  • I took a walk down Sukhumvit Soi 8, Bangkok. I began at the end of the street. This area is really mellow compared to the section near the BTS Nana area.

I've spent a decent amount of time on Soi 8 and Velvet, Lyf, and Sound Pop Coffee are definitely places I recommend. Velvet has really nice cocktails with a crazy vibe. Lyf offers decent weekly rates but also is a good place to eat pizza and drink beers on the outside patio area. Sound Pop Coffee has a really nice setup and they have reasonably priced light roasts if you're a coffee enthusiast.

Thanks for that, trip down memory lane for me. Always stay at the Crown, early morning coffee at Tipsy Tap, and lunch/supper at Det5. Wouldn't mind a coupla weeks there now.

Great to see a walkthrough of Soi 8, it has been my go to street in Bangkok for many years. Love the vibe there, great restaurants and plenty of accommodations! Will be staying there again in a month or so.

Thanks for the videos EE, I lived in BKK for 5 years about 10 years ago and in those days you could easily drive across the bridge at the end of Soi 10 and into the Thai Tobacco Monopoly - I even taught my eldest daughter to drive using the Tobacco Monopoly roads as it was always super quiet and perfect for learning to drive! cheers

Kiwi Pub used to be where the Lyf hotel is now until I think 2018 and then moved to where Velvet is....such a shame it closed over CV19...great pub for sports especially Rugby Union, great memories . Great vlog, thanks for all the walkabouts and sights. Lost Aussie pub looks a good addition.

Even after all these years Soi 8 has managed to keep some of his old charm. I recall back in the day you could sit at Viva (known as viva monsoon back then ) and feed the elephants from your table as they strolled around during the evening. 😂

Interesting video, I think you are right that the building with the tuk tuk in front of it at the end of soi 8 used to be the Royal Asia Paradis and Lodge hotel, I have stayed there a few times in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Plan to stay at La Petit Solil in January. Have stayed at same name hotel on Soi 11 and will be staying there in March.
First time staying in the Soi8/11 area was at the Adelphi Suites - nice but pricey compared to many other hotels in the area, good restaurant.

I think that building on the side soi off of 8 before the church gate is an ice house, and the supplies are for maintaining customers' machinery... interesting mix of industrial use in a residential neighborhood, popped up about 5 years ago on a previously empty lot. $$$$?

I believe the Lyf hotel should be pronounced "life". Speaking of, The Kiwi was located exactly where Lyf is right now. You can check on Google Maps street view and click back pre 2018 to see when it was still there. The earliest street view is from 2011 when it was called "Soi 8 Pub & Restaurant". Happy Hour price for a Singha was apparently 65 B. :)
