves us and accepts us as His children, wants us to share a two-way, intimate, loving, father/child relationship with him. Matthew 6 9-13. 2 Corinthians 6 18. A relationship made possible by Jesus Christ Himself.
Another nicely put together video. I have cousins who are JWs and the use of the sacred name is important to them. But what they don’t understand is that Jesus said to call God, “Our Father” no need to use the formal name. Besides, Jesus implies that to refer to God as “Our Father” is to establish an intimacy. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but JW founder Charles Taze Russell was drawn to the occult and it’s possible he thought that if he used the name of God it would some how be like “magic.” The Kabalah Jewish mysticism seems to imply that if one uses a particular sequence of words in Hebrew God’s power is unleashed/manifested. To be fair, the word "Jehovah" isn't a JW invention. It predates them by several centuries. What IS their invention is the concept that it has to be God's true personal name and that its use is required.

All of those OT scriptures are applied to JESUS in the NT, yet you refuse to come to HIM, you refuse to call on HIS name, and you cling to an angel made up by the WT.
Verse 38 culminates the entire passage. Be baptized in the NAME of Jesus Christ, not Jehovah. Phil 2:9-11. What NAME is being proclaimed? What name will EVERY KNEE BOW TO?

From my studies his name will be revealed at the last day, the bible the source of knowledge and in the prayer Jesus said pray to the father, and the prayer to him is, but nowhere in the prayer is a name, no name!! Their bible is also the worst and they have altered it to suit their doctrines 😮

I just had to talk with several Jehovah’s Witnesses is the other day, what’s even funnier is that they say oh yeah Jehovah he is called the first and the last yeah. I asked them according to the New World translation, I said you told me that Jehovah God is called the first and the last right they said yeah I said OK, I said according to your New World translation Jehovah God died they said no that’s not true you need to word it properly. I said I did you said that Jehovah God is 1st and last right? They said correct, and I said OK so right there in the New World translation you just told me that Jehovah God died. My question is this Why do they contradict themselves?
If you want to show a JW something get the Emphatic Diaglott its a JW pub with at least 2 versions I know of get what exjws call the purple people eater its the 1968? version and still has jesus being worshipped from the Westcott and hort which is what the NWT is based on. But your not gonna convict a JW of what you say or what they see you need to find the issue that troubles them about the WT once you shake that foundation things start to fall. And dont come at them like gang busters let them read from their publications that your showing them they wont see it right away but you "plant a seed" if they are in defense mode your talking to a wall at that point.Sad to say if you act ignorant of the bible yu can ask other questions and they try to explain your question away they start t think.But most life long jws will tow the party line regardless of what they believe so they dont get shunned and lose all their friends and family.And they are taught to fear the world and not to be part of it.

From Hebrew to Latin to German to English. There is no “J” letter or sound in Hebrew. You want to use Jehovah to call on God, fine. Is there a sin in calling God Yahweh or Yahowah?

Until I came to Christ did I feel the meaning in “the word became flesh and dwelt among us”. It felt so personal. God loved us he came to live among us and to die for our sins so we could have access to him in heaven and be saved.

Never been baptized but grew up in the organization.
I am 1 of 7 siblings my mom and 18 month younger brother are both baptized witnesses. My brother has 3 children 2 girls and a boy.
Both girls are baptized 1 recently baptized roughly 2 months ago.
I have done extensive amount of JW studies during my "vacation" in prison. My question is there are scriptures in the old testament stating our Heavenly Father did all these horrific acts that go directly against his nature. Jesus never told us to pray to Jehovah or Yahweh he always referred to the most high as father.
Big question. I will do a video on this eventually, but in the mean time, there’s a book called “Is God a Moral Monster” and the author goes into great detail about all the Old Testament laws and God’s acts as well.
The King James Bible,(yr1611) has the name Jehovah in it several times! The Hebrew name for God appears in the Bible about 7,000 times, yet churches don't mention that? the word trinity NEVER appears in the Bible, but churches teach as if it does
I'm not crazy about where the name Jehovah came from. But if people want to respectfully use it, fine. That doesn't make it God's divine name or mean that I am in some way wrong for not using it. Given the origin of the word, to say otherwise seems rather difficult to defend.

