      @@cindipage9100 in Canada, life in prison means 25 years. Hence, we have double life: 50 years.

      Sarah Boone and Ashley Benefield both deserve life sentences. Boone had -0- defense because she recorded her crime. Ashley had a better attorney who managed to convince the jury (by LYING) that she was actually battered. I honestly don't know what that jury was thinking. It was so obvious Ashley and her attorney are liars. I feel bad for Doug's family. 20 years is not justice for a first degree murder.

    It sounds that Judge has considered defense’s domestic abuse argument. 20 years in prison and 10 years probation.
    There are two generations of manipulation in my humble opinion, starting with her mother. Now that she’s in prison and father is deceased, her mother will groom her daughter into another manipulator.
    I believe Judge took away the developmental years of her daughter, so she won’t be part of the cycle. With the grandmother, I believe the granddaughter will not stand a chance. Unless, she realises why her mother is in prison.

    I was so angry with the defense attorney gaslighting!!! Husband had no weapon but yet lunged so she shot him? She made a choice to shoot a weapon. If she felt threatened she should have left. I don't believe there was previous history of him and domestic violence...any real proof there was? If I was the victim's daughter I would be so full of hatred for the defense attorney and his statement. Also defense attorney objecting to the daughters victim impact statement. Ashley was already sentenced, the daughter had a right to voice her statement.

    I didn't like her presentation on the stand (a little over the top for me) but I don't think that Doug was a great guy either.. That was enough for me to see the egotistical Narc his loved ones are unwilling to see..

    • @Truth17John17
      @Truth17John17 10 часов назад

      That isn't fair. When an older man loses a beloved spouse after many years and he is really hurting, he is in a weakened emotional state and extremely vulnerable. Along comes some manipulative b****, and the next thing you know, the man has found a band-aid for his pain. This scenario happens to MANY, many older widowers (and widows!) who fall victim to evil people. it happened to my own father and countless others. Doug was not alone in remarrying quickly and stupidly after a solid marriage of many years. The woman who got her hooks in my father had him sell our childhood home, spent all of his cash on exotic travel, and when the money was gone, she left him with nothing. This happens all the time. You are being way too hard on Doug. He fell victim to a very cunning, manipulative liar who deserves life, not a measly 20 years.

Let me be clear that I do not condone murder, I do however understand what can happen to a person who has been suffering from years of abuse and no one - not even a child, brother, mother…knows really what goes on behind closed doors.
