    You're right about Cellini. They seem to be universally despised. But I liked it! Unbelievable bargain and it is loved by an audience of one (me).

    I just bought an 18K Movado watch from the 60s that if I try to sell, I know I'll probably take a bath, but it wasn't overly expensive and it's very clean and was sold by a reputable dealer whom I have experience with.
    The only thing that matters to me is that I like it.
    I'll leave my heirs to worry about resale value.

    Hi there...just like to say that the beginning was great and the overall production quality seems to have improved a lot.
    Glad to hear someone who isn’t just complimenting Rolex.Because of Steve McQueens Rolex everyone assumes vintage pieces are valuable.Great to see you warning people about this type of watch.
    Great subject,interesting and useful content in a well presented package.
    Sound ,down to earth advice from someone who’s there.Keep up the excellent work.

    I know some mob guys who would wear the hell out of that gold Rolex Cellini. You are lumping everyone in a box that should not be lumping. I can't stand modern Rolex because it looks all the same. The vintage watches you are showing look great and i would be proud to have them in my collection. I am not a solid gold all over kind of watch guy more of a two tone stainless and gold trim kind of guy but still would be great to own just for the gold content.

    Hi Fernando.Another good informative video on the Rolex market.Its always nice to get others opinion on what's hot & what's not & only from a knowledgeable source such as yourself..It really would be very helpful & interesting if you could do more videos like this one on other makes & model's..I'm sure many others who watch would be interested in knowing this also?? Keep up the great work you provide & hope to hear from you!!!

    The reason no one wants these old Rolexes is because no one promotes them. No one takes the time to do the history on them. That first Rolex you showed would make a great mens dress watch. Rolex fan boys push the GMT and so on and that is why those watches are so popular with today's buyers.If I had the money to buy these vintage Rolex pieces I would promote the hell out of them as dress watches but no one will do that because most watch channels are run by people who sell used watches and they will not promote what they can not sell for but hurt loads of money. And you can't say no one because I am someone who would buy that first one if I had the money and lifestyle toi do so.

  • @EverDayBest
    @EverDayBest 6 лет назад +6

    I agree that the gold dress watches have a much smaller market than oyster models and sell at lower prices however they are also less common and have a pretty liquid market. They are more desirable in Europe than America; Americans seem to be less fond of traditional dress watches.

    • @todorelojconfernando
      @todorelojconfernando  6 лет назад

      I sell a lot to Europe and I have no intrest there either in those models

    • @EverDayBest
      @EverDayBest 6 лет назад

      Fair enough, it really depends on the watch. The type of watch I'm referring to is too specific. I like the 1940's - 1950's 34mm-36mm dress models with an appealing dial, not the Cellini or any generic-looking 60's-70's watches. But yeah, most of the planet wants a Datejust or a Submariner.

    Guess I'm kidding myself. Like all art, buy it if you like it. If you don't, then don't buy it regardless of what anyone says. Tastes change.

    When you buy a brand new hypertech Mercedes car, you’re going to loose money. But if you like that car, you want drive it and you spend money. :-)
    What is wrong in your argument is the assumption: if you buy a Rolex you want to keep the value. No, this is wrong, sorry! If you buy, trade and sell that is ok because you want a profit. But if you are a collector or a private person you may want a Bubbleback or a Marconi (not just a Decó watch…) because you like it and you want it, no matter the price or the future value.

    Please, don't scrap high horology watches for scrap value. If you own a nice vintage watch, you´re a custodian. If you don't really, really need the money right now, that watch will be a collectable one day. Those are the kind of watches I definitely would buy, as an investment. Rolex-Tanks, Art deco-pieces and Cellinis will increase in price as smaller watchsizes gain popularity...

  • @MrOstefar
    @MrOstefar 5 лет назад

    Thanks for a good, informative and down to earth video. I did not know that any Rolex models were that undesirable. It is sad when one has to scrap a mechanical (or rather any) watch for the gold value (I must say that I have done it myself, albeit only "noname"/standard ladies watches) but understandable when that value equals, and maybe even exceeds the value of the watch as a whole. Lastly, I love the sign on the wall behind you.

    I want ArtDeco Rolex unfortunately prices are eather stupid or low for a thrashed watch, lots of them have repainted dials and "Rolex" stamped on the movement in a completely different font than the rest of the writings so they are fakes.