As a young Christian I feel really bad for these people, cause I do have some relatives who are BRAINWASHED WITH THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, and no how much I preach to them and share the gospel with them they will not come away from their BOOK. I CANNOT SAVE THEM, just we should all continue to PRAY FOR THEM, the only time my relatives will listen is when I have to let them know that where I am going after I leave this earth will not be the same place that they will spend eternity, and it SADDENS me. Moses asked for God's name, and He said, "HaYAH Ashar HaYAH," NOT Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh. HaYAH means "the I AM," and so He said, "The I AM Who the I AM." Ehyeh is not YAH, as in Halleluyah, which means "Praise YAH." Jehovah is NOT God's revealed name. The apostles never knew the name of Jesus. The disciples knew Christ as YAHSHUA, but on the streets of Jerusalem, they heard the common Aramaic name Yeshua. The name Jesus has only existed since the 17th century. God revealed the name of salvation, and to reject this one revealed name, YAHSHUA, is to stand condemned (John 3:18).
The WT’s NWT has once again add the word “other” to change the meaning of a scripture. By doing this they are telling JW’s that Jesus’ name is not above Jehovah’s.

Jesus did not create himself, but he created all other things
If Philippians 2:9 states the God promoted Jesus and GAVE HIM A NAME above all names, it logically means that it excludes God, the promoter. who is Almighty.
1 Corinthians 15:27 makes this clear.
Since God is fulfilling Micah 4:1-5 and the only group which fits all the signatures of this last days prophecy are Jehovah's Witnesses, it is obvious that God has no problem with his name. If he had, he would have got it changed.
Interestingly according to the Septuagint at Leviticus 24:16 it says “ let him who pronounces the Lord’s name be put to death - let him die when he pronounces the Lord’s name”. As former witnesses my wife and I has stopped using the unpronounceable name of the almighty “I am” and now refer to God as Father which is what adopted sons should do. We now have a personal relationship with the Father through Christ Jesus.

MR D C1 is a troll, so don't pay any attention to him. He doesn't watch the videos he comments on, doesn't answer people's questions, obviously doesn't read what people write, etc.. Bottom line he's not honest.
As far as Lev 24:16, that's really interesting-I've never seen that before. I think the translation reflects the translators view at the time (c. 250 BC) that to speak the divine name of God could be considered blasphemy.
We see Jesus being sensitive to his contemporaries view on this matter by using circumlocution instead of the divine name (eg. Mar 14:62).
There is nothing wrong with saying the name of God ("Yahweh" or "Jehovah"-however you want to say it), nor is there anything wrong with just using the title "Father" as Jesus taught. The only times it would be wrong to use the name of God is when it is being used irrelevantly or flippantly and in situations where it might offend others (like Jews today who think it's wrong to utter the divine name).

So if just saying the name of GOD is wrong, then you are saying that GOD's followers shd have been put to death. and also the septuagint bible translates it as "And he that names the name of the Lord, let him die the death:" and NAMEs there means " a descriptive often disparaging epithet" so it is curse or blaspheme

This is completely off topic, but could you do a video breakdown of Matthew 24. It’s one of the most complicated chapters in the Bible in my opinion, and there are many different opinions on it, and what applies to the talk of the destruction of Jerusalem, and what applies to Jesus’ literal coming. As much as I disagree with the preterist interpretation of scripture, it does sound like a large portion of it had a first century application. Thanks so much

Thanks a lot! Yes the witnesses favourite chapter, but they only focus on like 4 isolated verses in it. It’s coincidentally also the chapter which destroys their foundational teachings. They rarely use the parallel accounts on Mark and Luke. I wonder why 😁😉
I would also add that it’s their understanding of the Greek word, ‘paraousia’ which gives them the excuse to push their teaching. If they understood that word means the return of a conquering king, they would understand why ‘coming’ is found in every other Bible.

If it is so un-important to use Gods proper name, why are there scriptures such as Exodus 9v16, whereby he tells Pharoe that he has let him live, to show him his power, and "In order to have MY NAME declared in all the Earth".?
Then, in John 12v28. Jesus said. "Father, glorify your name". Therefore a voice came out of Heaven. "I both glorified (It) and will glorify (It) again"! Then, in Acts 15v14-17, he actually points out, using The Apostle Peter, (Cephas), as to the name that the people he choose will be called by. ! Backed up by Psalm 18v43.!
None other than Jehovah's Witnesses. Regardless of the alleged wrongdoings they are accused of, they are still his people. The Creator must have known all would not be well towards the end. Christians, those with some knowledge, don't mind "Jehovah." The problem that Christians have is with JW'S inserting "Jehovah" into the NT because the tetragrammaton isn't found in the Greek NT.

There isn't a single Greek NT manuscript that contains the tetragrammaton, yet JW's claim-without any evidence-that the NT originally contained the tetragrammaton and they are simply "restoring" it.
1 - There is no evidence the tetragrammaton was in the NT. All Greek NT manuscripts contain Kurios.
2 - such a claim by JW's is to claim that the NT is unreliable.
3 - in JW's quest to "restore" the divine name, they pick and chose where they want to "restore" it in the NT and are not consistent with any standard. The only rule that they seem to abide by is that the referent cannot be Jesus, even if the context demands it.

I was shopping to get a sd card for my phone one night. I went to Walmart and looked around at the camping section at pelet guns. I never bought the Power line mo_ el, kinda like the kid from that movie Christmas Story being the gun I wanted. So I made my way to electronics and found some where it intersected with the jewelry cases full of watches. After looking at brands I still didn't get it. Most likely I left and bought beer instead. Since then I been on a Fear&Loathing adventure tryin to get off that carousel. I sobered up since then and realized I'm not looking for a name, a higher power is trying to lead me back!

Rom 10:9-13 is one that I often throw at a JW. They often cite the passage and ONLY in the JW bible (NWT) do the cite the name Jehovah when the whole context is about Jesus. You should see the shock look on their face when ask them to read the full context. Then I add "proof that you when you use technology to do a search and replace to add your trademark god name to the bible, you come up with human errors or just blasphemy. " Or was it intentional to add the company brand name Jehovah to that text? Just goes to show that the true God is not going to allow the son, Christ Jesus to be replaced since he will always exist in full context.
BTW, great video on the "truth" of how use their god's name. But I will always have to disagree with God and Christ being the same and coming to earth in the flesh. That's another video of course. Still Christ is salvation, and we say all prayers in the name of Jesus.

How was this euphonious name, Jehovah, propagated?
Later in Medieval times, the Roman Catholic Church was known to raid Jewish synagogues, take their gold, and the Hebrew Scriptures [the Old Testament], and persecute Jews. Raymondus Martini was a 13th century Dominican friar and theologian. He is remembered for his book called “Pugio Fidei” (in the year 1270 CE). Finding the absconded Hebrew Scriptures in the Dominican Library, and believing he had discovered the name of God, he used the name Iehovah (or Iehova) in his book not understanding that these vowels were not original to the LORD’s actual name. The name and pronunciation of “Jehovah,” (and also the name Jesus unknown until the 17th century) were essentially unknown in the years before 1520 CE, when introduced and propagated by Peter, Galatinus (1450-1540), he held the office of penitentiary under pope Leo X. His chief work De Arcanis Catholicae Veritatis, a book, written at the request of the pope, the emperor, and other dignitaries, in the year 1516 CE, as he also used the name Iehovah in his book. The name Iehovah was altered with the addition of the letter J, which was a recent addition to the English alphabet in the 17th century. What does the name Jehovah mean in Hebrew?
Je-hovah, “hovah” in Hebrew means, “Ruin, Mischief, and Calamity” (see Strong’s #1942, #1943). The Jewish Encyclopedia, states, under the name “Jehovah,” “This name is commonly represented in modern translations by the form Jehovah, which, however, is a philological impossibility” (p. 160). The Jehovah’s Witnesses admittedly make a similar reference that the name Jehovah is inferior, in their book: Let Your Name Be Sanctified (p. 16). Despite being told the truth of the one name of salvation, YAHSHUA, they will hold to the name Jesus and Jehovah, despite never having been revealed by the LORD. Many will reject the name YAHSHUA leaving only a few, and being of the many despite the admonishment: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). The name Jesus was never revealed by the LORD, or an angel of the Lord, and history proves this, as eminent historian Ernest Renan acknowledged that the Savior was never in His lifetime called “Jesus” (The Life of Jesus, p. 90). I think you need to do some research based on recent ancient manuscripts now digitised and put online , such as the Allepo Codex, and the Royal MS 16 A II available online at the British museum which have the tetragrammaton with the VOWEL POINTS, the vowel points being the "Sheva, the Cholem & the Kamatz.
There is also a clue in the names of people in the Bible whose names were made up in part from the names of their gods, referred to as THEOPHORIC NAMES IN THE BIBLE,,,,,,theophoric names are names derived from a god. For example:

By the way in teh 15th centrury when the first English Bible was translated the "J" was pronounced with the "Y" sound, that is why the Jah in hallalujah is pronounced with a "yah" sound.

Look in your many dictionaries, that blaspheme Gods name by not giving it proper respect, and their definitions to those names and they all say “Lord“ this or that.
